I re-downloaded and re-installed the newly-named app (Android Master App) (there are still references to Eris Master App though :D) and it looks like you have eight choices:

* Senseable 3.1
* Evil Eris 2.0
* Eris Official 1.0
* Ice Rom
* Kaos Legendary
* Cyanogen Light Bolt
* VanillaDroid
* Aloysius Snow

There you go! Enjoy.

Yep...about a third of the way down, there's a section that looks like this:

Prereq's for using the application:

You must have Microsoft .NET version 4.

Then also download the drivers file. Unzip it to your desktop.

Select have disc, then navigate to your desktop, inside the corresponding folder, and continue the prompts.

Yes, but you might want to read through some of the other stickied threads in the all-things-root-eris section, especially, the http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-eris/53963-guide-stock-1-5-latest-root-2-1-a.html thread (this is the manual way of doing what the EMA is doing for you; when/if you want to install EE3, you would run step III in this thread (substituting your the EE3 ROM filename for the one actually referenced)).

You probably can make EMA use a specifically-named ROM, but I don't know exactly how you would "trick" him into doing so. Maybe Eclips3 will respond re. this? :D

xketchupx, by the way, I just now noticed your avatar's info says "2.1 v3"...are you running a 2.1 (v3) leak? i.e., is this still current/accurate? (if so, you won't be able to us this root method)...just wanting to make sure so you didn't spend too much time and be disappointed...

yes i have the v3 leak, however,
i will be heading to verizon today for a replacement, its not a big store and people in my area dont have many android devices, so theres a decent chance i can get a hboot 1.47, (2 friends of mine recently got eris's and had 1.47) from that store, so i hope i can get lucky, and if not, ill trade a friend ;)
 
Tried using the master app and did step 2 did the update then followed instructions got to step three and it kept saying cannot find device and usb debugging was on. Need help completing process.

So, you successfully completed steps #1 (downloading the base root ROM) and step #2 (installing the base root ROM on your phone)? If you have, congrats, your phone is now rooted, albeit with an old version of 2.1.

By the way, you would have needed good USB connectivity for the app to have copied the base root ROM to your phone, so you need to make sure its left in at all times (per the apps instructions).

Are you using Windows XP? (the app isn't always successful with this version of Windows).

If you are still having USB connectivity issues, try reading through the relevant tips in this thread:

Hopefully, you can verify that you have good connectivity with your phone and this app.
 
Thnx im on win xp. I followed instructions did the update, then it said don't start setup. Went to step 3 for recovery and it said cannot find device check usb debugging which was on but still wouldnt connect. So i had to run setup or id be without a phone. Im now on hboot 1.49.200. Can i find a win vista computer and rerun setup and continue with step 3?

Well, if you are on HBOOT 1.49.2000, congrats, you have root! :)

You can try Vista...that what I actually used and had the same problems you are/were having on XP, but this was the early-May version of the app.

I actually ended-up finishing installing Amon_RA's custom recovery manually using the http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-eris/53963-guide-stock-1-5-latest-root-2-1-a.html (i.e., the relevant steps, not the whole guide).

If I were you, I would verify that you can "talk" to your phone (via "adb devices" or "adb shell") and then either method (EMA or manually) should work for you. Check out the debugging guide I referenced before (http://androidforums.com/all-things...oot-troubleshooting-guide-htc-droid-eris.html) and see if you can get USB connectivity worked-out.

You are really close to being able to flash your desired custom ROM...its just the USB issue that seems to be an obstacle to most folks. Try some things and let us know. Thanks.
 
Hello again! Since I'm a glutton for punishment I figured I'd try out the root thing one more time.

Seeing that the master application is back gives me new hope. Although I do have a question. Does the master app circumvent the need for SDK? My computer is just being very insolent and doesn't seem to want to play well with it at all no mater where I try to dl it from. It's technically my girlfriend's computer so I cant really complain too much and don't feel right taking liberties changing too many settings around.

Also, I'd heard that the Evo was rootable in like 3 clicks. Any possibility of this process being applied to other phones? (The Eris in particular.)

Couldn't the SDK just be hosted from a server on a website and then all you need to do is run the commands from your pc? I don't really plan on developing software so getting around frustrating (I get frustrated easily) issue would be a relief.

Well, the app itself looks like its has a small set of the files taken from the Android SDK (like adb.exe and the .dll libraries its needs), so yes and no :). You don't have to install the SDK, but it installs the SDK parts that it needs automagically.

I haven't had time to read-up on the Evo root method...
 
Of course I'm stuck at work so I'll have to give the master application a shot at being my best friend candidate once I get home.

I forget where I'd heard about that Evo root thing (possibly phonearena)... but the screenshot made it look so simple even I couldn't mess it up. Pretty much a box with 3 buttons: Do you want root? Do you want NAND backup? Do you want a custom ROM?
