Droid X Vs. Incredible

Unless you have Burger King dude small hands, you'll be fine :)

I'm not so sure there's a belt clip for the phone. You may want to ask the questions in the X forum, you'll probably get some better responses.

So . . .

I ordered the Incredible. After being bounced back and forth on estimated shipping dates, I ended up canceling the order and ordering the Droid X.

I'll start by saying I absolutely love the X. But the kicker, I LOVE the large screen, but it really is a whole lotta phone. One-handed use of the phone is a little tricky. :( I was messing around with Swype last night and I'm good at it, but while holding the phone with my other hand at the same time.

Anyhow, I'm thinking about swapping for the Incredible. Because online CS gave me a discount, it's somewhat of a PITA. I went into the store today and they advised me to go through CS so that I wouldn't have to do without a phone. CS can't help me because they don't have access to my correspondence with online CS giving me the discount. So I've emailed and am waiting for my original contact to get back to me.

So, if you've gone from the X to the Incredible, what was the transition like? Did you adjust pretty quickly to the smaller screen? What's the battery difference?

Thanks!

Never had the X, and I don't like Swype....but I would guess if you want a smaller phone it would be the way to go. Really the only other "big" (no pun here) difference is SenseUI

I've worked with both. You can't do wrong with either. I love both of them. If size is a major factor, then by all means, go with the Incredible. You won't feel like you're missing out on a thing.

One can always load Launcher Pro, Beautiful Widgets, etc., on either the Droid X or the Incredible, and customize them to their heart's content, but one can't shrink or grow their phone.

Can't we all get along? I'm just glad that verizon has 2 excellent phones(3 when the droid 2 arrives). I have big manly hard fingers and I picked the Droid X for the large screen. The size and material quality are a good match with my 290 pound frame; big man = big phone. My wife loves the dinc and hates the X for the size. I like the dinc on paper but it just did not feel right in my hand like the X or even my droid original.

I am not going to lie, i was vastly impressed by the X's screen size. I thought it was actually amazing and gorgeous. I had to weight my options, is this going to be an advanced multi-media phone with the phone and texts as a secondary option when compared to videos, music, browsing, etc. And i realized i need texts, phone, and media on the side. Since I use multimedia as a secondary operation, i decided that i want the small size of the D-inc to be with me all day, and in and out of my pocket, in and out of my car, and in and out of my couch :) . I decided i don't need 4.3 inches and I've decided that I liked sense much better than Moto-Blur. For some reason, and again, this is just my opinion, the Inc felt snappier to me when changing menus and when texting, while the X showed early signs of chugging when flipping through pages, photos, home screens, etc. I made sure nothing was running on the X that shouldnt be, and killed all tasks to make sure nothing was clogging it up, but still i felt a slight chug when changing through home screens (doesn't the X have a faster processor). I felt the Inc was much faster in that aspect, but then again, the X's screen and color was gorgeous and while my screen is nice, i have yet to see a phone that looks better than the X. and if you even think the iPhone4 comes close to the X in terms of video quality, you're nuts (again, my opinion, and my opinion is useless).

But i realized i'm not going to be using it for video, or for multimedia, so the smaller phone was for me. YMMV

I've had the Incredible since it came out at the end of April. I got the X when it came out because I like having the latest and greatest. On paper, the X does have some better specs than the Incredible but I just never got used to it. I had it activated for a week and a half and reactived my Incredible. X has been sitting around and needs to be shipped back tomorrow.

Yes, the big screen is very nice but there were a few things that I really didn't like. The physical buttons completely ruins the touch screen experience for ME. I hated them. The UI is not nearly as intuitive as Sense. I never downloaded Launcher Pro so maybe that would've made all the difference in the world. I hated the location of the camera button as my pinky rests there and it felt awkward pressing it all the time. I like the true blacks on the AMOLED screen better. I also like the over-saturated colors better too. For me, the battery in the X sucked. Worse than my Incredible. Never figured out why. My friend has an X, we hung out all day and he took tons of pics and video and he was at 70%. My phone had already powered itself down. I've heard some people have great battery life with the X so mine might be an anomaly. There were a couple of other little things that bothered me but can't think of them now. Don't get me wrong, the Droid X is definitely a great phone but after using the Incredible first, I've been spoiled. It was so GREAT going back to the Incredible. I can just fly on that thing and the size is perfect for ME. Not that the Incredible doesn't have it's own problems. All phones do, but for me, Incredible wins hands down.

Oh, just remembered, the earpiece volume sucked for me. It was very hard hearing the other person while driving and the external speaker is weak compared to the Incredible's. The whole internet radio experience sucked with the X.

I was playing around with a friend's X & I couldn't deal with the UI. I am one of those who loves sense & I wouldn't trade my DInc for any other phone.

My wife has the X and I have the Incredible, so I feel like I can put some input into this topic.

She got the X and told me that she didn't care which phone she ended up with, so I had the choice of the X or keeping my Incredible. I was excited to check the X out, because I thought having that big screen would be awesome.

The screen is great, but Motorola's software is absolutely terrible. I booted the phone up expecting to show her how everything worked (coming from my DInc and 2.1 knowledge) but honestly I was lost after booting up the phone. The available widgets are crap and don't seem to space well on the screen (how I would like them to, anyway).

As far as the screen goes, I see a lot of people say the DInc wins hands down because of AMOLED, but to be honest I don't see much of a difference. They are both beautiful.

Due to Motorola's gross bloat-ware inspired Motoblur (or whatever it is called these days), I kept my DInc.

I think we should all realize that we are in the Dinc forum and naturally our reviews will be nudging and pushing towards the Dinc. Lol . If u go to the X forum there is an exact topic with the exact reviews but for the.opposite phone. It's a complete paradox. The problem is there is no true answer. And as much as we want to believe we are unbiased and can review a phone other than ours but most of us can't , me being the most guilty. It's hard to judge. I guess now I understand the iPhone nutjobs out there. We are more civilized , but i hope we don't lose our souls like iFanatics.

Im looking to get my first smartphone and I had made up my mind on the droid X, until I started looking at the DINC. They seem very similiar the the DINC seems to have everything I would need. Some of the reviews I have read state the DINC keyboard is slow and unresponsive. Is this a trouble anyone has experienced. I was also curious how bad the battery life is. I know its bad, but how bad?

Granted I've only had mine for a day, I did have the X so I can compare. I haven't noticed a keyboard lag at all, and my battery seems to be holding up just fine with sync on, two gmail accounts and Facebook hourly sync. I was really worried about battery, but so far, no issues. I'll report back in a few days to see if it remains consistent.

Also, I've read a LOT about bump charging, but I kinda don't have that option. Mine charges to green and stays green after unplugging and plugging back in. I guess that's a good thing!

Performance is a difference ;)

Sense >Pseudo Blur in usability and performance ;)

If I was in the market for a new phone and didn't have a Dinc, I might consider the X despite its shortcomings.

However, its not an upgrade, its more of a trade. Bigger screen vs. smaller. Worse software vs. better. Hard buttons that are stupidly small vs. capacitive buttons...

It really boils down to preference.

I myself found the X uncomfortable to use, and the buttons were ridiculous. Why did they make such a big phone with such dinky buttons?

To me it comes down to Launcher Pro Plus versus Sense or quasi blur.

Call quality is better on the DX.

Size is bigger.

I love sense, though. I also love launcher pro plus.

love my ROOTED dx :)

Must be the water out there...up here in "973/201 land" I have no call quality complaints. :p

My girlfriend just picked up the droid x. I have the incredible. And, unlike most people on this forum who are so lost in the smugness of the pride of their phone, I like to judge things a little more objectively.

As far as "bigger" goes, yes, it's wider and it's longer than the incredible. But at it's best, it's the same thickness, if not thinner than the incredible. The incredible has all those steps that make you think it's thinner than it really is and the X does not. There's something to be said about a phone that has a (mostly) uniform cross section. It slides very easily in and out of my pocket compared to the incredible. And when I had a case on my inc, forget about it- it caught on my pocket lining ever time leading to many drops.

As far as size goes, unless you wear super tight hipster jeans, the X does just fine.

Hardware wise, I found the X to be supierior in every category. Size, screen quality, industrial design, material it's made out of, etc. It had a good weight to it, it feels superior as far as it's mechanical material goes (fees very sturdy compared to the plasticy incredible), and the screen was superior. Especially in the sun, which is very nice. Being a mechanical engineer, I appreciate the hardware side of it. The battery removal is slick and snappy, it all "clicks" together well because the clips are metallic and well designed with good snap ratios, etc. It definitely will take a drop better than the incredible just because of the material's yield strength... aluminum is exponentially better than PC/ABS and will keep energy from transfering to the glass infront of the screen. This is a very good thing for my girlfriend.

Software? That's where the incredible shined. Sense is nice. Motoblur was not up to my taste, but I'm sure with time it'd be ok. I got used to my incredible so there's a comfort factor there. I changed a bunch of the X's settings to get it "incredible like" but my girlfriend quickly scrubbed that out with her own thing on the phone. From what I could tell, the widgets on motoblur were very clunky. The social networking ones were pretty nice. But the contact widgets were pretty clunky and gaudy. And the contact list doesn't "centralize" like sense's. My contacts keeps a small neat list that I use for calling people. My girlfriend's X threw every single facebook friend of hers on her contact list and (her being a facebooker crazy girl) about had a heart attack as she's having a hard time filtering the ones she actually cares about.

Phone quality seemed the same. Call quality, sound reproduction, etc. The X seemed to have a slightly better sound reproduction. But that's about it.

Reception wise the incredible had the X hands down. She was sitting next to me on my couch, and my apartment is kind of a no-man zone for verizon. It's like the only place on earth verizon doesn't reach lol. I had to put her on my wifi network in order to get her started up on downloading apps via the market. She had good enough reception for facebook (barely) but no enough for downloading. My incredible was throttling downloads. I was getting 3g. She was getting 1x.

The X battery (out of the box) beats my stock 1350mha battery pretty bad. After I put a 1500 htc battery in it, I haven't had any issues making it through the day before hitting 40% on heavy-moderate usage. As far as how much she uses it and how long she can go without charging, it's still up in the air. But she has been making it through the day in a similar manner to my new battery. So the X has the incredible there (if the incredible is stock). But the 1500mha battery fixes this quite well for low dollar.

A lot of this is opinion, much like all the other ones on here, so take it for what you will. But a lot of this was just mere observation, too.
I think this is a very fair review.
I am just surprised that Inc has better reception, but I am not questioning you.
I think X's camera is better but yeah.
Software part, I fully agree. Sense is so well integrated that it is just smooth as butter.

Whats better the incredible or the x?

If you are mainly a music freak- Inc wins (much better audio quality for music from speaker and 3.5mm jack).

If you are a video freak, X wins, since the bigger screen is nice for watching vids.

If you are in the middle, pick which one feels best when holding it.

A friend of mine at work recently got the Droid X. It's a really nice phone with all kinds of screen real estate. However, I was completely surprised when I saw my Incredible side by side with his. The screen quality of the Incredible just completely destroys the X's. I mean, it was a night and day difference. Compared to the very colorful contrast and deep blacks on my Incredible, his phone looked completely washed out, with very bland colors and very grey blacks. I'm not sure what kind of improvements he could make to his in the screen options, but I don't think he could've done anything to come anywhere close to the Incredible's colors.

AMOLED for the win...for sure.

I don't know if anyone agrees, but I think the Droid X is one UGLY phone. Incredible is one of the best looking phones available, but the Moto-Droids just look clunky cumbersome and awkward. And sad to say in your hand the feel the same way they look.

I agree Steven, the Dinc is a good phone but call quality and signal strength is hands down better on the X. Htc sense is better than blur so i use launcherpro.

Bars do show better signal, but dBm signal (what matters) is virtually the same for both. Call quality its better on the X.
