Costco Nexus?

Hey all - just wanted to share that Costco appears to be getting the nexus. The three kiosk reps I talked to the other day commented that the 10th looks to be the expected arrival date and they aren't sure if there is a bionic-type bundle deal happening. They commented the RAZR looks to be having such a deal and they all seemed more jazzed over that phone. Anyone know of Costco availability for sure? Right around the corner!

I just sent a PM to a member who works for Costco in the mobile phone department, and I'll post here if/when he PM's me back.

Can someone explain to me how purchasing phones from retailers works? I have a VZ plan that I don't plan on changing. I'm grandfathered in to unlimited data, etc. Can I still buy a phone from Costco? Do they accept my available upgrades from Verizon or would I have to start a brand new VZ contract?

You can upgrade through them like normal.

Costco is great for anyone upgrading because not only do they tend to sell the phone for slightly cheaper, but they charge you tax on the upgrade price rather than the pre-subsidized price of the phone. Most retailers, like Best Buy and directly from the carrier will tax the full amount.

Example: Pretend the Galaxy Nexus is $249 with contract and $579 without. At Costco, they will only charge you tax on the $249 purchase. At Best Buy or through the carrier, they will tax you on the full $579 even though you're only paying $249 for the phone.

Now I can only say this for certain about Costco in California, but I'd imagine it's the same elsewhere.

I think the whole TAX on the retail price as opposed to the subsidized price is a California thing.

I was talking to a Best Buy person who just moved from Texas and that's what he was saying.

ugh

i was going to buy the bionic @ Costco when I was out west, but since my upgrade date is Feb 2012 i wasnt eligibal for upgrade price. Now I'm glad that plan ddnt work out, until I actually get my hands on a Prime and Razor, so i can compaer. Now the nearest Costco to me is Atlanta, and I'm not driving that far to get a phone. Costco did have the assc pack with the bionic for free whick was a killer deal.

Much appreciated. Shouldn't be long now, anyway. So many benefits to buying from Costco (bundles, lower tax, 2 year warranty).

Verizon charges tax on what you pay not full retail.

It is a california thing. Here in pa best buy and that charge tax on what you pay not how much it was full retail.

Yea - I remember paying $50 in tax on my Inc1 when that thing first came out at the VZW store here in Cali. Never got a phone directly from them since, but still get all my phone kinks worked out by them. Works out great.

so you upgrade with costco, you get the extended warranty for 2 years instead of 1?

and then does costco's return policy apply to the phone/upgrade?

and then if you have probs with the phone you can take it to a vzw store? is that what the poster above me meant with "kinks"?

So I got a response to my PM from YankeeDudeL, who works for Costco. It is as follows:

Hey there. I'm not sure of the date, but I can tell you we will def be carrying the Nexus. I don't know the date or the price, but I do know that it will be a Home Delivery phone ONLY. Meaning you will have to order it in store and have it shipped to your house, which generally takes about 3 business days.

I may have to make my way to the forum for anyone with questions. :)

Must be a California thing because here you only pay tax on what you pay for the phone.

I'm guessing people at Costco can't upgrade you early like how Verizon store managers can?

No they cant but you can call and try to get the early upgrade and if they agree tell the rep you will be purchasing in the next day or so. Then you can go to any retailer and when they check your account it will show as upgrade eligable.

Speaking of upgrades, from my understanding, I get a 20% discount on my monthly bill from where I work. Now, I have never done this but someone told me that means at Verizon I also get 20% off the upgrade price when I do indeed upgrade at the subsidized "new" 2 year contract price.

Is this correct?

And if so, how does THAT apply to costco? 20% off there as well? 20% off bundles?

Pretty sure you have to be done with your 2 year contract to upgrade with Costco. I have my NE2 up and they said I wasn't available for the upgrade price, I showed them that I have two upgrades and they said that I needed to be out of my contract to be eligible.

Also, these phones are NOT being sold from Costco, they are a third party retailer who leases the Kiosk from Costco so I am not sure if they are all the same. Still a great deal from them as well. They have a great return policy but if you return a phone after the 14 days (they allow that there) you get money back but lose your upgrade.

You have 90 days to return the phone. I'm pretty sure that after 14 days they can't restore your upgrade...however they will sell you another phone at upgrade price. I've had a thunderbolt, charge and now a bionic on the same upgrade from costco. And I have till mid december to return the bionic so I'll be returning it for a Nexus...(and hopefully my last exchange). The only problem with the home delivery thing is not having a phone for a couple days till it gets delivered.

I am probably moving to California next summer, that is one of the many things I am not looking forward to. There is a lot I am looking forward to, like the weather though

Nice! Hopefully you will enjoy the stay. What area will you be moving to?
