It's hitting Twitter that @cvpcs has done something big for the x. Unlocked bootloader here we come?

It still has a lot of work to get the stuff not working working but hopefully its complete soon.

For those of you who haven't seen this (all over twitter). CVPCS just got it done, still working on little things. HERE is the link to the forum to see it.

THANKYOU CVPCS, now raptor Jesus won't take us because we will have CM7.

What apex and any DX ROM has been (until now) has been based on the Moto stock rom but modded to remove blur etc... What this means is that we will start seeing Roms built from plain old vanilla android framework. This also means, with a whole lot of work from our amazing devs, that we could possibly see Roms based on future Android releases. This has opened yet another door for devs to build fast, clean roms based on their ideas and imagination, not on what Moto has built.

Ya gotta love our devs. I just don't understand why Moto wont give us the keys to the castle. Our devs are gonna find ways around it anyway.

But the bootloader is* locked - so it still is moto's firmware and kernals - just modded 2nd init ... right?

So yes we can have better software - but still not as good as unlocked bootloader that would allow kernals etc..

still amazing cm7 coming...

Just for clarification, what can't be achieved through the init method as opposed to unlocking the bootloader? Yeah, I know the kernel can't be changed but what features are not possible due to this limitation?

not possible - still have to have moto everything - if you mess up you need to sbf (guessing)

-moto firmware + kernals - etc...
-no gingerbread kernals and stuff, but cm7 can have say ice cream but not be the ice cream firmware/kernal

I know devs spent a lot of time trying to do this, I guess the question I'm asking is why? What will be different with cm7 being loaded on a dx as opposed to a themed rom like we have now.

- ability to have gingerbread even if moto doesnt release (which they did but look v)
-so basically when ice cream is out, we can have it
- that can then be themed ^ ... so cm7 = base, theme it with apex... etc
-CM7 features that aren't possible with just roms/themes
-lightning-fast rom
-awesomeness
-true AOSP, not just mostly or fake-AOSP

Should be some awesome new ways to brick an X now... lol
There was always some hope being held out that there would be a way to get around enough of the bootloader to do something lie this.

I'm sure we'll all brick our droids at least in a lifetime... but thats why we have sbfs... to bail us out
