Root Desire Root Guide For Newbies

This is exactly what i felt. but this guide is really easy to follow. just follow it step by step and you will be fine. i have only rooted so i can get apps2sd too

thanks fro that, i think ill give rooting a go, just wanting someone to say it was easy to do

its time consuming and i'd def double check you have everything bought/downloaded that you need!

i will do, so couple of hours enough to do it, it should be here tomorrow but i probably wont do anything untill friday, well when i come to do it ill find out ive got everything

well if you check in the other Desire root sticky, last page i believe i have done a good walkthrough for if you have a 0.80 bootloader.

I have a list of everything i used on my laptop (which isn't with me today), i saved it all just in case i need any of it come Froyo time ;)

But if you want i can get it to you for Thursday night, just PM me to remind me!

Used this guide for my t-mobile branded desire, 0.75 bootloader.

Worked perfectly and changed the end of the guide so i put this Froyo ROM on.

Easy as pie, dunno why I waited so long!

edit - actually properly amazed at how much faster Froyo is. Just on installing apps it's an insane difference.

Hi Lekky

Any link that I can refer to when rooting my HTC Desire with HBOOT 0.80?
I got my unit here in Japan.

Sorry if I posted in a wrong thread.

Thanks.

Ok i seem to have got stuck i have got to the bit where i am trying to run the test rru, i have got to stage 6 at the fastbook screen but then what do i do? what do i select? if i run the textruu.exe there is tells me my screen is locked and to disable this function.

Hope you can help!

This maybe a stupid question, but i wanted to check anyway since i'm considering updating to 2.2 with one of the ROMs from XDA, but can i just use the Rooting guide above (minus the apps2sd installation) and then just simply flash the 2.2 ROM from XDA following the steps given there?

I got as far as the command line making the gold card, entering the command after you change directory to the android sdk. I pressed return and it said something like 'error: device not found'.
I'm using the SD card that I normally use for my phone, formatted to fat32.
What did I do wrong?

Ah, silly me. I'll try it again soon.

While I'm here, how does 2.2 handle on the Desire? It's not the official version, right? But does it have the 450% speed increase and other such things that the official one will have?

Is it a simple process to get 2.2, and is it worth it now since the official update is just round the corner?

I followed your guide to root (debrand my Desire) and it seems everything went fine, but i didnt get this superuser "app" . . .

So, it is not rooted ?

Try downloading titanium and see if it asks for superuser permissions when you open it.

Please help I tried to root my phone, got to the final step where you select 'flash zip from sdcard', and it aborts saying
E:Can't open /sdcard/rootedupdate.zip
(bad)

I think the rootedupdate.zip was a bad file, I couldn't open it on my computer either, I redownloaded it and it seems to work. Now I have to try and get that on my goldcard?

Have I bricked my phone? Is there a way to fix this/revert my phone back to normal?

EDIT: Right, so I rebooted the phone and ran through the initial setup, currently it looks like my phone when I first got it. I'll try to remake the goldcard and do it again. I'm glad it didn't brick.
:)

Crisis over, glad to say I've now successfully rooted my phone, with apps2sd as well. Thanks Lekky for your guide. :D

So far I have a gold card....its took we week to decide to root as im scared lol

I was apprehensive at first, but the process is actually very straightforward, all the complicated stuff is done for you, you just have to open files and click stuff.

I rooted using the modaco r6 guide yesterday, then picked this up from the Apps2SD part. Followed word for word. Now my phone hangs on the white HTC screen and wont boot.

Anyone got any ideas?

haven't used the modaco guide, but i don't know if it is compatible with the a2sd on my site.. Reflashing the modaco rom might work, but again i haven't even looked at that guide soo

No worries, Thanks Lekky.

Its supposed be generic 1.15.405.4 based ROM that has Superuser access.

Can I just use the ROM from your guide as update.zip?

again, i'm not sure sorry. Make sure you post in the modaco thread too as they are probably in a better position to help

Hi guys, Just got my Desire today. It's fully charged and so new that the sim isn't even activated yet.

My question is two fold:

(1). Root or just flash/debrand "Orange"
and, can i do it immediately... as in right now!!

(2). Am I able to start off by loading 1.21 or do I have to load 1.15 first

I have the unlock code ready for when I need it!

Thanx

You should apply the unlock code now i think. It shouldn't "relock". You should be able to do it immediately.
