Root Any thoughts?

I'm rooting a co-worker's Evo and have come across something I never have before. Used Unrevoked, that went well and said it was successful, but I noticed his Evo didn't have the "superuser" app. Rebooted to hboot, has "S-OFF" but didn't have a custom recovery, no problem, fixed that and flashed CW 2.6. Everything went fine and now my co-worker has recovery, still no "superuser".

When I try to use root only apps on his phone, they're all denied, thought it was only a permissions issue that had to do w/ the "superuser" app so I downloaded it to see if that would fix it but still no dice. Downloaded terminal emulator and got confirmation that I apparently do not have root. Have "S-OFF", have recovery, but still not rooted. I won't be able to mess w/ his Evo until later on today but I'm thinking I need to flash Unrevoked Forever. Any ideas?

Hmmmmm..... that is odd....

bump to put on the top of the list so someone else could give a good answer :)

Similar to what happened to me. I had root access to the phone (S-Off) but not to the rom, and no recovery. I just did a nandroid after flashing a recovery, then flashed a rooted rom, done and done. I was told to just re-run unrevoked if I wanted the stock rom rooted, which I didn't care about, so I just flashed an already rooted rom instead.

Hope this helps!

yep. solution is to flash a rooted stock rom. that rom will come with superuser.apk in /system/app and the su binary in /system/bin (or /xbin).

have you tried to install busybox?

I don't think unrevoked gives you superuser or busy box. not sure on superuser but I know it didn't come with busybox when I rooted my wifes phone.

Sounds like some of the things we have seen with Unrevoked not getting all three steps done. Once in a while it would fail to flash recovery, other times fail to root the rom but it always seems to get s-off so the rest is fixable.
