Root CyanogenMod 7 Unofficial Beta 5 02/20/12

Has anyone tested out the new setting under performance called compcache ram usage?

It's compresses memory for increased capacity...

Just set it to the highest... Well report back with results..

ntfs is more difficult for android to read and write, fat32 is the normal format for removable media.

Well, its 16gb and I have no idea what I might store on my phone but there is the possibility that with 14gb I could end up with something over 4gb hence NTFS due to Fat32s 4gb file limit.

I also enabled the ram compression thing and I seem to have more free. Pretty cool little feature, have ~90mb free almost all the time. Currently at 105 free, it really does seem to improve the phone, although, the one thing I have a problem with is when I hit end on a call it is either unresponsive or lags like crazy till it ends the call. Sometimes it screws up and just keeps making a noise till I restart it. Anyone know what that's about?

EDIT: WOW!!! My phone is roaming, well was for a second, I made a call to see what it would do and...... "if you would like to make a collect call to a landline or mobile phone press 1 now, calling card press 2, press 3 for using debit card" or something like that, didn't really care after it didn't work, guess I will turn that setting off lol

I have to ask. I see that mms/sms doesn't work while on wifi, does that mean when the wifi driver is running or only when actually connected to wifi? To simplify the question, if I'm using wifi tether will I still be able to send/recieve mms/sms or no?

I'm in the process of downloading this now to give it my first try, been on ctmod 2.5 for a while now and finally decided it's time to try out CM since I had to start my phone fresh again because it decided to bootloop on me.

oh and:
+free bump :P

It only happens if your connected to an actual network. Having WIFI on in the scan state won't affect your MMS as the 3G will do it for you.

I've been waiting for this to get resolved for some time. It looked hopeful at one point in previous posts as some people were trying to figure out the cause. Something to do with the interface card not existing when the request is made. So it's sent to null or something.

Either way it's still a great mod. Just hope this issue gets fixed eventually ;)

Great mod my ass, this is a wicked mod :P I wish I hadn't held off for so long. CTMod from stock seemed like a speed increase but compared to CT this snaps. I can deal with the mms/sms issue because I VERY rarely use wifi other than wifi tethering (which I use a lot[which is why I had to ask]) and because I rarely text anyway.

I hope the issue gets sorted out for those that do use it a lot such as yourself and just so hroark can say, hey, no issues anymore. :P Thanks for the quick reply too btw.
:D

Quadrant score 1407.....is that good? I think ive seen scores posted as high as 2000, is there anything I can do to increase my score?

Yes it works with FA19, its been tested by myself and others. Part of it is last BB was going from Froyo to GB IIRC so they seem to be a bit different. Hopefully this means Samsung will update our rom at some point again.

Im looking to buy a larger faster SD card this weekend....once i get the new card, do I just need to partition the SD card again and im good to go? or do i need to reinstall the data to ext kernel as well?

BY the way THANK YOU all for all the help these past few days!:D

Tested CM7b5 w/ FA19 baseband all day today. I installed all the removed apps as well as TeleNav from the stock ROM. I then installed the Swype beta keyboard. So far, everything is working smoothly. I opted for the map fixed kernel using sd-ext. I have a 8GB Class 10 card with a 512MB partition.

So I'm running an older version of CM7 and want to do a fresh start. I'm going to be doing some fresh start tests on a couple of things including Kourma's new 1.5 kernel with CTMOD. I already tested it on a working phone but would like to do some fresh starts to make sure things are working as they should. This includes updating my older CM7 install.

Anyways I just want to make sure I get this right for CM7 mod since it's been some time.

Please let me know if any of these steps are incorrect.

  1. FA19 Gingerbread Rooted Image with CWM5 by Koumajutsu -----> PREVAIL_M820_FA19_Rooted_CWM MD5Sum: 97b46a074e228b9daeca95a2c80715b4
  2. Download latest CM7 mod from Hoark. cm-7-HROARK-beta5.zip ------> http://www.mediafire.com/?5i59286qgqxw8c0
  3. Download the latest hotfix. MAPS FIX CyanogenMod 7 Unofficial Beta 5 02/20/12
  4. Use ODIN from the FA19 download to ODIN your prevail to FA19
  5. Install cm-7-HROARK-beta5.zip using 'Install Zip from SD' from within CWM5.
  6. Install the Hotfix for Maps using 'Install Zip from SD' from within CWM5.

Now I think the above steps should be correct. The only part that I think is optional (because I'm not sure incorporated yet into the build) is the kernel version you can use. It's my understanding that there are two you can pick from.

  1. If you want /data to be on your SD-EXT then you have to have a partition on your SD Card. Then download mapfixkrnl-ext.zip and put it on your SD Card. Install it from CWM5 using 'Install Zip from SD'.
  2. You DON'T want SD-EXT but you want to have the /data mounted on the internal stl13, then you need to download mapfixkrnl-no-ext.zip and put it on your SD Card. Install it from CWM5 using 'Install Zip from SD'.

I think that should cover it. I could be wrong though and hopefully I want to get it working right before I upgrade my CM7 version. Please let me know if the above steps are correct.

Some of the instructions on the first post can be a bit confusing.

everything looks pretty good, but... there is no need to download or install the CWM 5.0.2.7 update fix, it's already in the FA19 update.

I'm running the sd-ex kernel and let me tell you... it's FAST :D

but that's my opinion...:)

I went through all your steps you posted except for applying the 5027 fix based on the response from Guspeed. The HRoark failed to install for some reason. However, the map fix did install.

Now my phone just sits on the Android boot screen. Hmmm....

UPDATE!! Ok, I decided to try the install HRoark again and it worked the second time! Sweet!

Thanks a bunch!

after flashing the kernel "if" the phone does the sitting screen again , go to CWM and do a factory reset, it will fix it, happen to me once also. :)

Ok I have found that if you are using the sd-ext kernel and have to reflash for any reason (maybe to change prl) if you leave that partition intact, when you re install your cm7b5 all your apps and settings will still be there... I didnt have to open titanium backup...

I did notice that my font and boot animation changed back to stock... and am still testing to see what else has reverted

EDIT: I did have to reinsall the system apps that hroark took out of the build i.e. gmail and theme chooser.

BTW: I am not recommending this.. just saying it is possible

I'm pretty satisfied with CM7b5. One annoyance is that unlike stock/CTMod, bluetooth audio controls don't work. Phone and its controls (answer, dial, etc) work fine. However audio controls (play/pause, previous, next) don't do anything. Anyone experience this as well? Any setting/fix I'm missing.
