Droid X Vs. Incredible

I highly doubt that the designers of early Palms and Blackberry's had gaming and movies in mind when they designed those devices.
I will agree with you on that... but the topic is about the DINC and the X, and other phones like the Fascinate/Galaxy S, whose whole ad campaign is more about multimedia/entertainment than it is about business.

Really? Its all or nothing?
!

And what I meant by this comment was more in response to a previous post. For most of the people buying these specific phones, things like the CPU, GPU, and camera are important. If you're saying that a phone should just be a phone/data browser, then none of those things are important, but then I don't know why any of these phones would be appealing. I honestly think more people agree with you than me about what a smartphone should be used for, and that's why Blackberry is still so big.. I just feel like iPhones and Android phones are trying to cater more towards multimedia lovers and gamers, at least more so than other smartphones.

I will agree to disagree though, because I don't want to seem argumentative or hostile. I just believe that smartphones are headed in a new direction, and they are already changing the way people talk/browse/view/game, and I like to encourage phone developers to keep pushing the hardware so that when the software finally catches u,p we will all reap the rewards.

Stopped in to my local Verizon store today to play around with the X. I didn't stay for long but the only thing I actually enjoyed about it was the screen size. Opened up navigation and it was nice to have that extra room on there.

I pulled my Incredible out and kind of laughed at how the X screen looked quality wise... seemed washed out. Was also sluggish and even started off completely non responsive when I tried to switch between screens. Things seemed a lot less intuitive on the X. I didn't take the time to try out the camera and obviously cant comment on sound quality but I haven't been disappointed in my Incredible.

Overall, after I left I thought to myself that I would really like an Incredible in that size but that no one would be able to persuade me to pick up an X.

To each his own I suppose.

After reading this thread..I came to the conclusion that the winner of this battle will reign supreme for probably 3-6 months..in 6 months or even less, both phones will be old old news...cellphones are so freaking disposable now..part of me just want to wait until this fast pace will slow down to at least once a year refresh instead of every 2-3 months something new will totally blow the doors off your "brand new" phone...:( just read reading some posts on this and other threads...make me feel like my kind of new Incredible is like the N95 I had since 2007...maybe I should just get a Jitterbug instead..

On August 15th I'm ordering a new phone. I'm currently using the LG Ally which was my first android phone (or even smart phone at that). I thought it would be good enough for me and I'm realizing I'm beginning to turn into a heavy data user and it's just not fast enough and the screen is too small.

So I've narrowed it down the Droid Incredible and the Droid X. I decided to go to the local Verizon store and take a look at them both. I played with each phone for about 20 minutes.

First impressions Droid Inc:

Man this thing is fast! The incredible at the store was running the HTC scene with a good amount of widgets running and I couldn't get the phone to stutter no matter what I did to it.

Sitting next to my Ally I was actually pretty unimpressed with the screen. It was nowhere near as bright and the colors looked off. The blacks were much better though.

The phone fits in my hand really well but the size is a little off. I feel like it's too tall but not wide enough. Texting in portrait mode seemed really cramped.

The phone felt very plasticy next to my Ally and didn't inspire confidence. I'm also very concerned about battery life and call quality on the Inc.

First Impressions Droid X:

Man this thing is Huge! The screen is also amazing. I much preferred it to the Incredible's, or my ally's for that matter.

What I wasn't expecting though was just how SLOW the phone is. The ally with it's 600mhz cpu was running circles around the X while doing similar things. I decided to reboot the phone and after I did it seemed much faster, but still about 1/2 as quick as the Incredible. After removing all the social networking widgets it was close but still not on par with the Inc (which had a full array of widgets and a live wallpaper). Is this a major issue with the X? I checked for updates while there and it said the phone was up to date so It kind of scares me that it may have similar freezes and pauses I've become so used to in my Ally.

The build quality seems leaps and bounds better than the Incredible. It also felt lighter than my Ally (not as feather light as the Inc) which is strange because it's listed as the same weight as the Ally.

I also feel that Motorola did a better job making the screen span most of the phone. I'm also a fan of physical buttons for home and back and what not. I love them on my Ally.

I'm also somewhat worried about the size. If the Verizon Galaxy S would launch I think it would be the best for me in terms of screen size.

I've also really gotten big into geo-caching so if anyone knows which phone seems to have better gps performance that would also be a major deciding point.

I also hear that the X's battery life and call quality are far superior to the Inc. Any legitimacy to these claims?

Thanks,
Will

For me, both phones were equally fast, tho the Dinc had more eye candy, IMO. I had no problems with call quality for either phone, but I preferred the stock ring tones on the Dinc. I did have a problem with my Dinc set to "vibrate"... I had several missed calls with the phone on a holster on my hip. No such problem with the X.

Battery and screen size were the reason I returned my phone for the X and I don't regret it. I use Launcher Pro instead of the stock Blurr, which I don't like. If I had the choice of an even bigger screen, I would have considered it.

its your fault really. the droid x was my first android phone so i had nothing to compare it to so then its by default the fastest android phone i've ever used. let this be a lesson to you

Well after reading almost the entire post, I have to say it looks like most people would rather have the DINC. I am still within my EVO return period and was on the fence about switching to VZW for the X but I will probably keep my EVO, Sprint has been awesome and the EVO is very similar to the DINC.

This is so true. We get all worked up and excited about a new phone, get it, and within months, if not weeks, it's already outdated and something bigger and badder is out to make is drool and try and finagle ways to be able to get one. Then the cycle repeats.

The Moto Droid isn't even a year old and is already ancient.

Also, it's really hard to get opinions on devices. People have a preference and they show favor to the one they prefer.

I wanted the Incredible. HAD to have it. I ordered it, and after being jerked around a bit, I started looking at the X. At first, I thought there was absolutely no way I could handle carrying a phone around that was that big. The size just totally threw me. After watching review after review, comparison pictures, reading as much as I could, I went ahead and swapped my order.

The day I got it, I went into VZW to buy a case. While I was there, I played with the DINC. Aside from Blur vs Sense, I didn't really notice a difference speed-wise compared to my X. And as far as screen quality (not size) The DINC didn't blow me away.

I'm loving my X, and having it just since the 16th, I'm already totally used to the size. I'm not sure how I'd go back to smaller phone without squinting. LOL!

Verizon actually shipped one of my canceled DINC's and it'll be here Monday. I was seriously considering activating it just to check it out, but I don't think I will. I'm happy with the X.

No see the inc makes colors look unrealistic where the X makes colors look how they are supposed to look not the way they are shown on the inc but the inc felt so junky i mean the plastic back cover i was alwasy worried anytime i took it off it would break and the protruding camera lens that easily got dinged up wasnt to smart either

Keep in mind you are in the DROID Incredible section of this forum. Post the same thread in the DROID X section and I bet you have the opposite reaction...

Then by that logic neither screen is better than the other....

A person who want realistic colors will pick LCD. Ppl who want "popping unrealistic" colors will want Amoled.

Take 2 HDTV's side by side. Make one realistic colors, the other "popping unrealistic" colors.

Which will looked washed out?

Its what u prefer.....

Could point. thats why id take the Plasma over the crappy LCD TV;)

I originally purchased the Droid Incredible, which was back ordered by at least a month (this was on June 14). Since I wasn't set to receive my phone until July 7th I decided to cancel my order and purchase the Droid X upon its release.

Long story short, I love the phone. The only thing I don't like about Verizon phones with data plans is the fact that you cannot talk on the phone and browse at the same time.

This comparison was an interesting read, but one thing everyone seems to be forgetting is that both the X and the Dinc are due for major updates within a month.

I love my incredible. I don't love the call quality or battery life -- both of which seem to be better on the X.

The X UI sucks compared to Sense.

How much will these facets change when they are updated? Will battery life on the Dinc improve with applications demanding less CPU time? Will choppy call quality improve? If these are improved, there is very little to complain about on the Dinc.

Will the UI on the X be "streamlined" to something more pleasant when they update? If so, the major issue everyone seems to have with the X goes away.

Therein lies MY dilemma. I'm suffering the bad call quality on the Dinc and not liking battery life. I hate the UI on the X and would prefer not to have to install apps to address that issue. My 30 day trial on the Dinc is over in a week -- well before there will be any updates to decide. With big red, you get one swap. If I go X, I'm done swapping and if I regret it, I'm stuck with it for two years...

I can fix the UI issues for the most part, but I can't fix battery life and call quality. That's why I'm leaning toward an X even though I like the Dinc size better and the AMOLED screen is, well, gorgeous compared to LCD...
