Root [CDMA] Help with rooting Evo 3d on ICS!!!

Thanks 3vo! Although I'm just a newb myself :p.
My 3vo was the first phone I've ever rooted. Heck my first android phone was the OG evo... I didn't root it though. I kept putting off rooting for so long and just read and read over and over. Finally one day I was just ready. I only rooted a few months ago lol. I'm always learning something new. It's starting to become a hobby. There are still so many things I can't explain but I guess that's why the pro's are here!!! I'm just like you, returning the same courtesy and respect that was given to me when I had questions!

^^^^ this is the man to listen to! I'm still learning everything myself. :o I just try to help where I can. This community has given so much to me it's the least I can do to try and give back. Without people like James us N00BS would be screwed! Lol

Also are there any specific apps I shouldn't freeze that might mess with the operating system? I want to get rid off all the sprint apps and the 3D games/blockbuster app.

I couldn't name specific ones... Just be wise and don't delete any system processes. You should be able to kind of tell by the icon if it's something you shouldn't delete or freeze... The good thing about freezing though is you can always unfreeze. Unless it's possible to freeze something that would mess up your phone so bad you couldn't unfreeze it haha. But then that's why you have a nandroid backup!!!

Haha don't worry I won't delete any system apps.

This might be a dumb question, but how do you do a nandroid backup?

Didn't I already make a backup during the rooting process?

Yep! That was your nandroid backup. It literally backs up the entire state of your phone at the time of the backup... I like to do them periodically after I've added apps or changed things. I just replace my old backup with an updated as they take up a lot of space on the sd card.

It's good to make one before flashing roms etc in case something goes wrong. Then you just restore your backup and it's like nothing ever happened.

You make them by booting into recovery. You did this before via the command line using fastboot commands... This is not necessary every time. You can power down your phone. Do a battery pull and then boot into your bootloader using volume down+power. Then use volume keys to navigate to recovery. Then power to select recovery. Then just follow the recovery menus. Probably under backup/restore then you can choose to make a backup or restore a backup.

To add to the above, I would do another backup now that you are rooted... You made the backup of your unrooted phone. So at this point if something went wrong you would be restoring your unrooted stock, and would have to re-root again.

I didn't root my 3vo unfortunately I sold it before I got root savvy. ( But I sold it to a friend and he wanted me to root it. So we got it done :) I think it was you who helped me with that in another thread) I have the EVO LTE now and I rooted it a few weeks ago. I've already flashed countless roms and kernels. I even went ahead and rooted my Toshiba thrive! :) I agree it does become a hobby. And I've rooted a couple friends phones as well. But there is still so much stuff that's complete baby talk to me. Lol

Lol baby talk!! I know exactly what you mean! There's still tons that goes right over my head! I'm jelly of your LTEvo. Yep that was me who helped you in the other thread. I remember you saying it was your friends. I keep wanting to root everything. I need to fix the screen on my OG evo so I can root it and there is a little pandigital novel laying around my house that I was thinking about rooting for fun!

I want to root everything haha!!! I like that part more than flashing roms!

I got the evo3d late in the game... So when the evo lte pre orders started I was nowhere near my 2 years. Luckily I have a second line on my account, my dad,who could care less about upgrading.:D So I used his upgrade and got the ltevo. I know what you mean! Everyone I work with who has an android I try and talk them into rooting. But most of them think I'm nuts for being so into a phone. Lol. Well that's enough off topic-Ness for me. (sorry op) :p
