Ask Verizon Rep Questions Here...

Sorry ladies and gentlemen.. I will no longer be able to answer further questions. Apparently, some member(s) don't like the unbiased, unfiltered opinions that I give as I was reported to moderators.

It's a shame since I believe my post was taken out of context. Jamor, my apologies if I've offended you. I wasn't intending to call you cheap as much as I was showing that the question "Why is Verizon so expensive?" is very subjective.

That being said, people on this site are viewing me as a VZW Customer Service rep while I'm here and I never intended for that. I actually find that a bit funny as I am exactly what a Customer Service rep would NOT do.. by giving you behind the scenes info. I am not being paid for this, am doing this on my own time.. therefore, I didn't realize I was under such scrutiny.

It is our good fortune to have a Verizon Rep help us out personally. Therefore, I am re-opening this thread with limits and boundaries in order to keep it productive, positive, informative and fun.

I for one am appreciative for all the help you have provided. Now for my problem, I have been with Ver for 8 or 10 years and have never had a problem with them other than having a weak signal at my house. If I complain about that would they maybe give me a phone extender or whatever they are called. Some where I heard or read that att would do that.

When I got this XOOM, I deactivated my R2D2 D2 and reactivated my LG EnV Touch to save on data. I've suspended my data plan because 3g sucks for a tablet, but I think I might want to get back in on this unlimited data deal. After July 7, you do have a $30 plan for feature phones. Can I get an unlimited 3g plan for my LG now and at some point in the future transfer that unlimited 3g plan to a smart phone in the future since VZW would be getting the same amount of money from me regardless?

The only reason I don't reactivate my Droid2 is that I've gotten spoiled by my phone acting like an actual phone and not a temperamental little diva as the smartphones are prone to do.

I have a question about the new tiered data plans. I was going to buy a new Thunderbolt and lock myself into unlimited 4G data, but I want to add my gf onto the plan later. She doesn't care about smartphones so she won't need a data plan. My question is will adding her on later force me into a tiered plan? The documents weren't very specific on that, if it was for the original contract or just the new line.

oh man, THIS HAS BEEN ANSWERED HERE ALREADY, anyway, its per-line not per-plan, for example. im on a family plan with 3 lines. i am the only with with a smart phone and unlimited data, i will forever have unlimited data with this line but the other wont unless doing so before the 7-7, so you would need it for that specific line before the cut off.

My thing is I'd have to switch from an individual plan to a family plan. That would change my contract, but I'm wondering if the unlimited data plan will be carried over in that case.

Hello HeHatesME, First off thanks a ton, Ive got a question. i have an LG ally, bargain android phone, for everything it was built to do it does it well, Ive recently run into some issues and have gone trough 3 replacements in the past 2 weeks, i help onto my original one as long as possible because Ive had this problem with refurbished phones before. my contract isn't up until the November after next (about a year and a half).

do i have any options to get a different phone? or am i stuck with refurbished ones til i hopefully can land a good one.

your line would still have unlimited data, i think. i doubt they will un-grandfather you for adding a line.

Just curious as I have never heard of a loyalty rep, and your not posting any personal info but yet there is some personal VZW info being posted

It's called different things, I suppose. Center of Excellence, Retention, Loyalty... all of the above.

I've currently got 3 lines on an old Alltel plan (don't plan on EVER changing either!). One line is in the possession of a teenage girl and contains an Alltel unlimited texting add-on. She wants a smartphone and I told her she could get an iPhone with her next upgrade next May. However, it seems risky to turn a teenage girl loose with an iPhone and only 2g's of data. With her being so far out from her last NE2, what strategy should I use to try and get an early upgrade on her phone to some sort smartphone (realizing the iPhone is off limits in this situation) now to lock her into unlimited data? Would I be better off buying a used phone and activating it on unlimited data? Thanks!

I think you would be better off buying a used Smartphone to be honest. They have used Palm Pixis on ebay for $45... that'll get you the unlimited date and Palm includes 5GB of free Mobile Hotspot. Not too bad.

I've been trying to check my upgrade eligibility through Amazon Wireless, using my phone number, last 4 digits of SSN, and the billing password, but it doesn't work. Is it just me, or does VZW not provide upgrade eligibility info to Amazon at all?

To be honest, I'm not sure. Why not just check at VerizonWirless.com?

Hi Hehatesme. Coming to Verizon as a new customer from kajeet with a basic phone. I want to sign 2 year prior to 7/7 for talk/text/unlimited 4g. Good 4g area, Tampa. Probably get a droid charge.

If I root and get pdanet can verizon tell if I tether to work cpu? If I get free motspot via android apps can they tell that I am using that instead of pdanet for my 50-100 web pages, and 5-10 emails per day. Currently on a slower 1.8 meg dsl service. I could cancel that service and save $36/month.

My home internet is the same slower 1.8 meg service. I cant stream hd quality on netflix. If I used charge hotspot at home for only hd streaming, 1.5-2.0 gigs per hour, this would be about 20-30 gigs per month. Will verizon allow that? Will they throttle speed after a certain number of gigs used? Can they tell I am using hotspot through root and apps? Have you heard of people considering using your faster 4g speeds and cancelling their slower work and/or home internet connections?

Thanks in advance. Trying to see what my options are before 7/7. Its nice to have an "expert" to give advice. Thanks, Tim.

Hey Tim! No need to root for PDANet... however, I would highly suggest against using tethering or Hotspot for your primary source of internet if you suspect you'll be using anywhere near that data. That's A LOT!

As far as I know, VZW does not throttle back your speeds, but I believe they would investigate your account further with that much usage. It's insanely difficult to use that much data on the phone alone, red flags would be raised.

I hear you... that's unfortunate. Being completely honest with you, there is zero chance Verizon gives you a free Network Extender. They sell them for $250... in fact, I had the same issue with a customer this past week. I feel for you and wish there were something (anything) I, or a sup, could do. But our hands are tied on that on, bud.

I don't think so. That was my first thought when the tiered data was announced, but through the week and after trainings it does not look like that will work. Reason being, the Feature Phone data is a different SKU than the Smartphone Data in the system. When you make a switch from Feature to Smart, the original SKU falls off the account and the new SKU replaces it. Even though 3G and 4G are different, they still use the same SKU in our system, so you would be okay.

KingofGreen is correct. Even if you change from a single plan to family, your line on the acct remains the same. You should be just fine, sir.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with the FRU devices. Verizon informs their reps that those devices go through 100 point inspections before being shipped out, but with sooo many people having issues with them, I find that hard to believe.

Anyhow, you wouldn't have too hard of a time getting a different model of phone after your issues, but it would still be a FRU device. See if you can talk a loyalty rep into giving you a Droid X since it's an older model now. We aren't suppose to give you a different model... if we have to it should be comparible to the one you purchased... however, when someone calls me and I KNOW they aren't just BSing... I usually try to get them the nicest phone I can.

There is a tiny, tiny chance that you would be able to upgrade to another phone now though. Depends on your acct, the rep, the supervisor... and if everyone involved is having a good day.

Glad to have you back HeHatesMe, thank you for your help. My question is about my plan. I have what I believe was called a "steamroller" plan by the bring back rep I talked with when coming back to Verizon. Currently I have two smart phones and one dumb phone and am getting a $20 data discounts per line on the smart phones with the smart phone talks for free on the second. If I go ahead and bring my son up on an old BB would I still get the data discount? Don't get me wrong I am not complaining I like my plan and service just curious.

Not really. If you run the Netflix app and watch movies on the phone, you can run through a lot of data. If you have a phone like Droid X/Droid X2 that has a HDMI output, you could connect it up to the TV and watch on a full size screen while still running on the phone.

Ofcourse, I have not done that myself so there may be a catch that I am not aware of.

There are also websites that stream live TV (CNN, CNBC....) in a browser and letting them go for 8 hours a day can also add up. I have run those websites, though not for 8 hours a day, and they do work.

HeHatesMe, Thanks for coming back!

Have you heard any updates on the 3G to 4G after June 7th?

I have an incredible now and am eligible for an upgrade. If I wait till later, (August maybe) and get a 4G phone, would that trigger the tiered data? I know this has been asked before, I just thought VZW might have talked to employees about it since it launches in 11 days.

Thanks!

I saw on another thread where a Verizon employee showed a customer their system screen that 3G data and 4G are different codes and that they were trying to tell him that if you have a 3G phone on unlimited data now and upgrade to a 4G phone after July 7 you wouldn't stay on unlimited you would be tiered. Any truth to that? Thanks in advanced HeHatesMe.

I'm nit sure if HeHatesMe is answering questions in this thread any longer, but I believe for now you will be Grandfathered in if you upgrade from G3 to G4 after July 7th, but nobody's sure exactly how long that's going to last yet.

Thanks HeHatesMe for the info on the Talk/Text/Data plan. This was really helpful for me and my family (5 lines!). I hope you'll continue helping everyone out.

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to help us out!

I have not seen any clear answer on whether the tethering hotspot feature will affect the Unlimited data plan in any way for those of us who are grandfathered? In other words, if I'm on Unlimited right now and then add the tethering feature after the July 7th changes take place, will I then have to switch to the tiered data plan? I like to add/remove this feature as occasion arises, and I'd hate to think I'd lose my Unlimited data plan because of it.

And the main reason I'm asking is because AT&T does NOT allow you to add a tethering plan if you are on the grandfathered Unlimited data plan. So I was hoping Verizon would not follow suit.

Hey HeHatesMe,

If I get an unlimited data plan on my current feature phone before July 7th can I buy a smartphone after that date and keep the unlimited plan?

Thanks sir,

Maybe he just REALLY wanted that sale . . .

I have a hard time believing that there will be different costs for 3G and 4G data. That being said... I think you are just fine. You should be grandfathered regardless on all of your existing lines. The way tiered data will work (to my understanding) is for new customers, new lines of service, or upgrades from Feature Phones to Smartphones once tiered data is introduced...
..........

Again, most of this stuff... you guys hear about before I do (isn't that sad?). Nothing has been mentioned to us, so I assume nothing is concrete.. HOWEVER, I would be willing to bet a lot of money that you can upgrade from 3G to 4G after 7/7 and keep your unlimited data.

Unlimited data is unlimited data, so as long as you have it prior to the change.. you should get to keep it.

Also, if they do switch to high pricing for 4g data.. you'll be forced to change most likely since its a feature, not a plan. Again, I haven;t heard that in their plans especially since 4g is still so new.. maybe once it has gone nationwide.

i just copied this text from his previous responses, didnt think i could do any harm by re-posting some of his previous posts.
he may have updated information as some of this is a week old. i too would like to know if there is a concrete answer to the 3G to 4G after the 7th 'unlimited vs tiered' and if the price would change and if so if it would still be unlimited.

I had a suggestion for the Amazon issue. Try using the last 4 of your SSN as the password as well, even if you think you don't have one. I ran into the same issue at Amazon then again at Best Buy before the BB employee figured it out.

i asked this in a stand alone thread but thought it would be wise to re ask it here, so...

i am wanting to get a tablet, but i already have an original droid in contract. what i want to do is transfer my voice plan to an old dumbphone i have lying around and transfer the data plan to a new tablet without paying any early termination fees or paying for data twice and keep my unlimited data plan.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Sorry if this has already been answered. My questions is if i sign up for iphone before 7/7 and later on i wanna move to a 4g phone, will i keep my unlimited data and get 4g unlimited data or will i be stuck with a unlimited 3g data only?

Anyone can answer this question as I am sure you are all well informed... if I were to get an Android tablet I need to get a data plan? Can I tether my phone to it? If I add it to my account do I have unlimited data or is that just grandfathered to old lines? I have been thinking about a tablet but not for a month or two.

Thank you

Coming from AT&T, I joined Verizon last fall on a month-to-month contract with 900min and unlimited data with an old BlackBerry I bought off a friend. My intent was to wait for a good LTE phone to come out before I got under contract.

Can I wait until after July 7th to upgrade my phone and get under a 2-year contract AND still keep the unlimited data I have under my current month-to-month plan?
