Froyo EC05 (DI18 users - Install instructions post 39)!

Wait... So if I got the Sprint pushed and developed and approved f'd up EB13, I'm somehow responsible to do a RTN (whatever that is) to get their crappy mistakes off of my phone in order to get the allegedly "fixed" version of Froyo (EC05)?

That's not acceptable. They messed my phone up and they should fix it. If not, I'm seriously considering making some phone calls to a lawyer I know who handles consumer class action lawsuits.

EPIC FAIL!

I think suggesting a class action suit is abit much and would probably fail. You can have sprint bring you back to eclair and then wait fo the ota. You would most likely freak out more i they pushed ec05 on your eb13 and had it cause major issues.

Are you crazy? Really? Just march yourself to a sprint store and have them restore you to eclair. I think a class action suit over software upgrades will fail and is ridiculous. It's not a great thing to have happen, but if theyre having issues going from eb to ec and that ruined your phone, you'd probably go even more nuts.

Exactly. If you are unable to go to a Sprint store then refer to my post about using Odin to flash back to DI18. Once I did that, the update immediately appeared.

No update.... running stock eb13....

No. We're screwed. Sprint broke our phones and now they are leaving us behind unless we root, void our warranty, and manually update.

If you find this as unacceptable as I do then those of us stuck with EB13 should get together, contact a lawyer, and start a class action lawsuit against Sprint. The only thing the giant corporations understand anymore is legal action and the threat of losing real money.

It's 03/25/2011 and still running 2.1 Rep @ sprint not sure when its going out, did'nt we see this a while back with the first froyo update?

Last night I got a message from Sprint saying there is an update coming out soon. Now, here I am and the OTA update is downloading and installing! :D

Was running DI18 from Seattle, WA.

So they pulled it huh?

EPIC FAIL!

I'm really starting to think that this phone is a doomed lemon. It's a very expensive lemon.

I'm mad as Hell and I want my money back. I hate this buggy EB13 version. Sprint needs to fix this or we should start a class action lawsuit.

Yes, yes. We got it. Settle down, Clarence.

Sprint pushes the updates. Samsung is the manufacturer. Go bitch to them.

And knock of the class action whining. It gets old hearing it every time something does not go someones way.

Exactly. Or if your too lazy to go into a Sprint store then refer to my post about using Odin to flash back to DI18. Once I did that, the update immediately appeared.

I had the EB13. Flashed back to DI18 via Odin this morning and the update appeared all of a sudden!

Sprint has greatly consolidated it "repair stores" and 90% of sprint stores cannot roll you back.Tehre are states with no repair store. My closest is 40 minutes each way. so don't call the user "lazy." I know how to Odin, but it is safe to say that huge nubmers of users wont want to break warranty and/or dont know how to odin. these phones are mass marketed.

I was told to rN this morning and that is MORE bad advice from sprint since RTN will keep the eb13 on what was an originally d18 phone, menaing it will remove everything EXCEPT the inability to OTA to EC05!

Sprint upper tier says that the info posted by a mod on sprint community forums was wrong and they currently have NO path from eb13 to ec05.

Users with ota to eb13 essentially have the buggiest smartphone in existence wth sprint tracking major known issues on huge losses of battery life, orientation issues, exceptionally poor data connectivity, data card issues and more

So Odin'ing back to DI18 is the only way one can get the right path to EC05.

Class action is not "whining", corporations worrying abound them are frequently what it gets things fixed.

We are talkign about the Epic here, the phone where users were charged $10 more for 4G service that was worse than 3G for the first two months. You can bet it was worring about class action tha thad them gete of teh dime after a month of denying the issue to callers.

What do you mean?
I mean that no one with eb13 (bug ridden froy from feb) is able to update through normal ota (over the air update) to ec05. If you call yuo will be told to RTN (factory reset "return to new"). RTN does in fact not work. it kills all your settings, programs etc but not the eb13 (feb froy) for which sprint currently has no OTA upgrade path to ec05 (march froyo)

Yes I know. There is no OTA for EB13 users.
You have to Odin back to DI18 then you will receive EC05.

Durham, NC, got the update this morning 3/25/11 @ ~10:30 EDT.

I was glad to see that the Sprint ID stuff wasn't automatically applied to my homescreens.

I was glad too.
I was worried they would make us choose an ID pack from the start.

Pardon my ignorence. I'm still new at this. :)
But if I Odin'd back to DI18, is that considered rooting to where it would void the warranty?

Using it in theory can void your warranty. My guess is that 95% of the furious Epic owners with the massively buggy eb13 are not going not know what Odin is or how to use it and are going to rely on continuing bad sprint advice such as RTN and wast hours of their time losing setings and still be stuck with the buggy software. Even applying the Odin is not a simple task for most users and uses a fair amount of time.

It is clear to me that even though samsung had the absolute bottom of the barrel reputation for support, a lot of people had some hope that would change with the fact that they became a leading seller with galaxy. One only has to look at postings the weeks before the release of the epic to see all the samsung spin that they had turned over a new leaf. They haven't.

I am almost 100% positive Samsung will release an OTW for all other users not on DI18. or another OTA update.

Well they promised Froyo for us by december. So what does the fact that you and I are "positive" they will eventually get some update (sprint is actually now tracking some serous problems with ec05 including data corruption of SD cards) .

The point of this incredibly late update and the buggy half attempts is this is a giant fiasco that shows they don't care about devoting the proper amount of resources to highly profitable device.
