Root CyanogenMod 7 Unofficial Beta 5 02/20/12

works fine for me too... the only little thing that bugs me is the notifications freezing when you slide them... other then that, I'm lovin it...

Works fine for me... i do have voice search & dialer installed tho....

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked and I have both Voice Dialer 2.3.7 and Voice Search 2.1.4 installed.

Seeing nothing similar here, I looked at the CTMod thread. Some had the same problem with MIUI Music and so they reinstalled the stock Music app to fix it. But looking on my phone, it seems that CM7b5 does have the stock Music app (2.3.7)... so it doesn't appear to be that either.

My car stereo bluetooth module is a KS-BTA100 if that is of any interest/help.

Thinking about it, I tested with the Google Listen app (podcasts). I will test with the music player as well.

Thanks for the responses guys. I've gone ahead and made the modifications to the steps and removed the 5027 update for CWM5. Okay if all is good then it should be something like this.

  1. FA19 Gingerbread Rooted Image with CWM5 by Koumajutsu -----> PREVAIL_M820_FA19_Rooted_CWM MD5Sum: 97b46a074e228b9daeca95a2c80715b4
  2. Download latest CM7 mod from Hoark. cm-7-HROARK-beta5.zip ------> http://www.mediafire.com/?5i59286qgqxw8c0
  3. Download the latest hotfix. MAPS FIX CyanogenMod 7 Unofficial Beta 5 02/20/12
  4. Use ODIN from the FA19 download to ODIN your prevail to FA19
  5. Install cm-7-HROARK-beta5.zip using 'Install Zip from SD' from within CWM5.
  6. Install the Hotfix for Maps using 'Install Zip from SD' from within CWM5.

Now I think the above steps should be correct. The only part that I think is optional (because I'm not sure incorporated yet into the build) is the kernel version you can use. It's my understanding that there are two you can pick from.

  1. If you want /data to be on your SD-EXT then you have to have a partition on your SD Card. Then download mapfixkrnl-ext.zip and put it on your SD Card. Install it from CWM5 using 'Install Zip from SD'.
  2. You DON'T want SD-EXT but you want to have the /data mounted on the internal stl13, then you need to download mapfixkrnl-no-ext.zip and put it on your SD Card. Install it from CWM5 using 'Install Zip from SD'.

Thanks again for the feedback. I should be able to update my version of CM7 now. Before I do that though going to do the kourma1.5 update fresh and test that out for Kourma.

DEEZAM! I just installed CM7.1 beta5 last night. This rom has more options than a chinese takeout menu. And I didnt even install ADW EX yet. Holy crap on a cracker:)

PS- Where can I find info for themes for the CM7 rom?

Yeah I know what you mean. That is part of the reason I prefer CM over other ROMS. Getting ADW EX back on is a breeze, though Zeam is nice if you like a minimumlist UI. Tons of CM7 themes are here [UPDATE 12-14-11] Theme Chooser Themes - Over 300 Themes! - xda-developers. The Prevail is a MDPI device. Some of the HDPI themes might work but expect issues. As stated in previous posts, you will need apkinstaller to put themechooser back into CM7.1b5.

yeah, this has definitely started to come together for this developement. I finally decided to give it a shot and put it on last night. Besides the mentioned problems, which I can live with, this is a very nice smooth running ROM. Look forward to seeing it work its way towards its maximum.

:)

Thanks!

I am selling one prevail and want to keep CM7 on it for the next owner I was just wondering if anyone knows how to make it so it will do the over the air activation since there is no way to access the hidden menu...or some way/program to access the hidden menu while on CM7 to be able to reset and trigger the normal new phone activation.

Edit: Can't get the activation process to initiate at all while on CM7 just flashing to stock or CTMod 2.5 brings up the activation.

So anyone selling a phone will have to go back to stock or a more GB based Rom.

^ I'm pretty sure that if the person you sell the phone to is already a Boost user, they can just log on to "My Account" through the Boost website and "update handset" without bothering to go through the activation process.

I have confirmed that the Bluetooth controls work fine for Music. Just weird how it used to work for Listen as well. But no matter. I'll live with it.

, strangest thing started happening to me... GPS completely stopped working... Would not lock on... (crude nbl worked but not accurate enough for navigation... (at one point it said i was in the Indian Ocean  )
I solved it, however, by reflashing the mapsfix kernel and all seems well now... Just can't figure out what it could have been... Also, the phone got considerably hot with GPS turned on...

You need to install Flashplayer for your browser . Also , Facebook takes some time to load on mine . I'm running CM7 at the moment . When the screen pops up and asks if I wanna close it , I just tap wait . Even though I choose not to sync my contacts , it looks like it still does and this slows it down when loading . After the sync icon is gone from the status bar , it runs fine .

This is the link to the thread w/ Flashplayer :

When I usually have GPS issues on any mod like CTMOD or CM mod, I usually perform these steps and it fixes my issues.

  1. Download FasterFix from the Android Market Place.
  2. Run FasterFix and set your time pool to your country. Example: I set mine to North America. Then press Apply. You only need to do this once folks.
  3. Uninstall FasterFix
  4. Download GPSFix from the Android Market Place.
  5. Run GPSFix and place the android on a flat surface for a few minutes. Like a table or something. Make sure it has good reception for the GPS.
  6. Let it do it's single and dance until it's done. When it's done click on 'Start Fixing' again. The goal is to make the app Fix the location as quickly and instantly as possible.
  7. Eventually it will fix the location pretty much instantly the moment you hit 'Start'. When you get to this point your done.
  8. Uninstall GPSFix

Congrats your GPS has been fine tuned and now works flawlessly. I've done this every time I've ODIN'ed my phone and installed a mod from scratch. This includes countless versions of CTMOD and CM. t works for me every time.

Enjoy!

Thanks. I used that before as well... But in this case the gps icon wouldn't even pop in notifications, like there was no gps...

In my case, if my GPS icon isn't working and not showing in the notification area, it's because I forgot to select 'Use Internal GPS' under 'Location and Security', 'GPS Source', in the Settings. I always forget about it after I restore my phone, until I need to use the GPS.
