Root Evo USB Issues, trying to root.

jokrjj788

Newbie
I have a non-rooted evo 4g that I am trying to root, I am currently on 2.3.5.I have tried to install htc sync and the drivers with no luck on 3 computers. I also tried two different usb cables and two sd cards. The problem is that the phone everytime its connected it comes up with "USB Device not Recognized". I even tried to fastboot with still no recognition. Any help would be appreciated. Also tried gingerbreak. no luck.

Is there anyway to temp-root, or root without a computer so I can try the usb fix. Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance..

Hello and welcome jokrjj788 to AF!!
Moved your thread here to help out with rooting your phone.
When you said you couldnt download the drivers/htc sync to 3 different computers, what error, if any, were you getting?
Also, have you seen this guide? try to download the htc sync/drivers from there:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html

It is an excellent write up/guide that we point people to for rooting :)
Also, lets first get more info from your phone.
Pull out battery, while the battery is out, take note of what size sd card you have (yes, sometimes it matters), put battery back into phone.
While holding the volume down button, push the power button.
The next screen that comes up is your bootloader screen.
Post back here all the info that is on it.:)

I have successfully installed the drivers on a (2)windows 7 machine, windows xp machine, and I have also tried getting my macbook to recognize it with not luck. None of the computers will recognize the phone.

I am unable to use any of the methods on the link you provided because I can no get the phone to be recognized by the computer.

I have tried an 8gb(new) sd card and a 4gb sd card.

hmmm, I believe you stated that you have used different cords to no avail.
Have you tried a different usb port?
As far as unlocking and rooting, you will need to have a functioning usb port.
How old is the phone? The usb ports are a known issue on the Evo4G.
Have you tried to blow out the port with "air in a can"?
When you plug in your phone and mount it as disk drive, is that when you get the "USB Device not recognized"?
I would think your computer sees it but does not recognize it.
Let me search around for something about this.

I have tried two different usb cables, which they both work fully with other phones I have to the pc. I have tried all usb connections on my computers. even usb 3.0 and 2.0.

I have tried blowing it out.

I have tried mounting it disk drive, htc sync. none them work, it will charge. In the device manager it shows up as unknown device and I have tried to update drivers and manually point it to the driver it needs, no luck.

Thanks for the help.

ok so this is what you will need to do. this will work on a non rooted device. this should fix your usb card.

go here [ How-To ] Fix SD card not being detected & USB port not working for the fix.

1.to get adb setup download these files:

2.create a foldr and call it android(or anything you want)
3.move the three files to the folder
4.connect your phone to the pc via usb
5.go into the bootloader(power off then press and hold power+vol down, make sure that fastboot is unchecked, settings>apps>uncheck fastboot
6.in the bootloader menu select fastboot(different from the last step)
7.on your pc right click while holding shift on the android folder you just created.
8.select open command window here
9.enter this command and hit enter
Code:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
10.then enter this next
Code:
fastboot reboot

hopefully this should fix your sd card from not being detected.

I have tried that but after the first line it just sits for waiting for device, it has been there for about 10 minutes.

Hmm do you have settings locked to charge only when plugged into usb port or ask upon plugging in?

Just for sh*ts n giggles, is fastboot disabled and usb debugging enabled?

why not use AirDroid to download the files over to the sdcard and go from there? I know you need to have a working usb for Revolution and I think htcdev but not positive. Havent used a method to root a phone in quite a while.

Usb is required to flash unlock code for boot loader unfortunately

have you tried booting up a Linux distro and seeing if that will allow you to see the phone? would be worth it to eliminate that the usb is working or not. if usb is not working then you have other issues however I remember or at least think i remember you stating that it would charge. IF so then its a driver issue and that should be fixable just may take a bit of patience.

Fastboot is diabled and the usb debugging is enabled but still no luck, I even tried to turn it off and on while connected.

I will give that a shot in next couple of days, hopefully it will work.

Thanks for all the suggestions
