Help Battery life and battery management

25-30 minutes of 3g web surfing drains my battery about 10-15%. This is also true for internet intensive apps like facebook. Do you have a similar experience with your EVO 3D? Also, I tested my EVO 3D against my girlfriends Fascinate using Google nav and a quick drive to the burrito shack and my phone used about 2 times as much of its battery as hers to guide me to the same destination. Typical? What are your thoughts

No, 3g web surfing only gets mine about 5-7% over 25-30 minutes. That's what I do with most of my display on time and I get almost 4 hours of display on time per charge with an hour of talking (during between 21-24 hrs). This will probably depend on your areas signal strength and mine is pretty strong.

However, GPS drinks up the batter pretty hard. 30 minutes of nav will hit me for 12-15%.

However I will say that I turn 3g/4g/Wifi/GPS/Bluetooth off when I know I won't be using my phone for a while.

If you are in a 1-3 reception area at your home ask for a Airvana Airave. It will give you 5 bars and drasticlly reduce battery consumption at home. I was using my phone all day and I am still at 80% because the radio doesn't have to work at all.

Make sure after you get one though you call technical support and tell them you have bad signal upstairs. They will boost the power of the device to cover 8,000 sq ft.

I love mine. My neighbors love it even more.

I've had my Evo 3D for about a week, and I am amazed with my battery life. It is by far the best battery life I've had on any smartphone, my iPhone included.

I am truly in love with this phone!!

Let us know how it works. I'd be interested to hear how much more life you get out of the phone with it. I currently get almost 8 hours with moderate use.

why do u need a battery extended battery for a 15 hr battery

Do we have the same phone? LOL...can you guys share your settings? I left the house with 97% battery and 4 hours later i was at 28 and I sent about 8 texts and about 5 emails. :-/

turn your gps off...turn your bluetooth off and turn 4g off when you dont use them and you will more than likely get a huge bump

i get about 20-30 hrs on mine with heavy use...but i have alot of the worthless sync stuff turned off too

this battery might make the battery life even more sweet...gonna wait on feedback though

Yeah I have all of those off and my battery still drains. I see where some people have their data turned off but wouldn't that effect my emails? I may as well have a bag phone, right?

yeah that would be pointless..i dont turn data off...how is your coverage where you live..bad signal will destroy battery life

I leave bluetooth on all the time. In a given day, it drains 3%, unless it is used extensively, then it's closer to 5-6%. Same for wifi. I don't ever turn off my wifi antenna unless I am going to go to a place where I'm going to be sitting around without wifi for awhile. Like a restaurant or a cafe. The wifi cost pays for itself, considering how bad 3G/4G can be.

My bet is one of two things: Poor signal or a rogue app. If you're constantly on 3G and some rogue app is constantly hitting the net for updates, that'll kill your battery. Even with 3G on, the 3G antenna can go to sleep if unused. 4G doesn't seem to do this, as it has to maintain activity constantly. So only use 4G when you need the speed (if available in your area, too). Facebook and Twitter really eat up battery. Make it so they can't sync and use the HTC versions and widgets for your contstant update stream. The HTC widgets are a lot easier on your battery than the official apps. Use the official apps if you need to do something more specific, because the HTC apps are fairly limited.

Here are my settings over the last day, includes 10 hours of WiFi, light calls, light texting and medium internet usage. I've got terrible signal in my house and turning off roaming really saved me on at least 30% of battery.

16 hours on battery, 40% left

Auto Sync on:
Google Auto
HTC Sense set to Push
Weather every 12 hours

Display at 30%
Mobile Network on
GPS on
Power Efficiency off
Roaming set to Sprint Only

I'm using the stock battery and my battery went 21H 18M before charging w/ 6% left. Power saver is off.

I am a moderate-heavy usage user.

That may be the culprit...its actually at my job where it drains extremely fast...i go between 1-3 bars while i'm at work. I mean it's amazing how fast the battery goes and I have 4G, BT, GPS, and wifi all off and I don't sync facebook, news, or any of those other options. I may just get the extended battery when it arrives on Amazon. I'm not paying $80 for it. Thanks for the tip!

I have a question. I went to the Sprint store on Monday to get some help with my battery life. It was doing some strange things on Saturday. I was told I should not use any type of battery indicator or battery monitor on my phone, including Juice Defender and Battery Indicator Pro. And definitely do not use any Task Killer. I know about Task Killers, but what about the battery monitors and indicators? I was told it would not only drain the battery, but it would mess up the phone. Anyone heard this before? Is there any truth to this?

Um, find someone else to talk to at the store, next time. That person was just making stuff up. There is a battery indicator/monitor built into the darn OS installed on that phone, for goodness sakes! (Oh, and the OS has a task killer, too...)

I use two monitoring/display apps/widgets, personally, and can get 20+ hours of real use of my phone.

He did say that the one that comes with phone is good enough. But I have never heard someone say that before. I have a hard time taking some of these Sprint employees serious because they all say different things that contradict each other. I do plan to ask two more stores just to see what they say.

The sales rep was telling you about how all battery monitors must use CPU resources to monitor the battery. Thus keeping the phone from sleeping. That can detract from the battery. However, most battery monitors allow you to determine when they poll. You can make it so it's only once every 5 mins instead of every single minute. I use battery monitor widget. It's a pretty good one. Task killers are definitely bad. The stock Android one is superb.

Your biggest battery killers are: Your screen, 3G/4G antennas, and anything that uses a lot of CPU time. If you're streaming movies over 4G, your battery is going to suck. If you downloaded the official facebook or twitter apps, make sure they do not auto sync in the "Accounts & Sync" option in settings. Let HTC's facebook and twitter stuff do that. et cetera

Thanks to all that have the 4000mah extended battery, who have contributed your input.

I am so looking forward to getting that extended battery for travel useage. I'm adequately prepared both at home, work and my car with chargers, so I'm never without power. But on those rare occasions when my wife drags me to one of her Filipino social parties where I can't understand what anyone is saying, the extended battery will come in handy for keeping me entertained for hours on end.

My inlaws speak english and I still have no idea what they're talking about, plus they get offended if I play on my phone, or even wear a hat, which is just ugh. :)

Where is this built in Battery whatever it is? I'm crazy and need a widget to constantly check the level of my battery. I use the BatteryLife widget to monitor the %, Voltage, condition, and ever since one of my Hero's got to 160 degrees without shutting off, I watch the temperature as well.

Are there battery widgets that suck less battery?

There is no actual widget. They mean the little battery on the notification bar. I doubt your battery widget is drinking all that much juice.

Does anyone know if there have been any announcements from Seidio and whether or not they will incorporate kickstands into their extended battery covers? I'm on the cusp of buying the 4000mah battery and the protective cover combo TODAY, but I'd hate to buy yet a third case if they decide they'll be introducing another extended battery case with a kickstand on it. I like simplicity, and tossing my phone in my pocket when I'm at work or on the go, so carrying around a seperate kickstand clip isn't going to do it for me.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, as usual.

We aren't currently working on any extended cases with kickstands but it hasn't been ruled out either. If something does come out, it wouldn't be for another month at least.

I just got the 4000 mah seidio battery with the convert case and I have to say so far I'm not impressed. I had the same setup with my evo 4g and that was great. the 4000 mah battery seems to only have about one and a half times increase in battery life over stock. This is surprising since it is rated at almost two 1/2 time's the capacity of the stock evo 3d battery. My evo 4g would easily double the usage of the stock battery. The convert case is disappointing as well, compared to the 4g case it is flimsy and the plastic skeleton doesn't fit snug with the silicone like the 4g case did. Hopefully the battery life will improve with time although the 4g's 3500 was great out of the box. One positive note> its the only extended battery/rugged case combination out there right now. Rick
