Root [Boost Mobile] [ROM] n00b (B10 based) VIII.II FULL Install 1/23/2013

I'm pretty much done with my theme. I just ran into a little bit of a snag. I'll try to upload it tonight (unfortunately, I don't know how to create a flashable zip on a mac, so i'll just upload the framework and systemui files so you can install it manually using ninjamorph).

I can't wait to share it with you guys!

- Edit: I just realized that I could share the UOT file with you guys. I'm such a n00b. xD
- Edit: I might not be able to release it until sometime tomorrow or the weekend.

here is a zip that changes the black text in the notification pull down when you are downloading to white so you can read it: http://db.tt/uCz2jjTf

Please post back if this corrects the issue for all instances of the black text on black background for you guys, I have only encountered it while downloading something, but I think there were a couple apps that were mentioned that I don't use that people said had notifications in the ongoing area that were black on black.

Let me know either way, at least I found the fix for what I was seeing :)

How did you create this Mr. Bobo? I'm having the black text problem in the notification pull down too for this theme that I'm making for n00b. I changed the color using UOT kitchen and want that black text to be the same as that color (33B5E5). Any help would be amazing :)

Maybe I'm missing something. I am new to installing custom roms to a phone. I tried to install the rom , but I was greeted by "failed to verify Signature " or something like that. I read that I do not need root to install on my Warp. I tried this by entering recovery menu via vol up + power. Am I missing something?

Are you on public mobile? If so you will need to root manually first, if you are on Boost that might just be a bad download

This question is for mainly Mb, but others input are welcomed.

I gave my warp1 to a friend of mine and he is really annoyed at the reboots. So I mentioned about people rooting the phone and it fixes a lot of the issues, so guess what, I'm recuriting him to NOOB rom, yay!!! :)

So yeah that aside, he doesn't overclock at all, he just wants a working phone, so I guess I'll ask, not knowing much about the new stuff in this rom, such as the overclock part, is that like a choice you can decline or does it overclock the phone automatically, or what?
I want to get him the simplest easiest rom available, and I know MrBobo replies very fast and fixes any issues fast that may occur, so I look forward to a reply soon.

Mrbobo is usually here during the week. He has a large family that requires his time on weekends. :D The ROM loads a non-oc kernel from downthemachine. My girlfriend had the same problem as your friend with the reboots so I finally talked her into this ROM and she hasn't had a reboot a single time since. 6 weeks running! I haven't either. I loaded the OC kernel for her games as well and didn't want her to ever come to me with problems so I kept hers simpler than mine. :D Hope I helped your friend decide

Well he is to say the least, very aw struck and amazed at MrBobo's work/rom :)
He can't seem to get over the cool power/sleep on and off affect, plus the flashing android at the bootup, he is like drooling of those effects LOL.

Phone is snappy and zippy, and so far 1/2 hr and no lockups or reboots, everything's working good.

He says hats off to the nice work that everyone's done on this rom.

Even though I now own a Samsung SII I said I'd frequent here, and I'm glad I do now.

Tell him to sign up for Android Forums and to join us also :D We love having new members! I'll give the premature "Welcome Aboard"! haha Have you also shown him some of the awesome themes people have made on the n00b ROM? Says a LOT about a ROM when people wanna theme it! MrBobo really kicked some serious azz on this. I won't bring up some of the other fantastic works for this phone on this thread out of respect for MrBobo but this community has much to offer your friend and his Warp. MrBobo, I'm quite certain, would agree and even say this ;)

Well, I would but.......he's not really tech savvy at all, that's why I was the one who rooted the phone :). He's more like "here, you do it" so when I say try things, he's like nah you go ahead, you do it faster and know more.
He just wouldn't fit well really, not that he's stupid or anything, he's VERY smart, just not a techy type. All the lingo and tech talk and how-to stuff would just confuse him and frustrate him and make things worse.

He asked me last night, "HOW do you sit here and do this stuff, it'd drive me nuts!" I kinda laughed and explained it's more a hobby kinda than anything, so I enjoy tinkering and messing with gadgets and hardware so I guess you could label me as a gadget man :).

The best way I could analogize it for him was is, he does fine tuning to pictures, and does photo stuff, very tedious stuff to me. I've seen him zoom way in to a like single pixel and clean that area up for what seems mins or even hours, zooming out and checking it, and zooming in to fine tune it again. To "ME" I find that very tedious, and would bother me and drive me nuts. I guess I don't have much if any patience for that sorta thing, just like I don't have patience to solder at all. So I asked him how do "you" sit and do that for what seems hours? it's kinda the same scenario to me, just he enjoys that, I enjoy this stuff.

So far we've been watching and keeping an eye on the reboots, and last night him setting the phone back up for about 4 1/2 hrs there was no lockups, only a single reboot, and that was forced because the phone was getting laggy, we just assumed it was from all the installing and such, so we decided to do a reboot and make it fresh again.

I haven't talked to him yet this morning, but I will ask tonight when I get home, and post back with results/updates.

you have to decompile and edit the xml, can't honestly remember what one I ended up editing to fix the black on black issue... I highly recommend downloading the free trial of beyond compare to find what I changed vs what's in yours. First you will need to use apk manager or apk multitool etc to get to the xml, then decompile yours and use something like beyond compare to do a full compare, focus on the xml files and find the differences, it was an elusive one to find, I actually still have at least one app that has black on black sometimes, but it's not enough for me to dig into.

Sorry, I guess I should take better notes or make a post about what I changed because I touch so many files so regularly it's hard to remember what line of code I changed for things like this...

Hey everybody and especially MrBobo.....
First question: How many user apps do you have installed at this very moment?
Second question: How long does it take you to get all your apps installed after a complete wipe?
Third question: What method do you use in the reinstall i.e. Titanium Backup (TB) OR Play Store, Aptoide, etc.?
Last question if applicable: If TB do you restore thru batch or one by one and do you just restore app, app+data, or a combo?
Just curious because I think it can provide a little perspective on whether to reinstall apps one by one thru the Play Store, Aptoide, etc or doing a Titanium Backup restore and the time it takes to do both on this ROM. Thank you in advance :D:D:D

The bloatware zip in post three is all of my apps except for the paid apps I use (just swiftkey 3 and titanium at the moment), there are only maybe one or two I might add to the next bloatware zip update that I manually installed (usa navfree, antek explorer). I flash that zip to install my apps, no titanium restores (I use titanium for ROM building, that's about it).

The most time consuming activity I do after flashing a ROM is setting up swiftkey, it takes about 3 minutes, the second most time consuming is setting up text to speech synthesis, I don't like pico so I always install ivona tts (amy is my favorite voice), that is also pretty quick, about 1 minute. To flash my zip takes about 2 minutes so I would say in about 5 minutes I am up and running except for all the tinkering I like to do. Someday I would like to incorporate my personal preference defaults for the system settings and launcher settings, but really it's not that big of a deal for me to reload from scratch since I have my bloatware zip. FYI, if anyone wants to create their own bloatware zip, you can copy the user apks (/data/app folder) to your computer, then delete my apps out of the bloatware zip data/app folder and replace them with yours. Then just flash the zip and you are good to go.

I used to use titanium to restore user apps, it acutally usually did a decent job and didn't cause too many issues, the only system app data I restored usually was mms for my texts, but I decided I just don't need to hang on to texts anymore so that simplified things for me.

NICE! I'm happy I asked ya because it never dawned on me to zip my user apps. Great idea. I rarely run into problems doing a batch TB restore of user apps+data but I just copied over everything from my 16gig class 6 to my 32gig class 10 and was having a few lag annoyances as well as apps and widgets behaving funky. They've since been worked out by clearing cache's numerous times and about 3 rom reflashes so I was thinking of wiping it all out except photos, music, video, keyboards, and game data and using your method in post 3 or 4 (can't remember right now) but thought that since you wrote that you may have a better way or somebody else might have a cool method. TB takes about 20 minutes to restore my app+data for 117 apps but flashing a zip sounds much better and cleaner. I've literally flashed and reflashed ROMs probably 150 times now so it's time for something new. BTW I learned on my very first rom install to not restore system info lol Got stuck in a horrible boot loop haha

My method will just restore the apps, if you want the data from the apps you have to also restore the corresponding folder from data/data. My zip will flash whatever you put in the data folder, so you could add the data/data and get app data back as well. I haven't tried doing that myself though.

Well GOOD news folks, My friend that we rooted my old warp for him, it ran ALL day without a lockup or issue, WOOOOHOOOO!!!!!

Anyways, it feels nice to actually fix and resolve things for people, he's really happy he rooted now.
