Root [Boost Mobile] [ROM] n00b (B10 based) VIII.II FULL Install 1/23/2013

Wow. This rom is even more amazing! I actually like adw launcher better than holo. Adw has improved a lot since last time I used it. Phone is looking great and running great. Thanks Mr Bobo for all of your hard work.

I'm getting a lot of lag. When I get calls it my answer button doesn't work right away...it take a couple of seconds for my button to slide when I touch it. Also when I start an app my buttons take a second or two to respond to my touch. Then when I hit the buttons repeatedly from it lagging...after a couple of seconds it does all my touches back to back.
Any ideas?

I thought that the unmounted SD card was the issue, but want sure how to fix it. I will take your advice and report back. Thanks for all your help!!!

HOORAY I was finally able to update my ROM to the latest version:D
My sd caard was the culprit all along. I want to thank those that took the time out to assist me. You are a great group of people;)

I had the same issue using twrp (when I first started flashing roms couldn't figure it out for nothing, what I realized was I had to create a readable backup on the SD card I was using, dunno if this will help but do something back up erase caches and try install from zip, I've had no problems with this rom in any way. Thanks again Mr bobo!!!

From what I've read and experienced, those issues aren't very common on his rom. I recommend that you 1) backup your apps using titanium, 2) clear dalvik cache and cache partition, 3) reflash n00b VII, n00b VIII update, and n00b VIII.I update in that order, 4) reboot and report back to here.

Did exactly that....flashed it, in order.....still having the same issues...and now when the battery is charging, instead of seeing a lightening bolt, it numerically ascends up to 99, that is quite annoying and an absolute eye sore.

That is the way it is designed by MrBobo. I suggest if you find it an eye sore that you load one of the themes by croy or i2f and find something more suitable. There are many themes listed for this ROM. Check the OP and search the forums and find something to soup it up to your liking.

Just out of curiosity, what did you make the swap size in your latest update?

Edit: Never mind. I figured it out :-)

Random, but I found this app on the play store and it sounds really interesting.

Ram Expander

I haven't tested it yet, but from what I've read, it would definitely make this phone fly.

from reading about it in the description, I can't see anything it's doing that the swap script in the init d doesn't already do. It does give a nice user interface to change the values for those averse to opening the script, but other than that I don't see a benefit.

Consequently, feel free to play with swappiness, I keep coming back to default 60 in my testing. The minfree values can also be tweaked, but again I keep coming back to the set I have up there (swiped those off shin I think from his ROM).

I set the swap size to 256mb, should be way more than is needed for most people. I don't mind it being large because we acutally have memory to burn internally. Fully loaded my setup runs about 775 mb used and 2.7 gb free on the data partition.

The lag was a zRam issue, I keep wanting to love zRam but it's really been a pain in my side since I included it, I tried one last-ditch effort by running both together, but it seems like zRam doesn't respect cache pressure etc the way swap does and never empties itself so eventually it fills up then lags like a bandit, honestly though for me it's not so much an issue since I reboot regularly. In the end though I hear you guys and just commented out the zRam script, it's there if people want to play with it but for now I will just leave it disabled.

Well, I updated with the zRam fix...then I get a phone call shortly after rebooting the phone, I was just finishing sending a text when the call came in, and by the time i had something to where I could answer the call...the call had gone to voicemail.

can you backup, do a factory data reset and confirm if this happens with no apps/themes loaded (if you do have a theme installed, please reflash the whole ROM to test. You should not have that kind of lag.

EDIT: I am doing this too to do some testing and prep for making a full fresh install update with all changes incorporated so new users can flash direct to VIII with all the updates. I will let you know if I see the same lag as you are reporting, but even fully loaded with all my test apps it didn't seem to be lagging terribly (not any more than "usual" for the warp at least)

EDIT EDIT: verified that no lag when calling VII, flashing update to VIII now.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: verified no lag for phone with update VIII, flashing VIII.I now.

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT: verified no lag with VIII.I for phone: phone was able to be answered on second ring, phone app opened up on first ring. flashing lag fix.

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT: LOL about the edits, it's been a long day :) Anyways, I did apply the VIII.II Lag Fix and found no lag when receiving calls. I am concluding it's an app or a theme.

For future reference, if you have a bug please state the mods you have applied to your phone or if it's a clean install. I can't account for every setup when it comes to things like lag, there are MANY apps that can contribute to lag, this phone doesn't have dual core processing or anything amazing spec wise so I would expect lag if you have lots of widgets on your desktop or apps installed that frequently update.

Hmm, no lag here, I dont think I need the newest update, But I did do a complete clean install this time.
The whole nine yards, Factory data reset , etc, even reformatted the sd card. I loaded the Rom and updates on my sd card through the laptop using a card reader, flashed them all one at a time doing reboots in between, Then downloaded my apps from the play store. I have the kernel backed off to 1708.

Basically this post is just to add to the database here for the rom. I have setcpu on smartassVII/sio.

I'll go back through, and wipe everything and start fresh. I'm also getting my wife a Warp tomorrow. So that'll help determine if it's anything on my phone. I think the problem may lie in the fact that I had the Behind Glass theme, then did the updates...No Worries...I'll get it all back. :-) Usually haven't had problems, til this latest time. but Like I said, I'll wipe all and restart.

Im running update VIII.I with no lag. Swape and Zram still enabled. I tweeked my minfree setting to 6,8,10,140,115,250. Im no dev, but all is well on my phone. It benchmarks a bit slower but runs faster as far as UI, loading apps, loading web pages. Hope this helps.

good stuff sic and red and lil...

sic, I want you to know I appreciate your testing and giving feedback. It helps to know that you had a theme, I am going to put up a clean full install zip soon. Every themer has different apps themed in their zip, some of those are fine but others do impact the way the ROM runs if they aren't up to date with the latest ones, I did bring over many of the b10 apks so those need to be rethemed in some cases... most themes should run fine since I didn't hit a lot of the most common apps that get themed like systemui, framework-res, phone, contacts etc.

red, the lag caused by zram only happens after a day or more of running many apps and not rebooting, that's why it's never been a big deal to me because I reboot way more than most due to working on updates etc.

lil, good feedback as always, my defaults for the ROM are 1.6ghz, smartassv2 and sio so you are close to "stock n00b" just running a lil hot, which I have come to expect from you ;)
