Root for Devs! possible HDMI on 2.3 and up

ok. im no dev.

but I feel like if i see helpful info I post it, and im not sure which thread to post this in where it would get noticed.

basically, the LG Revolution is a phone on Verizon that has gingerbread AND HDMI working. it also uses the MSM8655 snapdragon cpu and chipset that we have in our phones.

any devs want to take a look at the roms and progress there and see if we can pull any of it into something that makes HDMI work on our cm7 roms?

this thread is for a rom based off the stock gingerbread rom. debloated and stuff. not sure what work would go into pulling hdmi stuff from it but if anyone has an XDA account maybe ask the dev himself?

[Rom][11-14-11]GingerVolt Rom 1.3 - xda-developers

they seem to be having trouble with ICS and CM7 development.

the only reason I started a new thread is becuase I wasnt sure where to best post this info.

if it turns out that it cannot help get hdmi working on our phone, please just let it die naturally :D

ill update if I find any new info, many other phones have our MSM8655 and im trying to see which have hdmi and which have hdmi working in 2.3+

while I would love it if this could this phone is a 4g phone which from what I know means it uses a SIM card to store information. maybe since it is a cdma capable phone though it may help

Please correct me if I am wrong since I am not a developer

I dont know what that means. but the point of this thread was to show developers a gingerbread rom for a similar phone that they might be able to pull the HDMI files from.

in NO way did I intend to make anyone think you could flash this to your phone.

in the link I provided in the first post, do NOT under any circumstances try to flash that to your triumph.

Could we just blend the kernels together and have it boot? I know an a PC it could work because the hardware would be detected during the boot process. I don't know if that happens on an ARM system.

Android is not like windows. that doesnt work. as much as I had hoped ICS would be "that" OS your talking about. how cool would it be for ICS or even the next android version to have generic device drivers like windows and once it boots on any phone it detects and uses whatever it needs. that would be amazing, but I feel its a long, long way off, if possible at all. rom sizes would bloat to accomodate all possible hardware drivers

I was really hoping a dev would see this thread, take a look at that software and maybe, just maayybbee, be able to figure out how to make HDMI work on CM7

I have to use froyocream sandwich for my hdmi and I really miss cm7. especially since it has screen rotations now (so coool)

That would be sweet if Google would do that where it just detected and downloaded drivers for it... Theoretically I don't think it would be that hard, but its way above my head lol. Although I think there's more to it than just drivers... Maybe if they had separate ones for gsm and cdma it might work... Also if you use andro-ID it has functional HDMI out I believe and it is gingerbread. The only thing that doesn't work on it is data...

Which rom are you talking about I haven't heard of andro-id????

omg, i never heard of that.

its gingerbread and HDMI works?

man i wish i knew how to tear apart the rom and make that work on cm7.

I am using HDMI daily now and I really need CM7 hdmi working, cuz I want to pair my BT mouse (cm7.2 has fixes to allow mouses to pair and work natively) that would be so awesome cuz its plugged into my pc monitor

yep and yep. But its no cm7 so it doesn't have the same features and I wouldn't know how to merge it with cm7 either :/. It would be cool though.

CM7 for the MT is built from source code (we have the recipe, except a few components like HDMI that are proprietary and just plug in those parts). The other GB ROMs only have binary releases (already baked), with HDMI working. We need the source code to get it to work on the MT. Even then I don't think there is enough interest for a feature that not many people use. It's nice, but getting ICS working has a lot more appeal, which is what most devs are focusing on these days. Maybe HDMI on that afterwards.

you'd be surprised with how many people use/want hdmi capable phones, with new console-like games and streaming video, its become quite popular i myself use the hdmi very often :D

same. i finally bought the MicroHDMI adapter (which is stupid, any phone with a hdmi port should come with one in the box)

and i use the HECK out of the thing.

I was really surprised though to see that only a handful of phones are even capable of this feature. the Thunderbolt and Dinc2 dont have it.
