Accessories Car Dock Discussion Thread

Nice. I own an '08 Civic too, and it so happens that I'm also leaning towards an Arkon mount. But instead of a windshield mount, I'm pondering a dashboard "bean bag" type mount, like the SM412 model listed on Arkon's site:

</title><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html

I'm hoping it'll fit somewhere on that ledge between the Civic's steering wheel and speed gauge area. Not sure if it'll work though.

My chick has a Toyota Corolla, so we'll see which one she wants for her car and I'll use the other one.

I bought the Arkon one that connects into the lighter. I really, really like it. The only problem is the little grabber things that hold the phone on the sides covers the usb port. I have to raise my phone up about 1/4" off the bottom support to be able to plug it in. Not that big of a deal because it is very secure when the grabbers are holding it-- it doesn't budge.

Just thought I'd give a head's up if you were considering purchasing one.
It sounds like you got the Mini Grip, because I know for a fact that the Mega Grip doesn't block the USB port.

Arkon's customer service is really good. If you call them and explain your issue, they might replace your Mini Grip with the Mega even though it's been a while. Doesn't hurt to give it a try.

I have to agree that the ProClip looks like the best option out there. Too bad it's so expensive for both parts (Your Car adapter and the Dock) It also tilts and swivels..

Just picked up the "official" one from Verizon. The only thing I don't like is that the car charger doesn't plug into the dock (plugs into the Inc instead), and there is no clip on the dock for the charger cable.

My official/OEM dock broke after two weeks. I was driving along and my phone fell on the floor. Turns out the removable holster latch broke where it connects to the stalk. You can see where the plastic clip broke away. Need to visit the Verizon store to ask for a replacement. :(

Just for information, I have used these without the car mount. The swivel that it comes with can be 3M double sided taped to your dash or where ever. I have two of the swivels taped to the dash of my Fusion and then have a T lock adapter screwed to it using several different phone holders. Of course if you purchased the Proclip Incredible dock then it would be the only phone holder you could use unless you adapt the holder with another mounting system to the swivel. I have pics of my Fusion if you want to see. The tape is strong too because I had a Viliv S5 attached to it as well and it weights about a pound or more.

I'm on my third one for this very reason. I liked the idea someone had of gluing or adhesive taping an adapter to it that is stronger and tighter than the clip. I'm sure they will stop letting me return them after awhile.

Why not get one of Arkon's smartphone mounts that are specifically described as being compatible with the Incredible?

I got the SM412 and am very pleased with how it turned out.

I don't like that one because the mount is big and clunky. The slim grip is sleek.

Ok so I got it, installed it and LOVE it...BUT have a few, I'm sure minor issues.. I have a Honda Accord, just to start.

First, while putting on my new silicone case, it managed to INSTANTLY peel up the corners on my $25 screen protector!!!!! The protector was flawless since day 1, now ruined :-(

Second, on my car, there is a nice little slant to the vents. The ideal place would be on the left of the driving wheel, which would also give me privacy when ppl are in the car with me...Problem there is, the power cord would be to inconvenient, stretching it across the wheel. So I put it on the right sided vent, closest to the wheel. Now there are 5 slots, but it can't go on the top slot bc it's not wide enough. So I had to put it on the 2nd slot...Holds pretty well but it sits right on top of the temperature level for the ac/heat, when NOT in horizontal position. Being that the main screens do not rotate, i see myself using it mostly in this orientation, which is a teeny bit inconvenient if i need to mess with the temperature.

Thirdly, when applying the magnet, i was trying to put it slightly above mid-point but got too close while measuring and it stuck!!! it landed a tad bit higher than I would've liked, so when the phone is in landscape, it tends to rotate verrrrrrrrrrrrry slowly, depending on the driving conditions, bc the weight is off centered. :-(

Overall, I like it a LOT and LOVE the cleanliness of it!!! If it wouldn't have ruined my protector, I wouldn't be THAT upset, but that has me a bit annoyed...

LOL ...i have the same car and was excited to receive my tetrax but i misunderstood thinkgeeks pulldown menu and ordered the "standard" (which in reality is the GEO model... since it was the only one to select (xway was sold out) and didnt know at the time of order (and im sending it back tomorrow for a refund, hopefully i get mt original shipping costs refunded too since i feel their ordering process is misleading ..wish me luck... anyways ... I know exactly what u mean with the vents and the vent tab is to fat for the grip  .. so i ordered the M2 for $9 w/ shipping using the "woot" code and thats should be arriving soon, in the meantime i need to find where to purchase the xway and be able to use credit card and NOT paypal ...

So i think using the M2 along with the xway ..it should work by putting it under the ac buttons or above the radio (but i think the glare will cause me to not see my DX well ... i dunno .. i will take pics once i find a good place to put it...

I found that the Soundgate M2 fits snug in my Garmin Nuvi 200 car mount. I did not use the sticky to attach it it just snaps in. There is no place to mount on my dash so this works out.

Ok, so I posted this yesterday, but it appears that a forum restore was done and a lot of posts were lost from Friday the 13th. Imagine that..

So anyways, like many of you I am quite frustrated with Verizon's and HTC's complete boondoggle of the Incredible launch and the complete absence of accessories as a result. I love my incredible, so I had to throw this together..

So it still needs some finishing... I need to Dye the wire ties, remove a China sticker here and there. This dock will take a cased phone. It is shown here with the Verizon snap case. I also have an Innocase II that works. This is made using a Seidio Innocase holster. In order to use it with the phone facing out, I had to drill a hole in the top for the audio cable and Dremel the side for the USB cable. I used a coiled audio cable to keep it up and out of the way. I then ran the USB cable down the middle of that for a neat appearance.

Cost:
Innocase Holster: $21 shipped - eBay
Garmin Nuvi mount kit: $3 shipped - eBay
Panavise Xterra dash mount: $25 shipped - eBay
Right Angle USB connector: $9 shipped - Amazon

So far I am happy with the result. It is a shame we have to resort to such lengths for something that should be available..

If you want to use while attached get the xWAY.(vent mount) If you just want it to hold device get fix for mounting anywhere or the geo for vent.

Thanks- goblued. that Xway vent mount do you see any type of problem I may have with my style vent. id like to mount it about my Sat Radio-

Not sure. It looks like it will work. I will say that you will probably not be able to direct the vent. I look more at pic later. Just got out of movies.

Only issue I can see is the tab that adjusts flow. The back of the XWAY should clear it, but you may have to strategically place on different slots to get the best result.

FYI - I saw on their site that they now have a XWAY that mounts like the FIX (adhesive).

Can anyone recommend a good case to use with the Xway? I don't normally use a case with my phone but I want to get one that I can stick the Xway piece to for use in my car, then easily remove the case when I'm not in my car. I know most of you didn't want to stick the piece directly to the phone so what case are you using? Do the silicone cases work ok for this or would a hard plastic case be better?

Not to be a jerk, but there are many posts here that explain all the different cases and how to attach. Personaly, I have used on Seidio's Active and II as well as VZW Red Gel. Read through posts on how I applied.

There is a TON of info in this thread alone. Specifically all cases take the same effort to remove.

My suggestion is to put the disk on the back of your naked phone. I have taken a few off of cases and it leaves no marks. I would not want to have to remove a case that much. But if your a naked kinda person :p just throw it on there and buy another back (if you want to swap every now and then).

I know this has been talked about, but I really cannot find the best car mount for my phone. I want one that I can use Google Maps with, play music, and charge. I have seen some around, but I am nervous, and want what is best for my awesome Inc. So what is best in your opinion?

Thanks in advance!

Your going to get several solutions. I find the Tetrax is the way to go.

Here is a brief review if you have not seen already.

Just go with what you think would be good. There are opinions to most if not all solutions.
