Android Tv Box Flexiview FV-1

WDTV,Logitech is building up to new units doing the same as these units i heard today from gadget geek.

After upgrading to the latest Firmware update from here (this page) the unit runs smoother and plays my videos good but would still rather play them on my WDTV Live setup.

Also this is also new ....

DOES anyone know where a suitable firmware is located for this device?

Hi,

from what I have been reading - this device seems similar to what I was seeking without spending the huge amount on the apple thingy. It also looks really good and I would love to go and buy this in a week or two.

I have a few simple question's, that hopefully someone here can answer. I stream a lot of TV shows, movies and sports from over the internet. Will I be able to go to my favourite site and continue to watch my football, basketball etc..without any issues as I do currently on my laptop? Or will I need an Android app to view?

Secondly what about watching download shows. On my current lappy I use VLC to watch basically most video formats - is there a standard format for this box or again will I have to find and download a suitable app?

Last question is this. As this is operating on Android 2.3 and Android 3.0 is available can I upgrade or is it better to wait for a version 3.0 TV box to come out?

Many thanks, and apologies for the long winded questions, but the answers will really help me

@tspoonfr

1) Yes, you'll be able to continue the streaming. The dolphin browser works fine as any PC browser like chrome, firefox, etc. and flash works so the streaming will be fine. Maybe you'll need to download the doplhin browser app, IMHO the best

2) DICE Player app. You'll be able to watch *almost every* format. Also, if I remember well, VLC is being developed for Android

3) I don't think the upgrate to 3.0 will be possible. I think they are too different, and maybe 3.0 needs lot more hardware, gfx processor (which the FV-1 lacks), etc.

Finally, each month a new firmware upgrade goes out which (usually) improves playing quality/smoothness, adds new features, improves speed, etc. but I don't think we'll see a 3.0 upgrade firmware for this, unless something unofficial is released elsewhere

Well you are right KAbeza new firmware is uploaded on the ftp right now.

Downloading from this ftp is takes me 15 years back make me remember the dialup internet connection days.

Any how completed the download in more than an hour . the file looks same but date 21st oct 2011.last file was 10 0ct 2011 though didnt upgrade to the box, Well ftp is down now lets see after few hours and will upgrade tommorrow

Hi again all,

I have tried every trick under the sun, and still I can not get the FV-1 to connect to Ad Hoc wifi networks. :(

I am using an iPhone 3GS with MyWi for the AdHoc connection.

I have performed the ad hoc "hacks" on many other Android devices in the past, and have never had any trouble, but the FV-1 is different.

I have tried all of the wpa_supplicant.conf edits (ap_scan=2, mode=1, etc) and none of them work. In fact, ap_scan=2 appears to break wifi totally (it can not start) until this line is removed.

The ZT-180 app, and a few others I found also do not work (they modify the wpa_supplicant.conf file the same as I do manually, and wifi breaks, and then wont start)...

I have also tried replacing the actual "wpa_supplicant" file (not the .conf file) with some modified versions for ad hoc support, and still these dont work (wifi breaks and wont start).

The FV-1 appears to use the Texas Instruments chipset, and the tiwlan.ini file. HOWEVER, the tiwlan.ini file is not located in the usual directory (It is elsewhere - I cant remember now, but I can check if anyone would like to know). I have edited the tiwlan.ini file to include ad hoc support, but this appears to make no difference at all (doesn't break the wifi, but still does not detect ad hoc.)

For the record, I have been using the "Root Explorer" app with the 'Text Editor' function to perform all changes to files (not using adb).

Can anyone help out with this? Any ideas or suggestions? I just cant work out why the FV-1 wifi is so different to other Android devices I have used. :confused: I need AdHoc support on the Flexiview FV-1!

I think I need an Android guru! PLEASE HELP!

the file looks same but date 21st oct 2011.last file was 10 0ct 2011

This is interesting. Is this another NEW firmware for October? :eek:

I have downloaded it, and it is labelled: U110781_1110211_HW.osk

I have not updated to this firmware as yet. Has anyone here tested/reviewed this 'new' firmware version?

I have just installed this "update", and have found that it is EXACTLY the same as the earlier OCTOBER firmware.

If you are already running an October firmware DO NOT UPDATE to this "new" Firmware, as it is exactly the same! It will be a huge waste of your time!

The system information screen shows exactly the same information for both October firmwares.

Yeah I know - we were writing our replies at the same time!

Also, I used "My Backup Root" app to restore my apps after loading this firmware. Works well and saves lots of time! (The only things I had to do was set my Widgets again, set LCD Density, root with z4root (app came back but needed to run it to perform "root" on the fresh firmware) and re-add my email addresses in the Hotmail and Gmail apps.) Everything else came back exactly as it was before I started - including app data. :)

You are absolutely right. BTW did you happen to install and work torrent app successfully.

I played with my new FV-1 and it works great but I still some issues :

- I am french so I am using an AZERTY keyboard. When I change the language to French in the settings, the Android keyboard changes to AZERTY : it's OK. But when I plug an USB keyboard, it is recognized as QWERTY. Do you know if there is a way to change the physical keyboard layout to fix this ?

- I'm using the android box to remotely control my PC using VNC. It works but the right button, and the scrolling wheel of the USB mouse are not recognized. Do you know if there is a way to use them ?

Hi!
I am currently running 2.6.32.9 M1100160.K11019300 #2
R11018180-S11018180 FRF91.

Can anyone confirm that this is the latest release?

Thank for your help

An AZERTY one.

Did you change the keyboard language to french ?
Of course but it don't work.

I tried but even if the keyboard is set to AZERTY, it seems that the layout is stuck to QWERTY.
I found some informations about remapping the keyboard for other Android devices (ie. Galaxy 551), it's based on the modifications of files in ./system/usr/keylayout and ./system/usr/keychars. I am not so confident to change these files without any expertise.

Did someone find a solution to this problem ?

Hi all,

If you are using a wireless keyboard/mouse with the FV-1, then here is a mod that I find very useful.

You need root to do this, and an app like "Root Explorer", which will have this modification done in under 1 minute! It's EASY!

Firstly, if you are using a wireless keyboard and mouse, you may have noticed that the "popup" system keyboard gets in the way, and makes typing into things like webpage search fields, username and password fields. etc very very frustrating.

The fix for this, is to rename the default system keyboard app "LatinIME.apk", to something else, such as "LatinIME.apkxxx" which will completely disable it from interfering or popping up, and makes the FV-1 a pleasure to use!

Navigate to /system/app/LatinIME.apk and rename the file. That's it!

If you ever wish to restore the on-screen keyboard, then rename it back to "LatinIME.apk". Easy!

Also, I have found that pushing the "F4" button on the keyboard has the same effect as the power button on the FV-1 remote control. My FV-1 remote now lives in the draw - never to be used again! I don't need it! :D

When using an external Keyboard, the following keys are very useful on the FV-1:

F1 = Menu
F2 = Search
F3 = HOME
F4 = Power ON / OFF
F5 = Volume DOWN
F6 = Volume UP
ESC = Back
HOME = HOME

I hope that helps!

Nice tip! Thanks.
