Just a suggestion.

If you have downloaded the update for Facebook for Android, there seems to be an issue with your phone "always awake". I downloaded the update and the phone battery went south fast. I uninstalled the update and seem to be back to normal.

Facebook for Android - Android app on AppBrain

After much head scratching I did some tests and I have just confirmed on my phone that the Facebook update is indeed keeping it awake. Just go into Applications --> Manage Applications --> Facebook then Uninstall Updates. I rebooted after I did that and then once back up I went into the Facebook App accepted the agreement and logged in. My EVO is now sleeping like a baby.

My battery life was horrible yesterday, but restarted the phone and it has behaved as normal today.

Only problem now is the iPhone 4 users who have not applied the update which is killing the exchange server at work... :) Our IT group is threatening to kick phones off the server if they have not been updated. I originally thought it might be my account, so I deleted it and added it again.

Sorry for going off piste.

After I rebooted my phone yesterday the battery life returned to normal as well... until I opened the new Facebook app again... And then it went back to major battery drain ( the app actually keeps the phone from sleeping). If you have Facebook 1.2 you are fine. 1.3 is the drainer.

Ok. I have FB 1.2 so that is good. How do I make damn sure I don't auto-update to 1.3??? When I go to Manage Apps it shows both are running but both are running in the background (SysPanel Lt).

How did others get updated to the new FB? Whatever you did I want to avoid THAT

We updated it in the Market. When you go to the Market and then press menu and downloads you will see which apps you have with updates. The next FB app will probably be 1.3.1. Current is 1.3.0

hmmm - interesting, I did that and there is no Facebook there for me to update (good!) but I do show I have it in 1.2 in Applications.

Funny enough Facebook just posted the fixed App... Version 1.3.1

Update: app is still broken. Nice try Facebook but version 1.3.1 still keeps the HTC EVO from sleeping. Rebooted after install and my Uptime and Awake time were exactly the same. Force closed Facebook and now my Uptime is higher than awake time hence my phone is sleeping. Uninstalled update again

Well, I uninstalled the fb update, but I'm still getting mega battery drain. 60% and 3h 17m since unplugged. I've only done some texting and a little web.

admitedlly a lot of this stuff is over my head, but i have a few pretty simple questions. I too have all the preloaded apps that i don't us being listed as running, but i just occasionally go through and clear the memory for them (i never use them). My battery life is pretty bad, not gonna lie. I did most of the things in the battery thread. My question is: does downloading and installing apps hurt your battery even if they aren't running? I have tons of games i would love to have on my phone, but i'm obviously not going to be playing them all the time. Will just "having" these apps affect my battery life? performance?

also, i don't want to take the time to read those articles, but what are the risks of using a tka. (just list the problems) Thanks!

Since Loading Froyo my battery drain situation has gone from bad to worse. I mean this phone was bad on power management before Froyo now its to an almost un acceptable level. If they don't come up with a fix fast I'm going to have to sell this power hungry pig on e bay and buy something else. Yes, I did a master reset after Froyo turned Google talk off as well as shut down all of Sprints power robbing pre loaded garbage and I still can't get the battery to last more than 5 hours. Its just ridiculous.

instead of selling it, invest 10$ into two new batteries. Or if you want to stay original, find the Factory batteries for the evo they sell on amazon for 20$ a pop. I have 4 batteries in total, and i understand these devices take up batter after having my Moment:D

Thanks I already have 4 of the Asian knock off batteries and two wall chargers. I go through about 3 batteries in one day.

I usually get about 8 hours using this phone pretty hardcore, internet and all. But you won't have great battery life because they are a high powered device.

How are you using your phone? If you're going thru 3 batteries a day u must be doing some serious data usage. My battery is pretty bad but i can get at least 7-8 before my next charge and thats with moderate use.
