Root [CWM][New Clockworkmod]-Fixed No 2min reboot

Hey mav, just an idea for a future release...

I've seen on other recoveries an "advanced backup" as well, where it let you choose what all to backup, and name it right then and there, instead of having to create the backup, and go back and rename it with some sort of file explorer.

1 problem and 1 question.
If I install this to root my phone, can I install and use a custom rom on it later?
And I downloaded it the file from the second post, but every time I try to do the terminal codes and I type in su and press enter, it tells me "su:not found" any help would be great since im kind of new at this.

su is not found because you need root first. you cannot use the second method if you are not rooted...

you need to use the odin method.. then you need to use CWM in order to flash a custom rom or someones rooted backup in order to get root

okay so i didnt have the previous cwm, so i tried it the odin way - didnt work
so i tried it with the terminal emulator; didnt work. it says "cannot open for write: permission denied"

what am i doing wrong? any help appreciated :)

I've only been successful with the ODIN option:

CWM_Odin_pkg.zip
2. unzip it
3. Install samsung drivers if you don't have them already
4. open the Odin.exe in the folder
5. hit the "OPS" button and select the TransformUltra.ops file from the folder
6. select the "One Package" Button and select the build7.tar.md5 from the folder
Should look like this:
mavrikmeercat-albums-support-picture6577-cwmodin.jpg

7. now put your phone into download mode (Vol down + camera + power)
8. plugin your phone and the yellow COM should light up

Now pay attention here

9. as soon as you hit start, remove the battery and data wire from the phone
10. wait until Odin finishes and shuts off the phone
11. put the battery back in the phone and boot strait into recovery
If you miss recovery, pull the battery before it boots and try again. If it does boot all the way into android, it will overwrite cwm with your stock recovery and you will have to flash it again..[/QUOTE]

I added the remove the data wire part because the phone will go into charge mode and it makes it really frustrating when trying to boot into cwm recovery without it screwing up.

Just follow that step by step and that will work.

Im getting a few error messeges in recovery , any suggestions?

E:cant find misc
E:cant mount /cache/recovery/command
E:cant find misc
E:cant find misc

I suggest enjoying cwm :-P those are all normal errors for this phone and will not effect it in anyway

Hi All,

It looks like I'm a little late to the game here. I lost root after updating to 2.3.6. Can someone confirm these instructions are to root the phone?

Also, I have tried following these instructions but when I pull the battery immediately after hitting start, the phone turns off. I have tried allowing Odin to finish with the download manager and then pulling the battery but there does not seem to be any difference.

How do you know when the flash has been done properly?

Thanks,

Dkr.

Go here and follow step for step ----> http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?p=5209639

Thanks for the response. I have followed these instructions several times to no avail. One thing I don't understand is that it starts with:

"First you need to be rooted."

I was under the impression these instructions were to root the device. Am I mistaken here?

Thanks,

Dkr.

This is how you become rooted. If you follow instructions to the "T".

LOL I just seen that.... Those were instructions that pertain to something else. Sorry. But the rest of it is what your looking for.... Again my mistake...

This may help, although the instructions are misleading a little by telling you to
pull the battery right after hitting Start, what you actually should be doing is hitting start waiting for the flash to do it's thing, as soon as you see the screen shut off, pull the usb cable and the battery, now you can put the battery back in, press and hold camera + VOLUME DOWN + POWER until you see the backlit hard keys light up, you should now be in CWM...

everything good, just skip press and hold (camera ) ...if you press an hold camera as well as power and volume down you will go into download mode ...

so, follow slayer instructions skipping camera but pressing and holding volume down + power, now you should be on CWM... lol

New (fixed) CWM for Samsung Transform Ultra

I sought out some experience on this issue so I personally did not build this. The person responsible for building it is utkanos over in the rootzwiki forums. This guy has ported CWM to over 30+ devices and that is why I sought him out.
So thank him..

What I did was:
search for some one who could help us
asked him for his help
explained what our issues were
provided him with all the files, data dumps, and stuff he needed for building.

If you find an issue about the build and would like to report it, or ask him to make a change, he made a place for that here
All how-to's like installing and such please post here. If you would like to, you can post problems here and I will look into it further and work with utkanos personally

utkanos has uploaded this build source to his github. If you would like to view or download the source it's here

If you would like to make a donation to the developer, you can email him at utkanos@gmail.com

People we should also thank:

Interdpth For giving us the first clockworkmod, giving us root, for devoting his time and figuring out this very hard device

Bads3ctor for figuring out the problematic issue with rmt_storage and posting his results from testing

Chevanlol360 for testing, reporting, risking his phone, confirming things, and contributing his time.

Loota for testing and allowing me to teamview his computer and do some testing of my own while my TU is at samsung getting unbricked

Hey could you guys possible help out over at the kyocera hydro all things root trying to get CWM going but not to much progress

We probably could if any one of us had a Hydro, but it would be kinda difficult to help with something when you don't have the main ingredient, know what I mean Vern?? lol :p

Lmao yeah I know what you mean I've been trying to figure it out but not to good so far. Trying to figure out how to emulate the phone. So I could miss around I think chev is trying to help.

Will the terminal emulator way work for ANY phone???

The method will work but you must not flash to the same partition on another device. The partition for recovery on the TU is /dev/block/mmcblk0p13. On a defferent device, that partition will certainly be different. Find out what that devices recovery partition is and use the commands accordingly. Don't try to just run the command for the TU. You will end up wit a papper weight.

Ok cool. A friend asked me.... I'll just show him where to go 4 his fone. Thought it could be universal and I wasn't bout 2 look thru the forums 4 a fone I dont have.

So, I'm trying to look through these forums, and they keep pointing me back here to start. I am new to this, so excuse my ignorance.

I have a new phone basically, unrooted and am starting from scratch. When doing the first step listed here, I try to install the newest recovery and get "signature verification failed" after trying to update from sdcard. Any thoughts/ideas?

  1. Welcome to the forums. :D
  2. No worries on the noob status. :) Anyone who tries to deny they were ever a noob themselves and doesn't work for Google is lying. ;)
  3. Since your phone is what I like to call "out-of-the-box stock", you'll have to use the Odin instructions. The zip files available here were never meant to work with Android Recovery (the stock recovery program that is already on the phone).

If you have any other questions or concerns, let us know. :)

i can do all of the steps but for what ever reason I cannot select TransformUltra.ops and get it to appear in the OPS form right of the button? what am I supposed to enter here? Thanks for all of your help.

First, I apologize if my help comes off as condescending...I'm not meaning to, I just want to make sure we cover all the bases. :) Now, with that out of the way:
1. Are you using Windows or Linux, and what version?
2. Did you extract the CWM_Odin.zip before running the program?
3. If you extracted it, how did you extract? Did you right-click and select an option, or did you run an extraction program? If you ran a program, what one and with what options?
4. Did you move any of the files after extracting the zip?

And now a few possible solutions to the above problems:

1. Windows: Continue to solution #2. Linux: To my knowledge, Odin won't work on Linux. The program runs fine with wine, but it fails to recognize when the phone is connected. On the other hand, I'm only functional on Linux, so I could be wrong. :p
2. The files need to be extracted in order to work correctly. On Windows XP, the easiest way is to right-click the CWM_Odin.zip and select "Extract here" or a similar option. I believe it's the same on Windows 7, but someone who has it on their machine will have to verify for me.
3. Depending on what method and what program you used, the files may have ended up in different locations. If that's the case, you may have to dig a little and find out where the OPS ended up.
4. Best to keep everything in one spot. ;) It won't hurt anything to move the files around, but it's easier to find what you need if it's in the same folder as the Odin program.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes. :)
