***Droid X Software Update***

I just noticed something new. With the phone off and plugged into the charger a display shows battery level. (I knew that) Then after the screen turns off you can go back and check the progress of charging the battery by pressing the power button once. Is this a new feature or did I just get it?
Mine did that before

Did anybody else's battery meter get worse after the update? Mine has dropped from full charge to 70% in only 2 hours with just 10-15 minutes use. And that is with a brightness fo 20%.

Mine didn't go below 60% yesterday after being regularly used all day. This morning it hit 90% after being off the charger for two hours...

When i first updated my battery status increased and I was pleased... but it just tanks really bad now. I'll have to see if it gets any better. I wonder if it is just a bad battery.

Not too sure it'd be a bad battery. i'm hoping that it was just the weather widget that i added last night

So, it kinda sucks that the battery isn't displayed in individual percentages, but I can live with that. Kinda getting use to it now -- hopefully root can fix that though.

Anyhow, after the update, I am still noticing the trend that the battery indicator isn't showing the correct amount of battery left. It decreases fairly quickly, and then you must reboot in order to see the true amount.

Why Motorola!?! Why!?! Kick-ass phone, suck-ass battery indicator!

Has anyone noticed anything different? Like NOT having to reboot your phone after getting to say... 50%?

So, is anyone still getting the thing where if you are down to 40% and reboot, you go up to 70%?

I just did that and it stayed at the same number before the reboot.

There's no way to know which number was actually the correct number before, so I don't know if it made the battery life seem better or worse, but hopefully, it's at least accurate now.

I just tried the "reboot battery trick" at 70% and it's not jumping up! Yesterday I was at 50% and did the trick and it jumped to 80% and stayed there for a while. Used it normally and couldn't kill it before going to bed @ 11pm.

If it's resolved then the battery meter shouldn't be going down as fast as before the update. However, if it continues like this (rebooting does nothing), then we will have "lost" battery life due to the update. Which makes no sense to me...

I will continue to report my findings on this unscientific battery drainage study!

Lol.

Thanks,
-Elo

I'm not seeing the jump either, but I thought I saw people who said they were still. Anyone?

If they did fix that, any comparisons on battery life between before and after updates are really only valid if you time it from 100% until the phone dies.

Who knows what your battery really was at before the update? If you were at 40%, rebooted and got 70% and then waited a few hours and it dropped to 50%, I don't think it's valid to say your battery lasted X hours and was at 50%. You don't know that 50% was correct at all.

Being cautious, I delayed downloading until after reading the pro's and cons, paying close attention to reports of how it would affect rooting possibilities.
Just now after finally deciding to update I began the process of looking for any changes it has made good and bad.

First for the good:
-The battery level went from 50% to 70%
-There was a signal gain of about -7dbm
-This translated to a gain of 135kbs down and 71kbs up (when compared to tests done by SpeedTest 17min earlier)
-Changing screens is slightly faster
-Loading games and other programs is noticeably faster
-The text on the screen seems a little sharper

Now for the bad: (The only thing I've noticed so far)
-A green dead pixel appears in the same spot in both camera modes.
Unfortunately this does appear on the finished pic/video when viewed on the computer.
It was not there before the update.

Overall a solid update with on glaring flaw that won't be a big deal provided a patch is released soon.

Derp! Just checked and realized I left my battery set to performance mode...

Doh... and I figured out with mine that the GPS was turned on for some reason. I wonder if the update did it or I somehow turned it on by accident. Either way the battery life is A LOT better with it turned off.

Anyone know if they fixed picasa albums not showing up in the gallery? Thats the big issue for me as I use picasa for ALL my photos...

GPS turned on doesn't use any battery. It just means programs have access to it.

It's only on and using battery when you see the icon in the notification bar.

im trying to update the software, but it says not enough storage space available on the phone. i have over 6GB free! anyone else have this problem?

I get this with my camera now. This has happened 2 times since the update.

since the update I've lost the charging LED. Also it takes a bit longer for the Market to show up. Also, phone is a slight bit slower.

Can I go back plz?

Correct but with a caveot.

If the GPS can't lock onto a signal, then it stays on for quite a while, searching for satellites. Some widgets I have running (Beautifu Widgets location based weather, for example) try to ping the GPS and if it can't get a signal, then it keeps trying. Battery life in this case is definately affected.

In my case, the secure building I work in makes the battery life worse with GPS enabled. It keeps searching. At home, the battery lasts forever.

Here's hoping the update improved the GPS performance.
