Life Reminders

I have repeating reminders for taking out the garbage cans to the road. Now I am starting to use it to remind myself of other things.

You can have a popup or not, customize the sound, have the reminder read to you, etc.

There are a ton of options, and really useful!!

MLB at bat. Without a doubt the most used app on my phone and tablet for 7 months a year.
It's pricey (last year they dropped the price around halfway into the season), but there are live updates on every game, and home and away team audio feeds for each game.

Hi everyone.

Thanks for helping newbies like me with this great thread!

I'm still a newbie in three different ways: new to Android, new to smartphones and new to AndroidForums. I just introduced myself a few days ago.

Just to make clear why I haven't chosen some of the coolest apps mentioned here, it's not just that I'm a newbie, but I'm also unable to pay for apps (no credit card) and my phone is unrooted.

Having said that, these are my choices after one month as an Android user. All of them are free/lite/adware:

(In no particular order)

Call Meter 3G Keep track of your call/data/message consumption. Set up limits, costs, plans, rules, exclude numbers (for example, your free numbers) and more. It shows all-time usage as well as today's usage. Not movable to memory card.

NeoReader Barcode/QR code scanner. Not movable to memory card.

Barcode Generator/Reader Generate a QR Code from a calendar event, contact information, email, geoloacation, phone number, SMS, generic text, URL or Wi-Fi network information. It can read QR codes stored on your device. The only missing feature is the ability to scan using the cam. That's why I have this and NeoReader. Only con is that it can't be moved to memory card.

Android Assistant Amazing tool. I know, I know... someone will pop up and say "Tasker does that and much more!". Just remember I'm unrooted and can't pay for apps :D After installing this, I uninstalled App2SD and SystemPanelLite because I didn't need them anymore. I discovered this app thanks to this thread.

Swiss Army Knife A set of utilities: Led/screen flashlight (you can choose either or both), ruler, timer, stopwatch, compass, leveler, calculator, magnifier (uses your camera's digital zoom). Free and no ads! Afeter installing this, i uninstalled an adware flashlight app.

AppBrain App Market This app is more than just links to Google Play. It's like a social network built around the markets. I discovered this app thanks to this thread

TurnMe Panorama Panoramic image viewer. Instead of the traditional viewing, TurnMe Panorama uses your phone's compass to scroll the image while you move your phone. The image will surround you!

Airdroid lets you connect your phone to your PC and transfer files, messages, contacts, etc. I know it was mentioned one gazillion times before, but I think it would be useful to post this for the newbies who aren't willing to go through all the posts. I discovered this app thanks to this thread

Google+ is a great social netwrok, but it's still like a ghost town. If you have a Google account and still are not using Google+ shame on you. It's far better and looks cleaner yet better than "Failbook". If only Google added the "share" and "report" options to the app... Recent versions have been a bit controversial because a revamped interface wa introduced. It looks cool, but the images and video posts make the text very hard to read.

Facebook Yeah, I have to mention it. I won't even add a link because most likely it's bundled with your device. I won't say what it it because I assume you were not living under a rock for the past 8 years, were you? I don't like the fact that I can't share nor report posts.

Google Goggles Use your camera or load an image to get relevant search results. Amazing app.

Zedge Free goodies for your mobile.

AndroZip File manager, compression/decompression utility, task manager.

Mobile Document Scanner Lite/CamScanner Both do the same thing: scan your documents using the camera nad save to PDF files. I can't make up my mind about which one should I keep. I like MDScan Lite more, but I hate the fact that it can't be moved to my memory card. My phone has very little internal memory and I don't like to install apps on internal memory.

Bonus Track:

This is not an Android app but an App generator (Android/iOS/Windows Mobile).

Conduit Mobile is a web tool that lets you create an app for your wesite. Upload some images, customize the contents and you are ready to go. You can even upload the app to the relevant marketplaces. The free version allows up to 500 installations.

Hope this helps!

Nicely put together list and good details.

Have you had luck with this?

Have you had luck with this?

Yes. I just created an app. You just have to provide images in different sizes, set up a few options, and you are ready to go. It creates apps for Android, iOS and Windows Mobile. You'll need to take some time to create the images and pay attention to the page(s) as every time I took a look, I found more customization settings. Some options are almost hidden or not at first sight.

You can upload the app to the Market, but keep in mind that Google Play requires a fee to be paid. I think it's an one-time fee. It's $23 I think.

Of course you don't even need the market at all. Put the app for donwload from your own site and provide a QR Code and that's all.

Remember that the free version is limited to 500 installations.

I like cloud password manager - it saves me lots of brains i can use for more useful purposes.

Glepp,

I couldn't find an app on Google Play named "Cloud Password Manager." I did find Cloud Free Password Manager and Cloud KeyRing Password Manager.

Is one of these the app you're referring to or is there an "official" name for the app you referenced? Thanks!

Did all that and I don't see the app in the Market ("Play"). Hum.

You won't see your app on Google Play. The last phase is generating the app and then you are taken to a page where you have the option to upload the app to Google Play, Apple App Store, Windows Marketplace and more (don't forget it creates versions for different operating systems). It's not automatic. You'll need a developer account for Google Play. Google charges around $25.

My favorite app would have to be GoSMS. It stayed with me through my Galaxy mini, my Galaxy S and now, my Galaxy Tab. It just does the job, and allows me to stay connected with my hon through Go chat even without load

hey guys!

my best app (for today, im not sure about what would it be next week... lol)

for my android phone... hmmm well, gosms chat (could send msg to buddies w/o load!), WhatsApp (i think apple charge 1.99 for that app... crazy, coz u can get it free for 1 year for android... well apple always charge on app)... I also like Path for android and apple ipod

for my ipod... dragonvale! lol

I had an HTC Eris for over two years, and I really had to choose apps carefully because of storage limitations. Now that I have a Moto Bionic, I have enjoyed reading through this thread. I'll be trying out several apps that were discussed here. Thanks, everyone, for your recommendations!

Impressive! I couldn't keep the Eris for more than 3 days! I was coming from the iPhone 3GS, and the Eris was painful for me. I ended up getting the Droid, even though I HATE keyboards.

Another new favorite of mine... Chrome browser. I love the device syncing. I can be on my Chromebook and find something I want to download, just open Chrome on my phone and open "other devices" it displays any open pages on any other device I am signed in to. With the latest update it is running really smooth and fast also.

I have always liked Chrome on my PC but falling out with it now as it won't load Facebook even when I delete browsing history/cookies etc.
