Doctor Who

I wouldn't even mind an entirely new cast on Torchwood. Maybe the doctor's daughter could be on the team?

I caught part of one episode, and while it wasn't bad it just wasn't compelling enough to make me want to follow the series.
I finally saw Adventures in Space and Time. It was really quite good. Better than I had anticipated.

It's not Torchwood, it's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
And it's on American network (Over the Air) television.

It has a vibe about it thats very similar to Torchwood series 1, which is probably why I don't really care for it that much. When it finally shifts into gear it may get very good.

And in an attempt to bring the thread back to Doctor who, I do think Torchwood has pretty much run its course. And the Sarah Jane Adventures have sadley finished, so...

.... what new Doctor who spin off series would you like to see next?

Companions come and go on their own schedule, so AFAIK Clara will be around for a while yet.

Always good to hear....

After catching the last few specials (and a few episodes here and there) I think I'm finally ready to commit.

I rather enjoy the 10th? Dr, David something, so I may try to watch from his start. Hulu Plus, which I just got cause my son is finally home, has seasons 1-7, and I've seen several episodes from 8, so I figure I might as well start watching and let hulu earn my money.

David Tennant. He's my favourite too.

You might want to consider starting from the 9th doctor though. For the sake of his 13 episodes, you may as well start from the beginning of the modern shows and have it set up properly for you. Tennant keeps the same companion as #9 for a fairly long time, so most of the recurring characters in that time were introduced in series 1.

So what season/etc is that? That Dr only had 1 season?

And that brings up another point. Do the allies change as well? Reptile lady and short violent due specific to Matt Smith?

Christopher Eccleston was the 9th Doctor (2005) and yeah, only had one season (I've only see a few of his episodes--waiting for a BBC America marathon so I can catch-up :)).

I can't speak about anything more than what I've seen, but Madame Vastra (reptile lady, a Silurian) and Strax (short, warrior guy, a Sontaran) [I love these two allies], but the might be enemies at first, but the Doctor often finds a way befriend them (time streams notwithstanding).

I do believe Madame Vastra was first seen with Matt Smith, but not sure about Strax, though...

Yeah they do change over time. The more plot heavy allies come and go on their own schedules, but a new companion or doctor is often a good excuse for a refresh of characters. Most of the recurring secondary characters are the family/friends of the companions, for example.

In the case of reptile lady and short violent dude, they were part of Clara's story.
