Root Best 2.2 ROM?

I just installed the "CyanogenMod-6 for Hero CDMA - V6.0.0" rom a couple of days ago and honestly the only time I remember my phone running as fast and smooth as it is now is when I had android 1.6 running one of the Fresh roms with overclock. Before Cyanogen I was running Fresh 2.4 (Android 2.1) and it was ok but my phone just kept lagging to much. This was the reason I considered trying the android 2.2 roms. I'm really happy I did (so far at least). The only downside is that Flash doesn't work on this rom, but it runs so damn fast and smooth that I really don't care. If your hero lags try a 2.2 rom, I've had excellent results with mine!

Don't forget, the Sprint Hero isn't the same as a GSM Hero. I took the link out because I don't want anyone here bricking their phones.

You need this section :)

No Xyro, thats the way it worked for me on 2.2 if some of my contacts didnt sunc

Ah right yeah I found the one you mean. I didn't realise vanilla android had that option :)

I know that's a subjective question but, to anyone who's flashed their Hero with 2.2, can you let me know which one you have (Cronos, Fusion, etc...) and how it's doing?

I'm very tempted... :D

I'm running Froyd Villain 1.5.0
It's running very smoothly on my G2 touch (hero)
Haven't found any glitches on it so far except i'm having trouble recording video. Might be because I didn't do a full wipe. Might try that soon but haven't had the time so far.

I'm running the latest nightly build (124) of Cyanogen 2.2 for GSM hero.
Very very nice. Super smooth and a lot of the bugs have gone from the Alpha.
Camera works fine as well as video, gps etc. I'd definitley recommend this rom.

What are the advantages of Sense over stock Android?
There are so many 2.2 roms available that is confusing me :D

In short which one is the most reliable and bug free so far?

The UI experience is completely different, plus it gives HTC's widgets which are pretty cool. I don't think there's a distinct advantage either way - it's down to personal taste.

I've been using Elelinux 2.2.1 since it was released and it's proven 100% reliable. That's the only one I've tried recently.

I would recommend Elelinux too.

Froyd and Floyo are also the two other most popular ones I think, according to a survey on XDA recently.

Yup, 1.2.1 is awesome :)

Haiz, are you thinking of the HTC Sense method of syncing facebook contacts?

No, I did this on 2.2 to get all my contacts sorted.

EDIT, bit of a late reply lol.

I'm using Elelinux 2.2.1 Final. Bloody great Rom

Elelinux 2.2.1 final here as well, my first custom ROM, was easy as hell to install and runs very smooth (way smoother than HTC 2.1-update1).

Only thing I haven't found yet is a danish dictionary for SMS'es/etc. but it's not that much of an issue as it's my company phone which I mostly use for calls :)

There's actually a version after the 'final' version. You guys should upgrade :)

I've been using 2.2 for about 2 weeks or so now and I find it to be more sluggish than 2.1. I thought 2.2 would be much faster due to JIT. For example it is not smooth when scrolling through comments in the Engadget app. When I had 2.1, I could navigate with 1 flick of the thumb on the screen from the beginning of the page to the end. Now it would just stutter and stop.

I'm using elelinux 6.2. I erased everything before I flashed the rom. Some things load faster though, like the Manage Applications menu. Is it just me?

It's not just you, but bear in mind speed and UI smoothness are two different things. Due to lack of official HTC drivers and the like, our phones aren't 100% compatible with the animations in 2.2/2.3. So really, the phone is faster because of JIT, but it feels more sluggish.

Turning of the surface dithering option in CM settings seems to help a lot.
