Lol had your heart broken over the dx too many times in the past to get excited over a vid?

Same for me except Im running Liberty.

Super excited about this. Just biding my time till it and comes out. Also, I might me MIA for a week or so. Going to NY on wed - Monday and also my landlord didn't pay the mortgage, so I have to find another place to live. What really sucks, my dad is my landlord. Sorry for off topic.

-moto firmware + kernals - etc...
-no gingerbread kernals and stuff, but cm7 can have say ice cream but not be the ice cream firmware/kernal
no such thing as "gingerbread kernel" kernels and OS versions are completely independent of each other...

For instance...CM7 is 100% gingerbread but runs off our old kernel that came with Froyo.

Yes i know, but with new OS's there are normally new kernels, what CM7 can do is run on an old kernel but have new software.

Sorry if I was being confusing.

correct...but you also said that we could get Ice Cream Sandwich, but not the ICS kernel...this is not true as there is no such thing as a ICS kernel, and never will be...just a new kernel that Moto would release along side it...

it is correct that we are stuck with at best the most recent Motorola Kernel for our phones...which would be the most recent one released with Gingerbread (although currently 2nd init does not work with the newest kernel)...and that won't change until the bootloader is unlocked/cracked...

BUT because of the breakthroughs with 2nd init it is possible that we will NOT be stuck forever with Gingerbread based roms as was originally thought...the fact that CM7 is operational on the X is proof of this...

it is theoretically possible that we will be able to get ICS for our phones in the future...provided that the dev community has not completely abandoned the X at that point (very possible)

Yep understood, thanks. I can't believe that motorola wouldn't just give us the keys to unlock the bootloader after it stops making software for the droid x.

What exactly is CM7? Is it basically just an AOSP rom?

Yes but its a true AOSP rom. Not one just themed to look aosp. Best part of this announcement is that the dx will continue to see os updates until cyanogenmod stops supporting it. With the method they are using it to install, they don't need to wait on motorola to provide the updates.

I don't know much about CM, but everybody raves about it. This is great if it's Vanilla Android. I'm starting to get excited.

Its pretty much vanilla from my understanding. But everyone is looking at this short term. Other developers could potentially use this method and maybe some of cvpcs' code and we can get more custom roms. We'll have access to more features and future android updates after motorola stops supporting it.

I was reading the guide to prepare for CM4DX over on the droidxforums and someone posted that it should be released tomorrow. No idea if he knows what hes talking about... fingers crossed. I dont see a point in preparing for CM4DX anyway... could be another week or two, or longer.

I think cvpcs said he was trying to have a beta out this week.

Edit: he said he is working on the last bug before the beta release. I expect it today.

Looks like there might be a beta out today! And, P3Droid is working on a method to sbf/auto install Cm4DX. Exciting times to be a droid.
