I keep running into talk about the kitchen and went to the page once but it's all Greek to me:) I wish I could pay attention to anything long enough to learn how to theme, I love theming on the computer, I have craploads of Stardock stuff that's mostly old now and only good on XP. Does everything have to be created by yourself from scratch or can you use like wallpapers and other elements, bmp's and jpg's from existing themes, or is that a ripoff?

No wallpapers or icons (like the built in windows themes). Deeper stuff like Stardock. For an example, check the Quicksilver link in my sig. I always list where the wallpapers, icons, and widgets come from at the bottom, near the download links.

The reverter is ready, by the way. I just finished testing it.

Nailed it! I was updating INVI and testing it, when I got the status bar crash again. I now know whats causing it, and why I'm the only one whose seen it. I tried to use an animated background for the notifications window, and bang! So, note to themers, avoid the animated backgrounds.

Edit:: INVI is now up to date. At least for now, Jerry's pretty quick with the updates. ;)

Ok I'm crying uncle, I don't get it. I just delved into the theme thing and read the pointers, and.. All skins current, I have theblues, Quicksilver, Green Machine, and the reverter(just on the card I mean). I set default launcher as default just so that GO couldn't or wouldn't even if possible screw up theming. I even flashed reverter before any other, then after another reboot I flashed theblues and I have the status bar fine, it looks right but I still have the wallpaper I've BEEN using not a different one, and when I go to theme chooser it just shows the default system(current) theme that it showed before messing with any of it, does not say "theblues", nor is it a picture of theblues, just the default. If when you flash a new theme, if it overrides the previous one, or becomes the new default, how are you supposed to end up with multiple themes in theme chooser? I'll just stop there for now, but also want to say I'm not complaining about anything, this is all cool and in the end there is flexibility and customization that I would not have previously thought possible, but I'm sure I'm not getting something so, anyone?

I have to add again that I did flash the stock launcher, launcher2.zip when installing BS in the beginning so I don't have ADW on there, not related though, right?

Our themes don't use the theme chooser. You reboot and flash. Wallpapers and launcher icons aren't part of the themes. You set those separately. To really see the difference, flash Quicksilver, note the bootanimation, and the indicator icons in the status bar. Then flash the blues, and look again. This is theming stuff you normally couldn't change. Rather subtle.

Ohhh, well that makes sense, kind of but I thought the theme chooser was an add on to iho that wasn't in stock GB, and that's where you guys were changing up your themes after you had them installed. So you have to reflash every time to change? And so it would be a good idea to flash reverter between each theme so you don't get bleed over from previous on the status bar? Again, this is still cool and gives customization so I'm not griping:)
Oh and I'd add that I have the boot animation disabled just to save a little time booting anyway so I wouldn't see the dif.

The three methods to theming on BACKside-IHO:

1- Theme Chooser: Search the market for ADW themes, which can be used in the theme changer app included with the ROM. (does not always apply all portions of a theme, usually due to incompatible resolutions)

2- UOT Kitchen: You can extract the frameworks-res.apk and SystemUI.apk from the ROM you are currently using, create a theme in UOT Kitchen and upload those apk files at the end, then flash the resulting zip file. (should apply all portions fine)

3- JerryScript's Theme Tweaks (WIP): Over time, I am adding more and more features to allow you to customize your phone without having to rely on a prebuilt theme. Currently you can alter the color of the status bar clock, choose to center the status bar clock, alter the color of the status bar background, alter the color of the overscroll glow effect, alter the text of the carrier label in the lockscreen and notification dropdown, and disable the bootanimation. In the works I have plans for adding other tweaks, but probably not for a couple of weeks, even devs need a break for the holidays. ;)

Think of it this way: theme chooser themes and UOT kitchen themes affect the same things-the core 'framework', ie, the main aspects of the phone-menus, pop up boxes, notification pulldown, statusbar icons, etc

Launcher themes (go launcher ex themes, adw themes, etc) on the other hand, change the more "superficial" elements, such as wallpaper, dock background, homescreen icons, dock icons, app drawer, etc.

Sometimes, a theme developer will come out with both a theme chooser theme and a 'matching' launcher theme, which gives you a really pulled-together, matching look. Search 'lunarui' in the market to see what I mean. (or I might post screenshot later if u want a visual.)

Or you can match and coordinate yourself- try 'ice9' theme chooser theme with kodev's ice cream sandwich theme for GO launcher.

Go crazy, mix it up, have fun ;)

Thanks sadielynn. Question, what widget could I get that gives you a nice size transparent digital clock with or without date? I don't really like the GO choices..

And here we go, screenshot. To save room, I'll just link you to my box account here (hopefully) . Took me maybe 1 minute to switch between them :)

mClock is great for any kind of clock you can imagine, but unfortunately sorta have to know how to use it...I recommend searching for mClock over at xda forums for a good education :) I'll see if I can find the link.

Edit:annnd my links are broken, gimme a second to fix that...

Second edit: Alrighty, we'll try box instead of dropbox.

Double post, shame on me ;)

Just wanted to share this, in case you all hadn't been here yet: XDA forums:
[UPDATE 12-14-11] Theme Chooser Themes - Over 300 Themes!

We can use any of the themes in the top section, ie the MDPI compatible ones.

EDIT: I just found out R3D X, the LunarUI dev, has finally made it over to Phandroid and has a thread over in the Android Themes section. (can't link it, sorry, I'm using the app, it's not nice like that)

Only thing bad about theme chooser themes its you lose check boxes in the browser. I use to have a bunch before I started making my own. Also I have yet to figure out how to produce a working theme chooser apk.
