.::Droid X Lounge::.

this is counter productive to the original intentions of this thread. We all know where the lounge is and that we are free to go there if we wish.
The intentions of this thread were also compromised when various cliques began to form, secluding members within that same subforum (in this case, the Droid X); and when it undermines the purpose of the actual Lounge forums.

OK. Im probably doing this all wrong but here goes. I downloaded 2.2 here on the west coast (on a Droid X) at about 9.00pm. the big deal was wifi hotspot and tethering... now it seems that isn't available. What gives?

jsut got it:
Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney issued the following statement:
"The Droid by Motorola doesn’t have [the] hardware to support a Mobile Hotspot. With tethering there is no Connection on the PC side that will allow you to tether the device so the answer is that option isn’t part of this update."

Just got 2.2. Just lost root. :(

Right here with you man!

it is a lot smoother though it nearly feels more useable maybe that's just me though. (not that it wasnt before.)

Happy to have 2.2 not happy to have lost root. Also does anyone else dislike the new slide lock screen? it feels unfinished to me.. Who knows though maybe it'll grow on me.

Was she referring to the droid x or the droid? because I know that they announced the Droid 1 doesn't have the hardware but the Droid X (mine currently after updating) still has 3G mobile hot spot app from verizon

Sorry to steer the conversation off topic, but what are the benefits of "rooting" your phone?

So far I'm pretty happy (running the new froyo update) with how it is. Outside of wireless tethering, I'm not sure about what the real practical benefit is to rooting.

Also, I've been using juice defender to conserve battery life on my phone. How accurate is that application? Ever since I updated to Froyo this morning it's telling me it's increasing my battery life by 1.5x compared to yesterday which was 1.25x. I know it just disables the 3G radio when you go into stand by, but I am unsure of whether or not it's accurate or if Froyo consumes more battery?

Last night birdman tweeted that the Droid 2 root methed does work for the Droid X OTA. It isn't hard to do if you have rooted before without using 1 click root.

Brake screech. That's just it. I did 1 click root. I guess I should find out more before I attempt it, then.

Overall I love my X, and android in general! HOWEVER, the puny lil camera on my 3GS could take close up pics of text all day long, while my X just blurs it all out. Anybody else have this problem?

I believe that the rageagainstthecage uses a different exploit then the one click root used so you should be ok to root using the D2 method. I had rooted both one click and the other way before the OTA and was able to root with no problems today (after I got the OTA) using the D2 method. BUT I also flashed back to 2.1 before so I could get the OTA which I believe would have wiped out anything I did by rooting before.

Just make sure you follow the directions exactly and you will be fine, it is still pretty easy as long as you can type the directions exactly using adb. When you want to try it out just remember you got people here to help you out and you can always msg me on Gtalk (same as username here).

Yeah if you run into a problem I'll help where I can too. Ive used this "D2" method a few times now. Once on my friends D2, Once on my DX after upgrading to one of the 2.2's, and again today after getting the OTA. also rootzwiki just tweeted a link to his updated site for rooting the DX now.

I'm thinking (hoping) it will be a breeze. I understand it and have all the files ready to roll. I just need to go home so I get my usb cable, in order to hook up the phone to the PC. I've done this before with 1 click. :)
