Ask Verizon Rep Questions Here...

I'm due for upgrade in July. I was wondering if Verizon was going to get the SGS2 or Function as I've heard it called? Thank you!

Anyone can answer this question as I am sure you are all well informed... if I were to get an Android tablet I need to get a data plan? Can I tether my phone to it? If I add it to my account do I have unlimited data or is that just grandfathered to old lines? I have been thinking about a tablet but not for a month or two.

Thank you

That is basically what I asked earlier and he said that I probably need to keep my smartphone if I want to keep unlimited data.

Hehatesme, Glad to see you are back let alone the fact that you are here at all. Good to see someone who can help us through the fog of corporate Verizon. I hope you don't get too overwhelmed by people here lol. I'm sure doing this all day as your job then coming here and having a nice giant list of people isn't always going to be your idea of fun, so I just want you to know you are appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I have a good question too. Verizon is making a change to their "Regulatory Recovery Fee" Which opens everyone on Verizon to cancel their account free of hassle. (Stop me at any point by the way if something I said is incorrect)

"Verizon Wireless has announced they are unilaterally changing your wireless contract with an increase in the Regulatory Recovery Fee (a bill-padding junk fee) from $0.13 to $0.16 effective July 1st. That fee opens a 60-day window for customers to exit their contracts because the carrier is imposing a

Based on that, we are letting every customer know that they will still have an ETF applied despite what they say is legal or what they read on the internet. We are told to credit .03 per month per line to upset customers.

I wouldn't want to use this to get out of my contract anyway but you know the lawsuits and FTC inquiry are going to happen soon enough. Verizon is going to have to prove why this increase is needed, just sayin...

I have four lines on my plan. Two are under contract still and two are not. Do you think if I were to call and nicely object to the increase they would credit all four lines or just the two still under contract?

They would credit the two that are under contract. It's .72 a year for the two lines... is it worth your time to have to call in for that?

Is it worth Verizon's time to increase it and deal with the backlash?

The Verizon customer agreement was changed on the first of May; before that, the following clause would allow you to get out of a contract without paying a termination fee if any government taxes or charges increased:

If you're a Postpay customer and a change to your Plan or this agreement has a material adverse effect on you, you can cancel the line of Service that has been affected within 60 days of receiving the notice with no early termination fee.

In fact, I believe that you can still argue that the changes are materially adverse to you if you throw in other non-tax charges that Verizon isn't required to pass on to the customer such as the Federal Service Charge.

It's a fee that's going to make Verizon millions while still cutting services to the end customer such as unlimited data and the new every two program, so I would have to say .72 cents is worth a phone call. You know Verizon is hoping it won't be to most customers, millions of dollars in revenue for nothing in return are riding on it.

HeHatesMe, this is a ask a Verizon rep anything thread so how much money will Verizon make a year as a result of this increase and what will the customer be getting in return they would not have gotten if this fee were not instituted?

Oh, no. I absolutely agree with you, I'm a consumer too. It is a tactic that will make them millions, HOWEVER... I disagree with consumers who are using it as a loophole to exit a contract and sign right back up with Verizon. I think that is petty.

If you are dissatisfied with the service, etc... then I could see making an arguement over the .03. Or, if you are calling in and you intentions are to get your .03 back, then sure... It's based on principle.

HeHatesMe,

I'd like to get my daughter (no phone currently) locked-in to unlimited data so I'm going to start a new line of service for her. I have three lines currently that are on the Talk and Text Plus Data promotion from earlier this year (link below). Is there any way I can get the new line for my daughter onto this same promotion?

I plan to call today but have some other commitments. Will the customer service lines be open tomorrow?

I'm assuming that my contract start date will be the day I place the order thus locking me into unlimited. Factoring in shipment time I won't be activating the phone until after the move to tiered.

Thanks

As long as you sign up before the 7th and they activate the line with Unlimited data, you're set. That is, that's what the Verizon representative in the store told me when I signed up two Droid Charges.

I could see that the eyes of the representative in the store lit up when I said that we were getting two Droid Charges. I figure he was going "Cha-Ching" in his head because of the commission.

Yes, you should be just fine. They will have offices open tomorrow, but it shouldn't be a rush... The Talk Text Data promo ($10 discount) has been extended until the end of July, so just call to have them add it.

trparky-

I'm assuming this is in response to me. I know I'm good with unlimited if set-up before the 7th. The questions in my original post are specific to:

- My ability to get the new line onto the promotion that my existing three lines are on.
- Whether or not I can place an order over the phone tomorrow given the holiday.
- Am I locked into unlimited based on order date (which I'm assuming is contract date) or based on activation date.

Thanks

Ultimately, it won't be Verizon who deals with the backlash. It will be Verizon's customer service reps.. who again, are given a script and procedures to follow.

This isn't about me agreeing or disagreeing with Verizon, because my opinion is moot. I'm simply letting you guys know what to expect prior to calling in and what has been communicated to Verizon employees.

In the end, this will lead the customer to small claims court if they want to proceed. We, along with any supervisors, are unable to waive those fees. Even if we did, it would be audited by another team and reversed. Again, if .03 is worth your time, then by all means call in and get your money, I'm not against that. I'm simply trying to save your time and energy from being expended by thinking we can waive this fee.

Thanks for the reply. I believe the promo you are referring to is a 12 month $10 credit. The data promo I'm on was from earlier this year and is a $20 credit for each line that I'm told never expires. The promo expired in February but since I have three lines already on it I'm wondering if I can add another. Any way I can do that?

When you mention the offices being open tomorrow that is for phone orders and brick and mortar locations?

Thanks

Unfortunately, because the original TTD promo has expired there is no way to get that one on the new line. I recommend still asking for the later promo though.

I believe telesales will be open tomorrow... but I don't think the stores will.

Thanks for the quick replies. Two final questions:

- Any comment on the order date vs. activation date as it relates to locking in to unlimited data? Since I'm ordering over the the phone and possibly activating after the 7th I don't want any problems.

- I've read about the option of suspending an account for 3 months. This new line is for my daughter but I'm ready to give it to her for a couple of months. If I suspend the line will that effect reflect as a change in my contract and result in the loss of unlimited.

Thanks again.

Any news on the SGS2 yet?

Nothing yet. We usually don't know about phone releases until about a week in advance. Sorry.

No sweat.

If it's a new line entirely, it SHOULD go from your order date. However, if it's an upgrade it would go from the date the device is activated.

Also, you can suspend your line for 90 days, sure. It will extend your contract for an additional 90 days, since you will not be making a payment.. but it will have zero effect on the tiered data.

Woh.... Do I understand this correctly? I have 3 lines, fam plan... I can get a talk, text, data plan for 139.99+19.99? No way. If that is correct (I called, they are closed today), can I up the minutes to 2000 for 10 bucks or whatever?

Thanks in advance!

This promotion expired in late January or early February. It's a great deal. I have 3 lines with unlimited data, unlimited texts, and 1400 shared minutes. After taxes and my corporate discount my bill is about $160.

Since I already have three lines on this I'm trying to add another but I'm not holding my breath. I should have went ahead and added the fourth line when I got the original three.

Word is there is a new promo going on that give you $10 off per month for 12 months. Not as good as the $20 off but better than nothing.

I would like to start off by thanking you for your willingness to answer questions, it is truly appreciated.

Last Wednesday, I signed up for a new line of service by calling the 1800 number. The rep I spoke with told me he could waive my $35 activation fee, give me a $50 credit for the thunderbolt (I still paid the 250 + tax upfront) and an additional $30 credit to help cover some of my ($200) ETF for leaving my current contract.

The rep told me that the credits would not appear until my second or third bill and that my first bill would have an activation charge on it but the fee would be removed by the second bill and that I should not pay the $35 on my first bill. He said he was noting all of this on my account. He did also ask that I send him a screen shot of the thunderbolt

Hey HHMe, I think it's really nice of you to help out here. Thanks. (There's not alot of people who would "sign up" to do more for free of what they get paid on their real job for.)

And I don't really need anything right now unless you can wave your magic wand and dewonkify my DX's Gingerblech. (Yeah, I know about the alleged upcoming fix.)

If you get any small grief here on this list, or have a particularly crappy customer, remember this, it could be worse, you could have Matt's job over on the Motorola DX Support forum. (He's one of the M reps there.) They pretty well beat on him 24/7 over there.

Have a nice day!
