Froyo EC05 (DI18 users - Install instructions post 39)!

I still have nothing here in Central Florida.
I even did the factory data reset on EB13 and still nothing...
 
I don't believe there is anything you can really do to force an update. They're not allowing people to manually do it, because of the fiasco that happened last time. I'm guessing they rolled this update out to a very few select group over the first day or two to see what kind of response it got.

If all was fine and dandy, then over the next few days, they would roll it out to everyone at a much higher pace.

In all honestly...you can't do anything, so just wait it out.
 
Got the OTA update this morning. My phone was box stock (except for apps).
Nothing was happening until I did the factory reset, then all of a sudden, the download was in progress... Coincidence? Maybe. Don't know...

Anyway, everything works fine after reinstall of apps...

About 10pm last night I started getting the message from my phone:

SYSTEM UPDATE

A system update is ready to install. Your phone will restart and install the update. You will not be able to make any calls, including emergency calls, during installation.

INSTALL NOW INSTALL LATER MORE INFO...

The 'more info' tells me:

MR4 EC05 system update
Downloaded and verified 91.5mb

This update includes an update to Android 2.2 Froyo, Sprint ID and several minor system enhancements that address potential performance issues on your device. The update will require that your phone is rebooted and it will not be available for emergency calls while installing the software after download.


I have had an Epic 4G from the date of release basically, and never rooted it. I didn't get the OTA last time so I am running firmware version 2.1-update 1, build SPH-D700 ECLAIR.DI18

I have been pushing "Install Later" and it reminds me every hour or so.. I've been paranoid about saying yes to this because of the problems other people had with the fail update that came out a month or so back.

I'm also not 100% certain what I should do to backup my settings, etc. before I do this. I will backup my SD card to someplace else, of course and I can use appbrain and an app like 'appinstaller' to reinstall my actual apps, etc.

So basicall - I could install the OTA ec05 update at any time but I was waiting to see what it did to other people's phones first, in case it is a tragedy again! :confused:
 
It's interesting that they are claiming Sprint ID is included with this update. I installed EC05 on my wife's phone manually a few nights ago and Sprint ID was definitely not in there. As far as I was aware it was the full, unaltered zip of EC05 and not stripped down in any way by anyone.

From all the information i've gathered it seems like only people with 2.1 are getting the update. I haven't heard anyone with eb13 getting it yet. It may be soon time to flash to 2.1....
 
This is my first smartphone and it's hard as hell to find a single place online for newbies which tells you in non-techie terms how to properly go through an update, etc.

I'm essentially expecting to have to start over with the phone, thankfully all the contacts, email, etc. comes from google so it can't get lost but I imagine I will have to reinstall every app, and redo their settings etc yeah?

Well I will probably do this after work so I can post here again, but I am sure by then other people will have done it and posted already. I just don't want my awesome phone to get less awesome because of a bungled update from Sprint/Samsung.

I've looked at tons of other android phones and it's really amazing to me how much better the epic looks and runs. Even looking at the Evo at the time I was disappointed by how choppy the thing felt. I'd just hate to install an official update and have the Epic lose that snap and clean, efficient feeling it has doing everything. ;P
 
Still nothing in north florida.i was going to do the reset but it said i had a prl&profile update&before wldnt let me update it but said no software update but now i cant update firmware,prl or profile.i get the error occured trying to update on each of them. Says if the problem persists please call customer service. Error: unknown error. Any suggestions? This is my 1st smartphone.its stock DI18,unrooted.
 
I had stock epic and it never got pushed to me so I just did the manual one last night which I had to do twice because the first time it screwed up and my phone just kept rebooting.
 
Somthing just popped up on my screen and before i could read it, as i was walking in my drs office,i glanced down and only saw "must force close update" or something to that effect, but those four specific words i saw for sure. Maybe i should head over to a sprint store when i leave here,..this is driving me insane!!!
 
I tried doing the update.zip to EC05 and it didn't work, said there was an error. I am on EB13.
But for OTA, still nothing in Florida. I've done a few System Data Restore's and still nothing.

**EDIT** I am an idiot and didn't read about the update.zip, please disregard. :D
 
I just got a Sprint Zone news thing in my notification bar.
Says "Software Update Coming Soon" Then when you click on it, it talks about Sprint ID and how to use it.

IDK if that really bothers me... What's the difference between EC05 & EB13? I had no issues when I went to EB13 (OTW from stock DI18) and my Epic runs faster with much improved battery (over DI18). What is EC05 going to provide that makes it worth going through a factory reset and being forced to take Sprint ID anyway?

Maybe if it includes the airplane mode and DRM fixes...
 
In Waco,Texas nothing here yet! Called customer service last night for sprint and they walked me thru a hardset but no ECO5 came thru.And still having alot of issues with my froyo i hate it! I just want it to work right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I told the man i am thinking of going to iphone he said oh no it will come thru soon but what time is it and still nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Assuming you are on DI18, check out post 39 on how to manually install the update.
