Droid X Vs. Incredible

So I got the X yesterday. I don't understand what all the hype is about. The incredible UI smashes the crap out of the X. The incredible is refined, smooth and fast. The X is awkward. The UI is terrible. The unlock screen is just plain, nasty and slow. The physical buttons feel cheap and the layout is ass-backwards. One handed you'll find it next to impossible to use. The speaker vibrates at the highest volume.

I could go on, but all and all it wasn't a pleasant experience.

Why is this stupid thread still going??? Shouldn't the x guys be in the x forum? Dammit, I bumped it to the top again.

Because there's people with both, or have had both. But what do you expect in the DI forum?

Same could be said about the X that you say about the DI. Once handed, the X is great, and OMG it has twice the running power as far as battery is concerned :D:D

The AMOLED tint will be there, and it will be typically 1 of 3 different colors. It's just the techology. I love AMOLED screens, but you can't really complain about the X's tft.

I think this thread has a tone of "moto vs htc, fight!" more than anything :D:D

Well, I will agree with him concerning the UI. The unlock screen is a product of stock 2.1 Maybe if the X had a custom unlock screen it would better too. Anyone that used the X and used the nav dots to scroll back and forth cannot say it isnt lightening fast that way. Wish the whole launcher could be that way, oh well.

I still dont get the one handed comments. Only issue I see is swiping the notification bar up and down with one hand. The dialing pad, keyboard is very reachable. The phone is narrow, the dial pad and the keyboard is right there. I can see if the keypad and keyboard were at the top or bottom of the phone, but its not...lol

Someone mentioned the other day about it being hard to use the X in landscape mode one handed.....cmon...lol

I understand if u like the Inc, EVO, etc better and wanna defend your fav phone. But be realistic. I have average size hands and I can text and dial one handed with no issues. (on that note, I use my left to hold the phone and right to dial and type...its more accurate that way.) Is there anything else ppl are doing one handed that I'm overlooking?

I've been following this thread for a few days and even went through the trouble of reading it from the beginning.

Anyway, I've been due for an upgrade since May and haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet. I did put myself on a store's DInc waiting list, but asked to be taken off after the big V pushed back the ship date for the 4th time, so I'm still making do with my office-issued BB Storm (and I'm not a huge fan).

Until I started this new job and got the Storm, I have always had the plainest, cheapest phone my carrier offered. When I heard about Android, I stared to get excited because I'm a big fan of open-source OS's and my Dell Axim PDA is long overdue for an upgrade. So with all that said, I don't want to compromise on much.

Here is what I am looking for in a phone in order of importance:

  1. rootable (pretty much a must-have)
  2. call quality - it is a phone, after all
  3. intuitive and easy UI (though this can be customized to my liking via #1, or other apps)
  4. performance when running apps
  5. availability of device-specific docks/cradles for home/office & car with integrated charging
  6. screen: quantity and quality
  7. battery life (inversely related to #5)
  8. long-term updates/support (from mfgr, or tied to #1)
  9. reliable BT connectivity
Neither phone hits all of these items, but from everything I've read, DInc wins 1, 3, 4, 8, and 9 and X wins 2, 5, 6, 7. I've already waited over two months to even get in line for one of these. Should I just wait for the Fascinate at this point? Maybe someone will even magically crack the X in the meantime.

I appreciate any feedback.

I like the Fascinate except for 2 things.. I guess overall minor and superficial... the name first off - but I guess Incredible isn't much better. What bugs me more is how much it looks like a rip-off of an iPhone. Now, I understand by basic design.. you can only do much with a smartphone and maybe the iPhone 3s basic layout is optimum, but I can just imagine how many people will be asking why you haven't updated your iPhone.

Not that I care too much what other people think, but the iPhone using friends I've shown the Fascinate to.. totally resulted in them bursting out in laughter.

Overall though.. I think if you can wait, Fascinate would be the way to go. The fact that you're already looking to root makes Samsung's update policy (or lack of) a moot point.

I had the x for 2 days.

Hated everything except for the largeness of the screen.

The screen quality was crappy compared to the inc..

Exactly our thoughts when Me, My Brother in law and Father in law all compared our phones.
(Droid X, Samsung Galaxy S, Droid Incredible)
We ALL agreed the OLED screen had a better image than the Droid X.
Three people, all with good eyesight and it was easy to see !!

my Dell Axim PDA is long overdue for an upgrade.

Ha Ha - don't hold your breath - I am looking for a home for mine.:D

The Dinc does everything my axim did and its a phone.

Its funny when I pick up the axim and try to swype.

Was at the Verizon store today checking out the Droid X for my son.

All I will say is I am happy with my Dinc.

The hardware in the fascinate smokes an iPhone though. Also, thats just the launcher that looks iphony. That can be dealt with by another launcher or replacing it via root.

EDIT: I'm tired and just dont feel like it.....lol

No current phone blows any other current phone clear out the water. lol The X doesnt do it to the Inc or any other current phone, and no current phones does it to the X

Weegie5, yes wait for the Fascinate. But check up on 2,4, and 8 on your list for the Fascinate.

The X and Fascinate are even more similar than the X and Inc.

Hey Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and actually spent the time reading this ridiculously long thread...

I have the Dinc but have put in an order for the Dx (through an upgrade swap with my sister, who has the Eris but wants my Dinc)...and have a few questions/concerns that I'd appreciate some feedback on.

I basically use my phone primarily for email/web/maps and then other smart phone things like ESPN Radio, Pandora, news, basic games. For all that, I thought a larger screen would be more important than a "vibrant" LED screen. Agree? Disagree?

To me, the largest complaints about the Dx is the UI (I don't count the screen as a complaint, but more of a preference). But if the hardware supposedly is better than the Dinc, and you just run ADW or LauncherPro, isn't that an obvious way to get the best of both worlds or am I missing something?

I pretty much run stock Sense (I don't even know wtf rooting is), but don't run many widgets b/c most of them take up too much space. That to me was a HUGE draw for the Dx - the ability to take the moto widgets and change their size...but if I got the Dx and ran LauncherPro, can I still load Moto widgets or does that only run if I'm going through the stock UI?

Another plus for me was the calendar app (I use the app not a widget b/c I'm always in week view). On my Dinc, I get the color scheme set up from my Gmail Calendar, but they just look like colored blocks. On the Dx, it actually had some text describing what the event was without even clicking on it (in week view) and for me, that was a HUGE plus...or is there some painfully obvious way of running that on Dinc?

I also like the idea of having the better battery life w/o having to buy another battery (b/c I do a lot of work in signal-poor areas like hospitals), and the possibility of reading more easily outdoors (although it's not that bad when I put the Dinc's brightness up to 100%), but I'd be willing to give that up if the UI is that much painfully slower than Sense. I'm afraid of switching to the Dx will be like switching back to a PC after using my MacBookPro...b/c everytime I click that damn start button or windows icon, I want to punch something...

The whole copy/paste thing...is that possible on launcherpro? or does nothing happen when you hold down something on the Dx?

With 2.2 supposedly coming out sooner for the Dx, how will that affect the UI/speed/lagginess? Or are those things independent (I clearly don't fully understand all of this stuff) and the Dx is damned to be slow forever?

So for me, the switch to the Dx makes sense (no pun intended), but do you think I'm missing/forgetting anything as to why I would want to cancel the order and keep the Dinc? Granted, I've had my Dinc since early may and I've only played with the Dx for 20 min...

Also, what's the Droid 2 and Samsung fascinate? Will the latter be running android? When's that coming out for VZW?

Any thoughts about this pointless ramble will be much appreciated. If I change my mind I probably need to call soon to cancel the order--Thanks

Well this is great news:

The Droid X has been rooted.

One week after launch, not bad. Well for all of those naysayers about the Droid X being unrootable...

OMG! You missed the point completely.

Loading custom ROMS and FLASHING is completely different than rooting. It was always known that the phone could get rooted.

But the X will never get roms or flash. For example, you will never be able to upgrade to gingerbread if it leaked and you knew Motorola wasn't going to upgrade the device or was going to take a long time.

That is the major issue. Not rooting.

The X hardware better than the Inc? I wouldn't say that based upon using both phones. In fact, I'd say the Inc feels faster, more refined and the screen on the Inc smokes the X.

Does the average user need better reception and battery life. Or a phone to run cooler, not overheat as fast...

Cuz thats what the 45nm cpu, Diversity Antennas on the X offer. And I only mentioned the phone aspects of it, didnt even get into the other areas of the X. U cant deny the X is a step up from the Inc...........I can understand ppl that already have an Inc. not switching, I can understand ppl not wanting a bigger phone........

But dont say it has nothing to offer....Even the Droid, which I believe has better reception and better battery life since its running a slower cpu, has something to offer.....

Engadget is cool, but just for them not covering the call quaity, reception and speaker....and still give it a rating....it gets a big thumbs down....Dont just read the reviews and focus on the negatives. Cuz the positives outweigh any negatives by a big margin.

Actually in recent test, even death grip test. The Droid and Droid X have lower reception then the INC and even the iPhone 4. However the X is a step up as far as specs go, but then again with ups in video display, and other feature the phone's performance has not went up. MOTO did what they always do and upgrade the parts people look for, not the parts of the phone that perform tasks.

The link for that test? The ones I seen the X passed with flying colors. The Droid? Its very hard to make it lose bars, decibels, a signal.

Users on here that had the Inc and EVO said they get better reception. I get better reception than my Droid that had a Froyo baseband that gave me better reception than when I was running 2.1

I actually never seen an Inc have that test done to it yet. I seen other HTC phones, but not that one.

And the performance hit is more than likely this new Blur. Look at the lock screen for the X and the Inc. The Inc has a Sense UI lock screen, the X uses vanilla Android's lock screen.

The X hardware better than the Inc? I wouldn't say that based upon using both phones. In fact, I'd say the Inc feels faster, more refined and the screen on the Inc smokes the X.

Not better hardware?

The gpu on the orig Droid is better than the Inc's. The X has the same one, but its clocked higher....load and run HR Battle 3D, Google Maps on both phones and see if theres a difference.

Noise cancellation mic vs. none on the Inc.

3 mics for very good audio when video recording vs none on the Inc.

The cpu on the X is 45nm vs. 65nm on the Inc. Look around, u already see threads about excellent battery life on the X vs. the Inc.

X uses LPDDR2 memory vs. LPDDR1 on the Inc. Thats like upgrading the RAM in a PC.

Thats not better hardware? Then please tell me what is. What "feels faster" is Sense UI vs. Blur, vanilla Android. (see what I mentioned about the lock screens above. The X is more of a mix of vanilla Android than phones running Sense UI) Launcher Pro and ADW already proved what smooth home screen scrolling comes from.

lol, the screen on the Inc is over saturated. That doesnt smoke an accurate screen. It means ppl that like natural colors will prefer the X, ppl that like un natural colors will like the Inc. And the Inc screen is no where sharper than the X's

The Inc screen has "vibrancy" from being over saturated, deep blacks for having a monster contrast ratio.

X has hardware advantages over the Inc, Inc has software advantages over the X.

My sister got the DX on launch day. I have used it quite a bit. Here is what i have noticed:

1) AMOLED blows the socks off of LCD. You do not realize how much pleasure your eyes are getting from seeing an AMOLED until you put it next to an LCD.

2) The battery life on my DInc is more than acceptable. i get through an easy 16 hours or moderate to heavy use. But the DX, holy crap that thing lasts my sister 40 hours on a single charge with moderate to heavy use. It has an AMAZING battery life.

3) I like that the Sense UI is more polished, but i like the widgets on the DX, i like how can size them any way you want!!

4) And i don't know how people are able to get good pictures on the DX, i have been trying to take some pictures with it and they are all coming out horribly and i have tried messing around with all the setting.

5) I LOVE the build quality of the DX, the Dinc is good, but i do not understand why they went with that stupid squeaky plastic back cover.

In the end, both are awesome phones. I prefer the DInc more because of its size. (I actually had the option of returning my DInc and get the DX, but i did not).

From normal day to day use i prefer the DInc. But the DX is more of a, let me pull out this huge tablet to off to my friends and have them wowed.

Yea they are both good phones.

Check out some pic threads in the X section for ppl that got the X to take real good pics. Someone did a comparison in this and the X section, and both phones have their pros and cons even when comparing cameras.

I see + and - of both phones, I think we all do!

Anyway we can let this thread die already?

I mean really, it served its purpose for those looking to make the move and people for the most part have fallen into the pro-DI group or the pro-DX group by now...

Is anyone staunchly on one side of this debate or the other going to be swayed?
Is this thread anything more than a pissing match at this point?

I know there are people on this AND the X forum that are really sick of reading about this! Let's all enjoy our phones and move on.

Of course that's just my opinion FWIW!!! :D

LOL. Thats my cue...I agree 100%

Both are great phones. If u on Verizon and want a bigger phone, the X is a good choice. If u on Verizon and want a regular size phone. The Inc. is the way to go.

Had the DInc ordered, canceled it to get the X...BIG MISTAKE! Was not impressed at all, yes the phone is fast but the UI is horrible! The only thing I liked about the X besides the speed was swype, which is amazing :D

Needless to say, the X is on its way back and the DInc has been re-ordered.. hope it doesn't take to long to ship. Verizon still says it will ship by 8/3, we'll see...fingers crossed!! :D

I fooled around with the droid x today...came away with a meh impression. Everyone has beaten this horse, so I'll just say this. If you have the Incredible with AMOLED, consider yourself lucky.
