Desire HD Battery Thread

About the display using 60%, I consider this a good thing.

Unless your screen is set to super high brightness, it means that there is nothing else (apps, wifi, etc) draining the battery.

Yesterday Sync got stuck trying to update itself, and the usage became 60% for Android OS with Battery down to 20%, leading to my battery lasting only a few hours.

Generally my display usage is 70%, and battery lasts 24 hours.

sorry it was last charged 23 hours again just about going still

im in power save mode so maybe thats why its still running

so 24hrs doesnt seem to look too bad for usage then generally

What are you email apps etc set as, how often to sync?

How to you get the phone to rotate the screen without the accelerator on?

everything is set to default sync

sorry havent got any stats yet just wondering how many apps do people have runnin at any one time

i seem to be having a problem with the battery and jsut wondering if its the apps that are draining it as i have have all auto sync and wifi switched off

my Taskiller kills all apps when the screen is off :)

so general opinion is really that the battery isn't bad for the phone all things considered.

Uptime Length: 10 hours
Accellerator: On
3G Or 2G: 3G
Wireless: On
GPS: On
Automatic Brightness: Yes

what app killer is that mate, or do all of them have an option to close them when you turn off the screen?

Hey chaps

For you nice folks who posted your usage stats in the suggested template form, has the very latest (second so far I think) software update made any difference to battery life?

I know it wasn't released with any statements about power consumption, but I've read there have been some UI response improvements, wondering if there's a knock on effect for battery use...

Not noticed any, possibly because I was still running the battery in when I installed it.

I've had the same 24 hours of battery for a few days now

Uptime Length: 2 days
Accellerator: On
3G Or 2G: 2G most of the time (switched to 3G when on the go, then off again, im pretty sure 3G is the biggest drain?)

GPS: On
Automatic Brightness: Yes

I received my Desire HD last week and have been using it since. I am confused as to where this notion that the Desire HD and indeed Android phones in general dont have a very long battery life. In my experience all smartphones drain battery fast depending on how you use your phone.
This week my battery has lasted 2 days using the above and FB/Twiiter 2hr updates, exchange sync every 30mins, weather updates every 2hrs ,Gmail sending & receiving, 30-60mins of video and 30-60mins of audio.
Now for me this is an excellent battery life! Before I had an iPhone 3G doing the same kind of things and the battery would last a day, if that, that is double the life! I dont have a 4G but a colleague at work seems to have his on charge at least every other day.

So all in all battery life is good the phone & screen are awesome and Android(my first time using it) is a great OS. lots you can do, customise and install. And does everything my Iphone did :D

I keep reading on here about using Task Killers to try and improve battery life, but reading around the web, task killers are not required in 2.2, in fact, it might actually cause battery drain.

This is one example of what I mean

FAQ: Why You Shouldn

I agree with the above. There does seem to be some contradiction with the information on this forum about Task killers, and what I read elsewhere on other forums etc.

It may be just me and my novice approach to android but after originally installing and using a task killer I was experiencing problems with lag and reduced battery, and since removing said app, the OS performed like the day I got it, and works like a dream now., but maybe this was due to installing the new update?

Can we get some clarification from some more experienced users on this situation. Just because 2.1 and before needed task killers, it doesn't mean there are required now... or does it???

i wish i could get mine to last 2 days -i did the same as everything my iphone did but for some reason it lasted longer which is strange maybe my battery isnt so good?

today im on 20% battery:-

uptime-20 hours
accerlator-on
auto brightness-on
3g-was on about half of yesterday then switched off
wireless -on
gps-off

I'm sure you've all seen the thread about extending Desire Battery Life (cant remember original source, but here is the same text [HOW TO] Calibrate Desire Battery - xda-developers).

But it doesnt work, because after turning off, and putting on charge, the light goes instantly green.

I tried this again, this morning but again it went instantly to green. When I tried turning it on, it froze, so pulled out the battery. When I put it back in again...

ORANGE LIGHT

I only had time to do the following once, but I've already got an extra 15% battery left compared to the same time yesterday:

Charge, unplug, Turn off, remove battery, replace battery, charge, unplug, turn on

I'm going to do it properly tonight (3 or 4 times) because from the results of doing it once, I'm already seeing a huge improvement

I was going to post the same as Sonesh (also see ... AndroidSPIN Double Your Battery Life on HTC Droid Incredible, Sprint EVO, Google Nexus One and Possibly Others! ). I tried it last night/this morning and my battery light stayed green after unplugging/plugging-in again. Didn't try removing the battery though but did the rest of the sequence. Maybe the *turning off/on* should read *remove battery* for the HD as *powering off* just puts it into hibernation.

I'll try that before the end of the week.

Maybe it would be nice if everyone wrote which microSD card they're using (brand, class, capacity). Maybe it has something to do with the battery drain as well.

Man, so frustrated reading this thread. Cant get to the end of the work day without battery going flat even with minimal usage, let alone 24 or 48 hours as some people have said. Display usage eats 65% of battery and its turned down to 30% If I spend a lot of time on it it can be dead after 4 or 5 hours.

Must be faulty as I have had it two weeks now and there are no signs of improvement

mine hasnt been that bad sjd but not too much better with use all day i can get about 10 hours out of it even not doing anything now i cant get a full day like i did last week

dont know if they would except it as a fault though

Well... i m reall are very dissapointed with my DESIRE HDs's battery performance.
Like i said before i come from an Iphone which i used daily -.-
I am used to listen to music at school with my phone ( from like 8am-2pm) and never had problems ( could last 2 days without charging ) But with the Desire HD i cant go a day with the battery sinking to half.. like seriously wtf.. its 99% of the time on idle... i change songs with the thingy in headphones.. and i have everything off ( wifi, 3g, mobile data etc )

Seriously this is a big dissapointment.... i think i m gonna get it back to the store and see if i can get my money back.
I looked forward to this phone but the battery life really is a big issue.
