Enough "Pretty Girls" and Porn!

I am simply replying to a post that was made on an internet forum. I have no issue. I did not start the topic...just responding to it with my opinion. If the op did not want feedback he should have not posted. I can't help it that i dont agree with him. He does not have agree with me. America is beautiful place to be.

And a kid having a smartphone is part of the post. If it was a plain flip phone this would not be an issue.

And the OP did not start the 'should kids have phones' debate either.

Let's keep it on topic please guys.

Kinda seems like porn apps should be in the "Just In" section if they fall into that category of just in. Just like they should be in the "Top free" and the "top paid" if they fit those molds too.

But categorizing definitely isn't the same as censorship. A trip to dictionary.com will settle that debate. I wouldn't mind if apps had tags on them and then a person could cater their searches based on certain tags, porn being one. That's not censorship. That is a company that got rich making search easier actually doing what they did to get famous which is making searching easier. Imagine that!

Appbrain does a very good job at filtering out adult oriented stuff and wave after wave of theme "apps" from their list of latest items to hit the Market.

They still show up in the list, but are shaded gray to blend in with the page background and condensed down so as not to detract from other, more useful applications.

Why is it that some yahoo always butts into a conversation, doesn't boither to read the thread, mouths off and baits everyone into ruining a perfectly good discussion?

IMHO the OP and a bunch of others here had a very good point. The Market is great but lets face it, it could do with a bit of filtering (NOTICE I DID NOT SAY CENSORING). I don't just mean adult or risque apps most of which suck anyway (no pun intended). I mean for broad categories of apps. I mean give me the option to see adult apps, productivity apps, multimedia apps, maps and navigation apps, educational apps, children's apps, etc. right now, unless you want to see Just in, most popular or or a very small handful of categories, you really have to sort through a mountain of crap to find apps you might be interested in.

Google obviously have the capacity to allow users to filter or narrow searches, that's what I think the market needs badly. I can't imagine that swingers or pulpit thumpers would disagree.

As much as I hate scrolling through all the apps past the girls/pr0n, I'd rather google leave it. I'd much rather have an "open" app store than a "closed" app store like Apple...And for those that say "if you search right, you won't see it...". Well, I'm not searching. I like to browse the different categories under apps to see if anything new has come out that I would want. I've found several good apps this way...

I do agree it would be nice if Google found a way to categorize them better...

BTW, I've taken to browsing the market through Androidzoom on my computer. at least there I can do it faster, filter my searches much more deeply, and they have more pre-set categories. It's not perfect, but it is definitely better than browsing on my phone when I'm just exploring to see if there is anything of interest. once I know an app, I can just scan the barcode from my screen or search for the app name in the market and go directly to it.

It would still be nice to have advanced search features and categories in the market.

Oh, grainysands, don't cry, it's okay. No one is going to take your porn away from you. And don't worry, I'm not going to attack you with a Bible. Though I daresay it would probably do you some good to be hit over the head with it. (Of course, the same benefit might be achieved with a rock, or a 2x4, but there I go again, spouting "unproven" theories.)

Oh, and by the way, grainy, you better let all the brains at Princeton know that they are only producing 'nonacademic' research now. I'm sure they'll be happy to hear that from an obviously highly educated fella like yourself. ;) Especially Dr Jeffrey Satinover. You know, the guy with a BS from MIT, a EdM in Clinical Psychology from Harvard, an MD from Univ of TX, a Masters in Physics at Yale, and a PhD in Physics from Nice, who considers it to be as addictive as heroin? Yeah. There's no WAY he qualifies as an academic. You are, without a doubt, WAY more educated on the subject than he is.

Methinks grainysands doth protest too much...you know, speaking of deep dark secrets and all.

Besides, I didn't ask for censoring; I was looking for a filter as well.

You might consider researching the topic of conversation before arguing against something you know nothing about. Otherwise, you just look stupid.

Reminds me of the email Jobs sent out..

"We do give you freedom, freedom from porn apps, freedom from malicious apps, etc, etc"

Ahh, that kind of freedom Steve, the one where you decide what we are free from, forgot about that kind of "freedom"

Anyway i'm pretty sure there is no porn in the android market, only scantily clad women. The kind your child can see on any website/newspaper/magazine/beach.

They should put a category specifically for it like they had on the app store for the palm pre. It was listed under ADULT. Just make a whole category for it and get it out of the rest of the search.

Has anyone had any problems with receiving their Incredible phone from the factory, going into the google search box and having porn sites already in their browsing history?

Can anyone on here help with my question? My boyfriend got a new Incredible phone and was letting me look at it. Just playing around I went to the google search engine and typed in "www" all of a sudden several porn sites popped up in the browser history. He swears up and down that he did not go to these sites and doesn't know how they got there. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm desperate to believe him but it's hard to do..........especially reading about all the porn apps that are available with this phone.

My boyfriend got a new Incredible phone [... ] all of a sudden several porn sites popped up in the browser history.

Could be that it was used as a demo handset in the store, or maybe some of the staff were playing with the stock while putting them on display. Wouldn't be the first time.....

Ok I'm gonna admit that I have not read any of the posts in this thread due to being in a rush but I have to comment on the name itself... IMO there can never be to many pretty girls or enough porn.. well porn is overrated but never enough pretty girls!

It's like getting an STD from using a public bathroom - while in the realm of extreme possibility, It is HIGHLY improbable. Computers don't lie and don't make mistakes, They are literal to a fault. If that info was in there, someone put it there and forgot to wipe out the browser's cache. Unless someone else ran searches on your boyfriend's phone (probable but unlikely), he needs to get more acquainted with his browser's settings, or android's porn surfing apps (they are in the market). Then again, you could also look at what he was watching and the two of you could take this as an opportunity to work on your sex life. Who knows, you both might have fun and learn a new trick or two. :D

Either that or you can buy an Iphone...

BTW, weren't we talking about making the market more search friendly?

ok.. let's be smart about this. Are you a parent? Has anyone else used your phone? Think about it. There has to be an answer. If you're a parent and you don't want kids using your phone, much less for porn, then you have to either lock it or keep it with you at all times.

PM me if you want to talk further...and...

Welcome to Android Forums!

I saw your other post on these forums talked about how you found those web addresses on your boyfriend's phone. Yes it's possible that someone else used his phone to get these addresses in the browser history, but is it really that big of a thing? If this forum tells you that, yes, your boyfriend has been looking at porn on teh internet, is that going to end things for you?

This is blown way out of proportion. You can find A LOT worse on a computer internet browser than you can in the Android market place which makes this discussion moot.

If you (general you - not pointed to anyone) are worried about the Android Market place having pretty women clothed, you are in for a real treat when you check your child's computer history.

On another note (and yes I'm entitled to my humble opinion), I think parents should be ashamed of themselves if they are giving their kids 16 and under highly capable smart phones and punish them for 'exploring' 18+ topics.

18+ then they can make their own decisions on what they browse.

Blaming the industry is moot - it all comes down to parents decisions and monitoring.

ok.. i've had enough of this thread. I'm moving it to your other thread on the same topic. It doesn't belong here in introductions. Welcome, btw.

I agree with this as well. I understand those that do not mind it, or never see it but hear this. When you go to "All apps" and hit "just in" to see all newest apps, there are a million girly apps from all the same 3 market spammers every day. Ok you say, it's under "ALL APPS" and "JUST IN". They're still "apps" and they're new, so of course you'll see them there, Whats the big deal?

Well, try going to something like "Productivity" or "Tools", and "Just In"... and voila, they're there too.. oh, while we're at it, lets look under "GAMES" hey guess what, the SAME apps with girly pictures, wow those are games too?

Fact is, these are market spammers, and it isn't just the girly apps, but I do think there needs to be some kind of filter users can apply to their own markets. It IS annoying when you try to show somebody something in the market and you're scrolling through hundreds of "so sexy sweet girl 01" apps just to see new apps. I've found a lot of cool new apps that are actually useful simply by viewing all new apps, but you have to scroll for a LONG time to get past all the useless garbage and to a lot of people, it does make android give a bad impression to some people.

Main point, and I'm pretty sure this was the main point of the original topic. I don't want it on MY phone.. I don't care if it's on YOUR phone. They need to give ALL of us the ability to decide to somehow filter these out if we prefer, or leave them there if we so wish. Fair enough?

See that's a good idea.

Just like Time Warner Cable has parental control on TV and Websites.

That way the parents have the password and can prohibit certain websites or content.

But to prohibit it completely will bring us closer to the government being able to censor whatever they want on the internet. A bill I'm afraid might be passed one day.

Communist China is already there. Let's not veer in that direction.

See that's the whole point of an open market. If you want it, fine, it's there, but if you don't, you shouldn't have to flip through 10, 20, 30 of these apps each day just because you want to see what new useful apps you can find today.

I'm 20, have a full time job, and my own phone contract and I love a beautiful woman as much as the next guy, but for my personal interest, I prefer to not have to scroll through a gazillion girly picture apps through general daily market browsing for the next cool app. Parental controls would be nice, but I personally would deploy use of an existing filter just to save myself the sheer annoyance of scrolling through all the girly apps.. I'd rather go to the beach.. that way I can get a tan at the same time.. lol.

When you have had a 19 year marriage ruined because your husband was addicted to pornography, then yes, this is a big issue for me. The biggest issue is not the porn, which can be worked out, but the biggest issue would be the lying and the trust factor that goes along with someone being honest with you. P.S. The phone supposedly did not come from the store, but rather was shipped to my boyfriend. Also, we do not live together, but four hours apart so there is no way my children got a hold of his phone. I have a sliver of belief that he is telling the truth only because I would wonder why he would even let me handle the phone if he knew what I might find.
