Root CyanogenMod 7 Unofficial Beta 5 02/20/12

Glad you like it. This is the best setup I've found for CM7. Like WyElkins mentioned above, the S2E app has came a long way since last year. It's alot more stable than it used to be. Nice huh? :D:D

If you decide to run themes, you don't have to worry about them making your phone lag anymore either. That was a huge plus for me.;)

I don't know this for a fact but it may be that all the work done by folks like Hroark and Kouma on sd-ext kernels may have prompted the dev of S2E to up his game.

I don't know but the Developer sure did a good job when he updated the app. It runs flawlessly.

Code:
So wetbiker, im thinking of putting cm7 with s2e setup on the wifes prevail and i was wondering how did you partition the sd? Did you just make one ext4 or did you make an equal swap and convert it to ext4 as well for dalvik. Or does it just move dalvik over to just the one ext? Or, did you not move dalvik at all? Im trying to get the best results for her cuz she runs a bunch of apps and her phone is so freaking laggy. Way more than mine is.

You check the box of what you want moved, it all goes to one partition.

Edit-it will be much snapper without checking /data/data

Thanks for answering LV.

Yes, you only need to make 1 partition in CWM. It's really easy to use. I think you'll like it and see a big difference.

Data/data can be used but the phone will not be as responsive. The space it saves on your internal when you use data/data is not worth the lag it can cause IMO.

I switched to S2E because I liked to run a lot of different themes on CM7. Unfortunately, themes tend to slow down the phone when using the ext. version of the kernel. S2E solved that problem for me and almost totally did away with all lag when using CM7.

Post back and let us know what you think.:D

Now........ where was I??? Oh yeah..... totally redoing my Marquee from scratch. I just can't seem to leave well enough alone. lol.... :D:D:D

Good thing I'm almost done. I have a feeling the changes I've made are gonna help out and make it even faster than it already is.

I love CTMod but miss my CM7. By the looks of things over in the Marquee section, we'll have a working version of CM9 before long. Those guys have made a lot of progress in the past few weeks. I'm looking forward to trying it out once some more of the bugs are worked out. ;)

You're not around these parts as much as you used to. Didn't wanna leave him hangin too long. (plus it's becoming a ghost town over here.) And i agree that the Marquee is pretty sweet. I get to play with one from time to time. much better with ctmod... There is some nice development over there... But for now, with my limited summer budget, all i can say is

VIVA LA PREVAIL! :)

Dude, imagine what it's gonna be like when Boost releases all the new phones!

Even though I've moved on, I'll always be partial to the Prevail. We were the first to come in and pave the way for the Boost Android phones. Look how far we've came since ShabbyMod. :D
Also, I still play with the Prevail. I sold it to a buddy of mine and I always keep him hooked up with the newest stuff. He loves the phone. I set him up with cm7 and S2E. Matter of fact, I just got him a 16gb class 10 sd card yesterday and will install it when it comes in. Ordered him 6 anti-glare screen protectors too. He switched over from a BlackBerry and isn't looking back. He's hooked on Android now. Lol

Yep. I am starting to Lust in my Heart, ala Jimmy Carter, over a new phone but not really very much.

Can't afford a new phone at the moment and I dread losing the $35 plan even if I could. I am frugal by circumstances but also by nature so I will probably ride out the Prevail until it dies.

I am still learning new stuff every day anyway and really see no Killer Apps that I want that will not run on the Prevail.

I predicted that there would be an Exodus to other phones but thought it would have happened sooner.

That is a real tribute to this Forum and all the people that have made it great.

Long Live the Prevail!

your right wetbiker, it's much faster now. she still has a problem with draw something cuz it's a very demading app and has constant running services for notifs when its your turn. plus she runs words with freinds, and scramble with friends. I think those constant running services are killing her ram or one of them is just causing a memory leak. I had to put a task killer on the phone and told her to kill after she closes the games but the system is real fast now! I set the transitions to fast in spare parts and tweaked setcpu to 888mhz/deadline/smartassv2 and it's exceptional now. I had alot of problems with it with CTMod. even earlier versions

By far the best setup yet! thanks wetbiker, LordVincent, wyelkins

A good app to use for the apps that like to run in the background is Titanium. Just use Titanium to FREEZE the bothersome app. When she wants to use it again, just go back in to Titanium and hit DEFROST. Works like a charm. I use it to FREEZE FaceBook all the time. :D

Forgot to mention setting the transitions to fast. OOPS. :p

Glad that you like it. I have a feeling that once this gets out and everyone starts seeing what a big improvement that it makes that they will switch over to this configuration. IMO, it's the best way to go. ;)

OHHHH!! One more thing. Try an app called FastReboot. It reboots all of your apps without turning the phone off. That was how I freed up my RAM when I noticed it was getting low.

lol i know about titanium man but thanks. I've been running the pro version for about a year now. I've been using cm7 exclusively since hroark's first build. I know our cm7 UI inside and out. thanks for sharing your findings with s2e. I had never used it. I been around with a rooted prevail a week after interdpth found root and ran every one of shabby's versions, kernels, including hroark's kernel. i ran the wife's on ct exclusively since blood started it. Been arround these parts for quite a while now and your right LV, this is where boost android mods started and I'm just glad to be some part of that. wish i could have contributed more to the prevail but it's just now that I have enough knowledge to really develop for android so i'm a bit late here at home but i have contributed quite a bit to the Transform Ultra and continue to. chevan and I have a partnership as a themer(chevanlol360) and a source dev(me) to have a largly downloaded rom over there. mostly everything I have learned/ am learning, comes from these amazing devs here. Hroark has tought me a lot. directly or indirectly

Thanks again and thanks for the tip for fastreboot I'm gonna try it right now

LOL...... :p. I figured that you probably knew about Titanium but I've taken people knowing things like that for granted in the past and quite a few times some of the people actually didn't know. Oh well, maybe someone will come along, read it and learn something. :D :tomato:

Oh, I was the one who mentioned that this was the place where Boost Android mods started, not LV. Just sayin' LOL!! :p:p:p

Damn LV, why people always given you the credit man???? :bawling::o

Ya know, I'm really glad that I found this site because I've met a bunch of great people here. Present company included, Mavrik. It's been a lot of fun seeing this Prevail come as far as it has over the past year. Not only have I learned alot but I've also met quite a few good friends along the way. :)

As LV said, you will lose all your apps. I always start fresh when installing S2E.

1)Install CM7
2) Partition sd card
3)Factory reset.
4)Install kernel
5)Install S2E and set it up. After install, go in to setting and check all boxes.
6)Reboot, open up S2E and check all boxes except data/data. You can check it if you would like but I find it runs better when it's not checked.
7) Install apps.
8)You now have 1 bad ass, fast as heck phone that will not get updates.
Will this setup with S2E work with the JoyOSMod?its a CM7 base from what i understand, but when i flashed the no ext katokernel, the only box checkable was /cache/download.:/

LV will have to help you out on that 1 man. I'm on the Marquee now and didn't get a chance to try it on that ROM.
If anyone will know about it, he will. ;)

The card needs to be partitioned AFTER you flash the kernel.

Hi,

I have a 2nd, unactivated Prevail which I use to play around and try out things. However, I am stuck, since I need a copy of the latest app S2E, since I cannot download it from the market.

Anyone has a copy and can e-mail it to me ? I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

vce

If you have the s2e app on your activated phone... you could just copy the apk from that phone and install it on the other phone via SD card...

Well, I thought of that, but I run CTMod on my activated phone and don't wanna screw up anything, so I didn't install it there....... I just see if someone can mail me a copy to be safe.....

Thanks anyway....
