Accessories Car Dock Discussion Thread

I'm using the mid-sized disk. I'm sure the small disk will hold just fine. I think the disk size is more for adhering to the device, not the magnetic hold.

I mounted mine ~3/4" above center. That way it is nice and stable on a table and still allows me to rotate it to landscape in the mount (too far towards the top and gravity will swing it back to portrait).

Thanks! Good info before I mount this!

OK, all finished with the MWAY. Here's a few thoughts for anyone thinking about this or either of these products.

1) Removing the M2 mount from the silicone case was very difficult. I needed to use a knife while pulling the disc. Impressive.

2) Oddly enough, I just talked to someone about this and said I had no concerns, but when I went to mount XWAY in the car, I noticed a lot of play on the M2 base. I removed the screw and found that the adhesive is peeling back from the metal base plate, not the dash. That could be because my dash is concave, so there's a good amount of pressure at the screw point. I'll most likely have to try some heavy duty 3M tape to properly secure the base plate.

3) I mounted the new disc where the bottom of the disc is at the center line of the case. This allowed enough stability to use on a table, while also keeping the camera lens clear of the X, so I can still use the camera/video cam while mounted.

4) Stability of the phone in this config is great! Because the X is pressed tight against the M2, you can press/slide/flick with no problems at all. Very pleased with this.

5) That magnet is strong! There is no problem with the phone staying in portrait or landscape mode.

So far I'm thrilled with this setup as it's the best of both worlds. Just need to make sure the base plate issue is resolved and I should be good to go.

Few pics of everything....

Just curious what is the advantage of using the X adapter on top of the normal M2 mount. Was the M2 mount by itself not secure enough ?

Curious about the same thing myself. I have the x-way and the x part doesn't supply as much support as I thought it would for side to side movement in landscape mode for texting and such.

Depending on how the M2 is setup, it's either rock solid, or not bad. My original setup had the top piece I removed angled down so the phone rested on the base of the unit. That was great...no movement at all. But it was too low, so I reconfigured it and with the phone "floating" by the disc which was decent, but it did leave a little to be desired. It was perfectly fine for GPS use, but any kind of tapping was a bit of a pain. That's why I wanted to check out the XWAY, but I was a bit concerned with how soft it was when I got it yesterday. Mounted this way though there is no movement at all while in portrait mode. You can see that the XWAY is actually wedged in, and the bottom part is tight to the base of the M2. I don't know if this will help in landscape mode, but I was typing and swiping with no issues in portrait. In fairness to the M2, there's a good chance that the movement I had was actually caused by the Verizon case. There's a fair amount of movement back there. I'm thinking that if the M2 was directly mounted to either the phone or a hard case, it would have been fine. Plus the XWAY looks cool. :)

Just pick up my Holster and Mount Combo @ verizon store $29.99

Pros: simple, hold IC really good because it uses holster.
Cons: You can't use ur own case.(Personally, I hate that). IC might get hot because it located near windshield.

I will user few more days and decide to refund :-) or not.

Only thing that I do not like is you can not use your on case because it uses holster. But, it holds phone really good and secure.

Topshelf, very nice!!! How did you get the X way to connect to the M2? Did you just remove the connector disc on the M2 and clip the X way on?

I just ordered 2 from wiredforless.com using a discount code "woot" for 5 bucks each, and a 5$ shipping fee.

(Almost too good to be true...I used paypal.)

Okay, I was concerned, but my M2's arrived today.

Great service and price. I'm a sucker for good service, and the signed invoice was a nice touch.

Can't wait to go mount it.
( wait...That didn't come out right.)

Yep, after all my clever ideas, it was as simple as removing screw, remove connector disc, reinsert screw, attach XWAY to screw. At first I thought it was going to look a bit lame, but you'd have to stare through the windshield to spot the missing piece. I'm fine with that. Just wedge the XWAY in nice and tight and it isn't moving at all.

Can I ask you guys a question, I have been playing around with the settings profile app and want to set it to turn bluetooth on when in a car. The devlopers said that you could do this by having it read the car dock, but how does it do that?

Are they talking about the car charger as the dock?

I attempted to mount a Soundgate M2 in my car today, but when I went to clean the surface on my dash with the cloth they provided, there was hardly any residue on the cloth and I don't think it left anything on the surface for the pad to bond with. Does anyone have any ideas what I could do? I tried some 3M double sided tape but as soon as I put any force on it, the tape would just rip up.

The Soundgate M2 looks interesting. Does it hold the phone both vertically and horizontally? It looks like it locks in one direction depending on how the disc is mounted on the phone. Thanks.

The disk has a "nub" that slide into one particular place, once it is in it can be rotated. It is "tight" enough to hold in both positions.

Just ordered an M2 from wiredforless.com. For under $10 shipped it's worth a shot. Not the biggest fan of sticking something to the case but it looks pretty unobtrusive and seems to be a clean solution. Thanks for the heads up on the deal!

I'm looking for a car mount, not sure what I want. I do have one fear though. What happens if the mount fails and it falls down? Busted phone. Can someone alleviate my fears?

Regarding the Tetrax products...would the magnets themselves harm the phone at all? Magnets and computers don't usually get along. Has anyone read or heard of the magnet not holding and the device falling off? It says it can withstand 5g of acceleration, what happens if you get in a minor accident? Will it still hold?

I posted a video in this thread that shows the magnets will not interfere with phone.

As far as the holding power it depends on how hard your hit. But really I'd be more worried about car and passengers than phone.

Thanks for the video. Still worries me a bit since reviews state that it will kill your credit cards instantly. What if you slide the magnet over the phone and don't line it up correctly? Eventually you'll get it in the correct spot but what happens the other times? How do you like your X-Way? Does it hold up well?

Sure the passengers are more important in an accident and the car is worth a lot more but car insurance doesn't cover cell phones ;)

On the XWAY, it literally sucks it in to place if you close.

I love the XWAY. ALLOT!!!!!

I kinda meant that it would really all depend on how hard or what impact it would take to jiggle it off. I would image allot, but do not want to test it :p
