Root Can't make nandroid backup

My daughter is on Mikg2. 61 with more freedom. I tried to make a nandroid backup for her today and it errored out pretty quickly. I got an error message that said something like "oops something went wrong. Check the error log" or something similar. She has not been having any problems. I was just doing some preventative maintenance. I'm not sure how to check the error log. Any ideas on what went wrong? I tried twice with the same result.
 
I just wanted to add that I'm not trying to restore a backup, I'm trying to create a backup using amonra 2.3.
 
How much space do you have left? That would be my first guess. Without going though the error log, which is located .... sorry, I don't seem to see it anywhere on my phone.
 
Try to make the nandroid again, when you get the error go back to the main menu and under options there should be something like Move recovery log to SD. Then you can read the txt file on the SD card.

Each time you reboot it wipes the recovery error logs clean
 
yeah sounds like this has to do with your sd card. it is most likely getting full and you do not have enough space on the card. but to be sure report back what it says on the recovery log that rxpert mentioned.
 
She lives in a nearby town so I stopped to see her on my way home from work. I was going to look at her sd card but when I hooked her phone up to her computer I could not find the evo 4g drivers. weird I could find the Evo 3d drivers on the HTC website but not 4g. I was in a hurry so maybe I just missed it. I'm off today so I'm going back over with my laptop that has the drivers installed. Because she lives so from away, it's been a while since I did any housekeeping on her phone (November). Before I left, I wiped cache and dalvik but did not try to create a nandroid again after wiping her caches. She is not partitioned, so I didn't think dalvik was on her sd card.

I've used amonra but I'm still stumbling along. I rooted my phone and my husbands and my daughters. I make nandroid backups on my husbands and mine weekly so I was surprised to see the error in hers. I had wimax checked too so it was big. I think she has the original card that came with the phone. Not sure. Have to look at the size when I go back over there.

When I reformat just to clarify the steps-
1. Save her sd card contents on pc
2. Pull sd card and format fat32 on pc - don't see an option on phone. Looked under settings/sd card and storage. Just see option to wipe to factory settings. Does wiping format?
3. Put card back in phone and move contents from pc to sd card after I get rid of extra stuff like photos.

before you re-format it look to see how much is on the card. also nandroid backups are huge. they do take up a lot of space, so if you are doing a lot of nandroid backups that could be your issue. i only keep two on my card. one i really like and the other is the one i'm currently on.
 
Hey there, I sort of stumble along too. :D I don't know why you want to format her card though. If it is just too full, can you take some off or get a larger card?

In general, I think you have it right. If you are going to get a larger/better card, have you thought about partitioning her card? When you do that with recovery, it will format the card for you.

I kinda like the fact that it does it since it is going to be using it.

If you are intent on formatting it though, I used a program called SD Formatter

What is this exe file? Is this file safe? Check the directory

I only used it once. I was having trouble with the pc recognizing my phone card. Now I use ms toggle in recovery. It works better either way though since I formatted it.

Not sure of all of the settings with it, I stumbled through it as well. Hope it works out that the card is just too full.
 
If your not having issues with the card you should refrain from formatting the card a simple delete will suffice in clearing storage. In linux the rm command can be used to delete. Or from any gui file manager edit select all and delete
 
My daughter took out the 16g card she had in her phone to use in her DS3 and put a 2g card back in her phone. She only had 422M free.
She'll get another card day and I'll try again.

Okay, cool. I'm guessing then it was the space issue. Most of my nandroids run between 300-600MB, depending on what I back up.
 
I know the reviews are bad, almost put me off it too, but I have had it for a good while now and have absolutely no complaints!
 
don't get the patriot. I had one and it died in three months. if you are willing to wait, best buy has sales and you can get a good card for that same price. I got a couple PNY cards after the patriot turned traitor and I've been on the same card for over a year now

eta. I suppose it's possible patriot has fixed its issues...my experience was around christmas before last

hi...what ever card u get class 10 is the correct move 1-10 and 10 is the best so ur on the rite track and should do well...good luck to u and ur daughter.

What ever card you get just make sure to format it from the phone. Nandroid Wipe should be good enough. If your going to partition it for her apps then go into the partition section of Amon RA. You can select zero for swap space as no Kernels are supporting it yet. However I do understand Anthrax may be.

1024 should be plenty of space for apps.
