I've been on 3.4.2 for almost a month now. Battery life surpasses every rom i've tried for the X. (FlyX, Liberty, Apex, Fission, Gummy, TranQ, Rubix, Darkslide, SS, Cobalt, Obsedian,Re-EngineeredX) Its ridiculously smooth and have yet to have any issues. 3G seems to always be on, blur seems like its more clean.
I asked cvpcs if i could have a copy of the CM7 he has sorta working on his DX. He tweeted that only his phone will let it boot. I'll have access to four rooted Droid Xs in a few hours and wanted to see if i could get it booted on any of them, no response =/

I'm still running it and it's good enough until the next release of, well, any ROM, cuz you know I'm going to flash the next new ROM that comes out.
FYI, RubiX 2.0.1 is faster and smoother too
It is pretty smooth for a Blur based ROM though, definitely smoother than ApeX.

Haha as much as I admire you and respect your opinion, we are going to have to agree to disagree on this. I was on Rubix 2.0.1 before I flashed 3.4.2 and I thought it was a definite improvement.
Fission is the only one I haven't tried and the more you guys talk about it the more I think about giving it a go.
I just feel like something is going to break here in the near future. Be it new versions of the existing ROM's or possibly a ROM based on the 3.4.2 leak, I just have this feeling. Probably just gas or something
but one can dream right?

Well I should have added that it depends on each particular phone.....some ROMs run better than others on certain phones.....for example, ApeX never ran particularly well on my phone (3.4.2 ran much better). ApeX lagged too much for me in certain areas, as where the the ROMs that I tend to use don't lag in those areas (or in any other areas for that matter), that's why I tend to use them instead.
But if 3.4.2 runs great for you, that's awesome man!

apex didn't play nice w/go launcher, but lib 1.5 does, fyi.
Have you tried using Go Launcher with Apex since the latest Launcher updates? It works flawlessly for me.

It's not so much that they ran poorly, they just didn't run to my expectations, so I used the one's that ran or exceeded my expectations
Of course, everything's personal opinion to a certain extent.

Yep, and I still have the issue of widgets jumping around and doubling. It's random though, and they typically jump around on a reboot. Otherwise I love GL, and it's not a big enough deal to keep me from using it. I just delete the offending widget and re-add it where its supposed to be.

I saw it......gonna really suck if all manufacturers end up locking the bootloader in Moto fashion. The future is looking bleak.

But obviously we've lived with our amazing dxs that handle almost everything we throw at it. I have that view that its just a phone but also at the moment it is my ONLY working computer and it works great. If anything with future phones we well be in the same exact boat we are in now. Jussayin.

Maybe I've just missed something big (Dx was my first android), but what would we gain over what we have now by having an unlocked bootloader? I know we can't use CM7 and it sounds like we could if there wasn't a locked bootloader, but couldn't that ROM also be tweaked to work on the Dx if they wanted to put the time into it? So far we can root, ROM, OC, UC, overvolt, and undervolt. What other advantages would we gain? Would ROMs run more stable b/c they aren't working around the bootloader? Sorry for all the questions. Oh, and I'm assuming P3's tweet was about the Tbolt having a signed bootloader.

It's all about the kernel. The kernel is the core of the functionality in the phone and the OS.
With a locked bootloader, we can't update the kernel, which means new features aren't available, new operating systems (like Gingerbread or Honeycomb) can't be implemented by devs, and totally ground-up custom ROMs like CyanogenMod aren't within reach.
There's a difference between tearing up some of the system files to modify the OS a bit, and actually being able to, say, upgrade to a version of Android that Motorola isn't supporting. Most of the system mods right now are only removing Motorola's additions to Android, and doing cosmetic changes on top of the OS. That's all great, it makes the phone faster, but it's not really enhancing functionality.

While I do not like it, I have come to accept it. I agree we have found ways to make the X better with having an locked bootloader. The X is hands down the best phone I have ever touched, and it was out of the box. With the changes that we have been able to make there is no reason for me to upgrade right now.
That being said I went to bed Sunday night so happy when the reports were out that the bootloader had been cracked, only to go to bed Monday night pissed at the world. I know there is more that this phone can do.
To be honest though how many people are even going to know and care about this? 5%, maybe 10% and if there is nothing else to go to this 10% is going to still buy what is out there.
My question is how much of this is directly or indirectly coming from the carriers? I am sure Verizon can not be happy when some one messes up their phone and takes it in all upset that the phone stopped working and then they have to give them a new one, when really that person jacked it up and didn't know how to fix it themselves. I have seen it many times on these boards where people have done something they should not have and bricked their phone (not bad enough that a SBF would not fix it) and not know how to fix it and blame the phone or Verizon.
They would never go for this, but I would love to see them sell the locked versions, which 90%+ of the people would buy. But have a unlocked version that if you buy it is yours and there are no returns. If you break it you've bought it. This would be a way to make everyone happy, but I am sure it would not be cost effective for the carriers so it will never happen.

Moto doesn't care about us. Why should they? Their primary goal is to woo the corporate user group. If they can get a company to replace their Blackberries with Moto phones company wide, that's much more attractive/profitable to the Moto bigwigs.
Moreover, those of us "in the know" don't do enough to persuade the OEM's to give us other options. My room mate, a pretty smart/techy guy, wanted to get a new phone and decided to get an Atrix. I talked, at length, about Moto's policies and about the Atrix specific lock down issues, but he went ahead and bought it anyway only to find out that:
1. he can't sideload apps so he can't install that cool email app I'm using.
2. he can't root the phone and tether (a primary reason for buying the phone) because AT&T will automatically ad the tether plan to your bill,
and more.
We're gonna get screwed till we do something about it; but we (collectively) don't. In the end, I blame the SHEEP - who refuse to think about the over-arching reasons behind what the carriers and OEMs are doing - and the sell outs - who justify or try to minimize the importance of kernels or whatever. Next, it will be a method to prevent you from rooting, then which maps app you can use or something else. And you'll keep ignoring/justifying it till you cede ALL your rights to the corporations and wake up to find out that you have nothing left.
My next phone will likely be an LG or a Samsung (maybe HTC if they stop this Incredible 2 nonsense) and hopefully a Google branded phone. If Verizon locks down all their phones, I'll go to another carrier. I made a mistake with the DX (hoping for an unlock) and I won't make it again. As Bush said: fool me once, you can't fool me again!
