I am running WARP OEM 2.01 AWESOME ROM!!! Just thought I could update alien kernel to 3.0 but takes me back to bo8c. Thanks for help I already reflashed from.

You can. All you have to do is open the zip in winrar or something... dont extract.. abd just delete tje build.prop in the alien zip file

How you you actually install this kernel. Finally just rooted phone. I gather this would be my next step. How easy is it to go back to original kernel if one wanted ?

Download it to your sdcard and assuming you've also installed cwm boot into recovery install zip from sd card...however, I should note that instead of just installing the kernel onto a stock rom you'd be better off just installing one of the custom roms like woem, halo, droidsmith, etc. as they all have the kernel built in and a whole bunch of other stuff to boot like integrated tether and such.

Thanks...I understand about the roms however not quite at that stage yet....After I managed to root I did do a backup......If for any reason this alien kernel doesn't work (I assume it will since I'm not the first to do this) If I had to do a recovery would that put system back to just before changing kernel in other words would I be back to stock kernel

Yes it would, assuming the boot.img backs up correctly. Also, you can now use Online Nandroid Backup from market since you are rooted. Connect to WiFi and back up from there and in 6 minutes or less backup is done :D

Ok Hope fully I can back all up correctly then assuming installation of this kernel goes ok will changes be obvious such as new settings or hope fully I will just notice differences

They won't be obvious in the sense that your phone will begin to talk to you and try and take over the world, it'll be big changes on a system level that you'll notice throughout the next few hours after flashing it (less lag, no lockups or freezing, apps opening faster, apps performing faster, apps loading faster, etc. etc.)

how do i know if i did this properly...installed from zip...after reboot under phone info kernel info apears the same...under sw version it changed from n860v1.0.0b10...to..Alien Kernel Owns You

Then you did it properly. :)

You also need to download an app called Voltage Control from the play Store, It will let you control the kernel. ;)
Adjust it's speed and Governor. Most of us set it at SmartassV2/sio, :)The speed is up to you, I crank mine up to the Max!! :D

ok thanks we will get to that next i had previously downloaded...no frills cpu controller....any thoughts on that one....Also using Alien ran ...Antutu benchmark test....it froze when it got to ...open GL es 2.0 test had to pull battery to reboot.....just to test i restored back to stock kernel....and the benchmark tester ran straight through....the number it came up with is 4752...which i asume is probably lousy

Actually thats a normal number for stock, and before we boosted the living crap out of the gpu in our phones. Now a normal number is about 8000, give or take 200 points. 3 of the fully working roms here (HaloBean, Warp OEM, and DroidSmith) have the GPU tweaks in them. Its unnecessary for someone who doesn't use alot of apps or games. Also, lately we've switched to Quadrant Standard. Its better for benchmarking since it gives a more consistent score and then a visual graph and comparison to other phones so you can see where yours stands. Give it a try :D

I gather what ever problem Im having with Antutu benchmark test and open GL es 2.0 kernel test just may be a bug in Antutu...as it runs with Alien... Ill give the other benchmark a try then reinstall Alien.....Since I really don't do anything real heavy duty with phone not sure if Ill really notice differences...big thing with me is to eliminate or at least reduce the amount of reboots when using navigator.....Eventually I will deal with possibly a different rom...but that's for another day :)

Ok lets see have a few general questions...hope I post them to correct place....I have alien kernel installed I tried to bump up the clock just a touch from 1.401 top 1.613 using either n0-frills cpu or voltage control...It doesnt seem to be "sticking" Each controller has a "apply at boot" option. Am I suppose to keep that constantly checked off on which ever controller I use.
++++++++++++++++++

Also when using Alien and trying to use Antutu benchmark it still is getting stopped /frozen at a certain spot as noted in a previous post..when Im using stock kernel its about 4752...since it freezes using Alien cant get a good reading....Tried Quadrant benchmark as recommended it appears to show 2213 using stock kernel and I think it was abt 2986 using Alien at 1.613 clock

You're supposed to use apply at boot for the controller you want to stick. And its an AnTuTu bug, thats why I asked the testers for my rom to switch to Quadrant. You see the performance in the scores, huh? And you have one of the faster Warps! Your Warp doesn't even have GPU tweaks, not fully overclocked, and you're getting THOSE points!? Freaking awesome, you may have the new fastest Warp

I use voltage control, its simpler and easier to use, imho.

This Warp is 1 yr old as of End of this past August.

Again thank you for help......I'm going to let it run for a while with Alien and Stock Rom eventually will experiment with one of the other roms

Been running Alien for couple of days now. Had cpu set for1.613 ghz The governor was set for Performance (using no frills cpu controller) Any recommendations to set governor differently such as form "ondemand". I'm trying it now seems to give a slightly better benchmark using Quadrent benchmark.

How high can U over clock the cpu before it really damages it.?

I always run 1.8, never had any sort of damage at all and I've been running this this like that for just over a year now, performance locks the CPU at the highest allowed clock speed so I reccomend SmartassV2 since its an excellent balance between performance and battery life. Ramps up when needed, stays low when not needed. Performance can damage CPU after some time I believe.

I'd like to do a short update and hope fully some of my observations and questions can be addressed.
Originally it all started with stock warp rebooting for no apparent reason on its own primarily when using Navigation app which I assume is tied to Google maps app.
People said root phone....so I took a shot and with input from members here (thanks to all for advice and help) I rooted phone then changed kernel to"Alein" using "No frills cup control" set max clock free to 1.613 ghz and changed Governor to smartassV2. Am still using stock ROM
Yesterday had to bring one of my sons home to CT. Set Nav app to his Ct location at 9:30am and by 10:15am phone did it again and rebooted on its own for no apparent reason. Since we were almost at location I did not restart app at that time. However upon starting return trip at 12:30 pm I started Nav app again and promptly at 12:48 pm phone rebooted on its own again

The random rebooting really can be cured by installing a custom ROM. I would suggest either HaloBean or WOEM. They both run Alien kernel and are both b10g based which takes care of that system update notification. Both are solid and stable. I have used both extensively and have NO random reboots. GPS works perfectly. Once you take this step I think you'll finally be happy with your Warp! I'm running HaloBean now and love it:
