Loving the Crombie and Docs... very 80s punk. Now if only the writers allow him to "do a Malcolm Tucker" and stick the heid on a Dalek.... oh well, we can hope.
Yeah. I thought about that. I agree, it was a great episode.
I can't say I really bought the idea of anthropomorphizing the TARDIS and then casting it with a sexual relationship with the Doctor. Or the soul-mate choosing.
It's just too convenient a plot device and a recent invention, more like a trend, to put things into convenient, accessible, non-technical and above all, *human* terms.
Imagine a council of Time Lords, eons ago, sat around deciding what the essence of a TARDIS would really be, and having had a lot of trouble, until one of them had a breakthrough. "Hey everyone, look at this future housewife show from Earth - check out Teri Hatcher. Now suppose..."
Yeah. No.
Ok, maybe Raselon would do that if you lost a game, so I could be wrong.
Anyway, the TARDIS wikia identifies River as "one of his known wives" and despite my attitude, I'm cool with adding in the personified TARDIS because, why not, it's fun.
My point was, perhaps the vile beast which shall not be named, and referred to indirectly in the quoting sequence, was recalled in a wedding dress and misidentified as the Doctor's wife.
That was entirely more than I could bear.
In any case, by request, Idris -
Kinda has a witch-like appearance to me, and given the non-human nature, I'm ok with that.
And after being made to fly a pig around, I'd have bad hair and a screeching look too.
Yes, she didn't look like the picture though. She looked much older, decrepit compared to Amy. I didn't mind the character. Hated the casting. Should've been a hot tie.

And that's what passes as old and decrepit for you?
Srsly - I give up.
Granted the first picture was a beauty shot - but - she seems to look a whole lot just like that.
Maybe your TV is out of whack - yeah - I'm going to go with that.
Or you're much younger and Amy Pond makes a difference to you.
There ya go - the clever and sensitive Amy Pond.
PS - as for the casting of River Song, that part required actual acting, unlike Amy Pond's or Donna Noble's - so I think you're way off on it being miscast.
Huh???? Should have been???? Alex Kingston is one the THE most beautiful women on the planet.
Besides, it wouldn't make much sense plot-wise to have River played by some
scantily-clad hormonal teenager when she's supposed to be 'older' than her mother in their current timeline(s).
I'm a bit older myself and to me Alex was always more beautiful than Karen. I suppose that's because when I was young I liked hot girls, but I now prefer beautiful women. It's all a matter of perspective, which slowly shifts as one ages. Also, I like women who are curvy, and Karen is a bit too thin for my tastes. Again, to each their own.
I enjoyed the storylines with Amy/Rory, but they were fairly boring as characters (at least over time they got that way to me). Riversong was an absolutely fantastic character. I really hope to see more of her.
Clara is also pretty awesome. Maybe it's the crazy/reluctant ones that I find interesting...
John Pertwee was my first Doctor, and he really owned the role. He WAS Doctor Who.
He was such a great actor; you have to take your hat off to someone who can transform himself from such an iconic role (where you risk being typecast) into another iconic role and completely own that also.
I'm talking of course of his subsequent role as scarecrow Worzel Gummidge:
He completely owned that role. He WAS Worzel Gummidge.
I concur wholeheartedly! My first doctor was Tom Baker, while traveling with Sarah. My favorite companions are the ones who can hold their own and occasionally keep the Doctor in his place. River is an excellent example, but so was Lady Romana.
