Desire HD Battery Thread

Well I've changed the settings in Fancy Widget to once a day as opposed to every 6 hours refresh, plus I've set it to update when unlock

Other than that can't see why it would account for such a high proportion of battery use.

Any views on whether it was friendstream that took all the power, used to like that widget. Vastly improved battery life since I removed it though, I can live without it

Like I mentioned in my previous post , my battery life has transformed since installing the OTA update . This is with friendstream on & syncing every 2hrs:D:D:D:D:D:D

Thanks, perhaps me tweaking all my settings coinciding with the update has done some good.

Before my battery was dead by the afternoon (after getting up at 4.30) and that was just on standby

My battery performance vastly improved since the OTA. I'm currently at 51% battery, and I just checked the stats, and its been unplugged for 17hrs 38min. Before the OTA it would have needed to be back on the charger already (well at least with the use I had in the last 10hrs). Before the OTA if I didn't charge it with the use I had, it would have been down to around 10% by now. I'm very happy. BTW - The only thing I don't have auto-syncing is HTC sense. Everything else is set to 1 hour. :D

For battery calibration

1. Use the Desire HD until the battery totally flat and auto off.
2. Turn it ON and Charge for 8 hours or more.
3. Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour.
4. Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour.
5. Use the Desire HD until the battery totally flat and auto off.
6. Turn it ON and Charge until full (NO NEED to charge for 8 hours again).

My phone has been disconnected from charger for 25 mind and I'm down to 93% battery. Does that sound normal??

I feel totally dejected at the moment.

Phone came on Weds, and I'm really trying to remain positive and think it'll get better, but I'm not convinced.

So far I have downloaded very little in the way of apps etc, I've switched off 3G and wireless when not browsing, screen is dim etc etc and yet I have still lost 15% battery in roughly 45mins - played a little on alchemy and sent one whole sms.

Even tried the power up, charge, switch off, charge etc etc etc

I am not a battery expert or a mobile expert, but I've spent all day reading up on it (more like 3 days).

I don't expect it to last weeks, my old blackberry would need charging every night - but I want it to last at least a full day (morning to bedtime) with me being able to browse, play and send a few txts/calls etc.

Proper gutted at the moment - because i actually LOVE the phone otherwise.

Why does the battery life seem so inconsistent - ie, some people get a few hrs, some people claims to get 1.5 days etc?

Not sure what else to try - or will it get better with time? I have till Weds before I am stuck with it, and I'm really considering changing at this present moment - and I don't want to really!!!!

eta - battery seems to be eaten up by display... if it's any dimmer I won't be able to see it!!! Any advice?

Just lost 1% battery typing this :( (phone is next to me)

When I first got the phone I had awful battery drain and random lag due to the /init bug discussed : here

Try this:
On your phone go to..

Menu/settings/applications/development/now turn on Usb debugging.

That should fix the lag you mentioned and help with your battery woes.

I did the debugging thing (told you I've been reading up up :D).

Ok, feeling less like throwing it down a toilet today. I switched mobile off when I went to bed (not the phone just mobile net), figured I don't need it on when sleeping, and the battery remained the same (ish) till I woke. Not bad.

Woke this morning, played for a while on it (alchemy is addictive). Sent a few txts, looked on google etc.

Battery is at 60% (so down about 15%).

Feeling a little more positive, but we'll see how it fares to the end of the day.

9.15pm and 36% - Unplugged about 23 hours so far - not bad :)

More playing on alchemy, more browsing, some wifi on, texting, facebooking, changing settings etc, downloaded 2 apps.

Going to leave it all night and see how it's doing in the morning.

Feeling much better about things :)

Oh - also took the weather and flippy clock off the home - was irritating me, seemed to flip over every 3 seconds. Got the digital clock now, and if I want a weather forecast I ask for one.

App killers are the real killers themselves. The Android OS does a much better job at closing apps that aren't needed. When you use an app killer all you are doing is using more power because as soon as you close one a couple minutes later the OS starts it again. It becomes a vicious cycle. App killers = Bad battery life.

Good to hear you're feeling better about it :D

It's also worth pointing out that most custom ROMs have tweaks for better battery life so that might be an incentive to root your phone ;)

Hi everyone...
have a look at this, a 1800 maH extended battery for DHD.

Mugen HTC Desire HD Battery Extended Battery - 1800mAh

if any one has already ordered it please share experience..

Take a look at the tiny fineprint at the top. It says...
"Sorry, but this product has been discontinued. However, we have selected alternative product(s) that may be suitable: "

and it provides a link to another 1300maH battery. Sigh....I wanted it too but yes was thinking it sounded too good to be true.

Cheers,
AndroidFreud.

I noticed that last night and looked around everywhere to see if any other places still had it for sale. Came to the conclusion that it must have been withdrawn from sale for a reason.
The biggest power battery I could find was HTC Desire HD Battery BA S470 / HTC A9191 ACE 1550mAh Part:35H00141-02M - Quality Mobile Phone and Digital Camera Batteries At Best Price in UK but after reading a few reviews elsewhere (amazon I think) I don't trust it somehow...........not sure why I just don't .

Seeing the kind of spooky reviews floating about on these sub-standard batteries and cheap makes and considering that they're usually made by some companies that would probably be impossible to track down in case something went wrong AND especially considering that it's a know fact that a poorly made battery can quite possibly explode/leak/or do all sorts of other weird stuff to your shiny new expensive phone....

I think I'll just stick to getting a simple, official replacement battery. Can't see myself needing the battery for more than two days at a stretch without charging one while using the other anyway. And if it's on a long camping trip or something with no electrical outlet/USB port then I'll just throw in a spare good old basic click-click phone that did what they were supposed to do - stay alive as long as possible just so you could make a call, stay reachable and nothing else. Amen! :D

I got my Desire HD 10 days ago and I have done that 8 hours calibration thing and also flashed a custom rom (v1.72) hoping it will help my battery consumption. but I am about to get crazy here is the nightmare.

No Simcard
No Wi-Fi
No Edge
No 3G
No Auto sync

I even did not played even games within this 40 minutes but you can see that it decreased 1% within 40 mins.

The log belongs to an app called CurrentWidget, and my per log consumption is so huge which is approximately -40mA per log while normal users' go on -3 or -5 per log.

I think this could be something - currently in a valley with POOR signal. Have a booster, but doubt it accounts for mobile internet?

I wish they'd just put a good battery in in the first place though... you'd think with the technology in the phone, they could find something to run the blasted thing.

Only have an 18month contract though, so can upgrade again in 15 months effectively ;)

Also still have till Weds before my 7 days is up.

ETA - unplugged at 14.14 today and down 3% by 14.58. Only sent 3 texts.
