Check to see if super su is installed, if it is then you have root. :)
You should also have a custom recovery now as well, depending on
what file you flashed, CWM or TWRP:)

Not sure why we are rooting.

You can theme it and make it look however you want, thats part of the reason why I first rooted my lil'ol Optimus V... and I also wanted Gingerbread since Virgin wouldn't give it to us even though the phone could even handle Jelly Bean  "It can't handle GB" pshhhhhh

But yeah, theming, overclock, etc. etc...

Ok gentleman, Im completely new to the android world, and as such you will see by my noob like creation: Not only have i (and i believe this is bricked) bricked my phone... Well let me say this its completely erased other than cwmt. Heres what happen: I have been trying to root and install cwm on my Boost zte warp sequent. I was running the latest updates something b11 or somthing. I managed to install cwmt. ANd after all attempts to root, came back with only permission denied. Can not write to disk it is rw protected. So i created a recovery. I have the recovery on my ext sd and my pc. Im running win8 with the adk and eclipse/java bundle pack fully operational. I have the adp all drives operational, and no errors. SO i figured, like an idiot... that in order to root my phone correctly, i had to wipe the old operating system and install a new one. Well i formatted everything with cwmt, minus the ext sd. Now how ever it fails to reinstall recovery from the disk. How do i get to this "download Mode"? is this the area i goto to get my phone back now? Essentially, i turn my phone on and it goes to a green dude.... who slowly fades into the back... I can still access the cwmt (although i believe it is not the updated correct vs... ) But if i mount to usbmass storage the pc reads it as a disk drive yes, but as 0mb and need to insert a disk. Ok, so I have a complete 100% COPY of my phone : How i did this was mounted to usb: and it reads .android secure, android,clockworkmod,contacts,dcim,lost.dir,pictures,smvvm,fixpermissions.log. Under cwm is of course the recovery image of my phone today. How do i get it back and in the proccess maybe root my phone?

This root method is for the original Warp only... but to unbrick, you'll have to try in the Warp Sequent forum. We can't help unbrick it since we probably have a different partition setup... but maybe they know how to get into FTM?

EDIT: forgot to say, you are correct, you do need to get into download mode to restore your phone.

i did everything like you said and when i pressed the power button and the volume button all i saw on my screen was ftm like wtf
please help

Hello and welcome to AF! :)

Well if you pressed voldown and power you would get FTM. If you press volup and power, you get recovery. do you have a ZTE WARP or a ZTE WARP SEQUENT?
This is only for the WARP(N860) not the SEQUENT(N861)... Hope this helps you! :)

Before I try this

EasyRoot CWM (ClockWorkMod)

What happens should it not work....how would I get phone back to where I have it now without loosing any apps or info

It's never really happened.... rooting in itself has never done that... ROM flashing has though... after installing, reboot into recovery and make a backup in there immediately to be safe though, if you really are that concerned. It'll go fine though :)

Most of your info is backed up on Google cloud servers anyways... but rooting won't touch the data partition. If something SHOULD go wrong (which it won't) then you can boot into ftm mode then return to stock. Then add an account and your contacts and such will be downloaded to the phone. One of the reasons why I love android so much :)

Well first thank you for advice. Just tried the easy root method. I believe it worked.
Every thing looks the same. I do notice a new app super su. At the risk of sounding totally in another era What now?. Just for conversation ..can rooting be undone at this stage ie undo it but not necessarily back to stock just to where it was before root.

Yes, I believe unroot can be done... super su is the app that only manages superuser requests from apps. Try titanium backup. It backs up all your apps+ app data and then if you lose your data or your phone suddenly dies, just pop the SD card into the new phone and restore! Its a great root app, just one of many. Upon opening an app that requires superuser, SuperSU will ask you to give it superuser access. Confirm it to give it root access, and watch the magic happen. Also, try flashing dm47021's Alien Kernel 3. It'll boost your CPU by 80%, in other words, instead of normal 1 GHz speed as it says on the box, you'll get 1.804 GHz. It'll fix flashlight, and boost sound a bit too, speed up the phone, alot of great things. Plus you won't lose your apps or data, like the easyroot zip you installed.

You made a really great choice in rooting your phone! :D just be careful on what you install because not everything works on this phone (like the Beats Audio installation, Ac!d Audio, PurePerformanceX, some work, some may not) so read read read before installing.

Happy flashing! :D
