Google Wallet - No Root Needed :)

Just an update so everyone can learn from my experience.

As I posted earlier, after a new device Google Wallet wouldn't except my Citicard. As several of you mentioned (and were correct) I had not "deactivated" the Wallet on the old phone. I actually didn't even know you needed to do that. I just hard reset the phone and sent it on it's way. Anyway, a call to Google Wallet was quite pleasant (and interesting).

The sales rep took COMPLETE ownership of my issue (even though he couldn't resolve it). He was extremely friendly and asked me "where did you get the Google Wallet from". I immediately thought, oh here we go...and I honestly told him I found it on the forums. He said "Oh OK, we have an official APK to support the Samsung Galaxy Nexus...I just wanted to make sure you were using the right APK". Huh, go figure. They do support our phone. :) Anyway, nothing he could do but give the Citi number.

I called Citi and got an immediate sales rep, no hold time. She told me that each Citi card can only be associated with one wallet. (Which on a side note sucks if my wife would have a Nexus...both our card numbers are the same...so one of us couldn't use wallet). Anyway, she went into her system...cleared the old phone's info and it immediately worked when I tried to associate the new phone with my card. Problem solved.

So lesson learned. And for everyone else...deactivate wallet before switching phones or you'll have to call Citi (which isn't that painful...since both companies offered a great customer service experience.)

Thanks for the tip. I linked my GW to my Citi MC and it works fine. My wife also has a GN but I did not add GW to her phone yet. Good thing I did not link the same card to her phone. Interesting dilemma. That kind of sucks if only one phone can have a card associated with it.

Dang it. Just called their support desk to confirm (1-877-762-2989) and, no apologies, the confirmed the one account / one phone rule. No talk of changing this (not that the rep knows of, anyway). The only solution is for my wife to open a separate account.

I asked if they have a "suggestion box," since I'm not the only one who sees this as an issue; the rep said he'd make the request.

Shouldn't be much longer before GW opens up other banks.

Just made my FIRST GW purchase at home depot today!

It was so fast I didn't think it worked at first :)

Just made my first at 7-11. tried at McDonald's a few weeks ago and it didn't work even after a couple tries.
I was surprised how fast it worked too.

Subject: You can now add your Google Prepaid Card back to your Google Wallet

Hello,

As you may have experienced over the last few weeks, we temporarily disabled the feature to add the Google Prepaid Card back to your wallet if you previously removed the card or reset your wallet. We temporarily disabled this feature to ensure the security of our Wallet customers. We recognize this may have been an inconvenience for you, and we did not make this decision lightly.

We are happy to announce that you can now add the Google Prepaid Card back to your wallet with the newest version of Google Wallet, and any funds that you previously had on the card should be restored, unless you contacted Money Network and asked for a refund of those funds. To add the Google Prepaid Card back, you will first need to update your Google Wallet application to the most recent version.

To compensate you for any inconvenience this may have caused, we have credited an additional $5 (five US dollars) to your Google Prepaid Card. If you have further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us at 855-492-5538.

Thank you for your continued support of Google Wallet, and we look forward to launching many new and exciting features for you to enjoy in the coming months.

Sincerely,
The Google Wallet Team

So is there an actual updated (new version) of Wallet? I'm still seeing the Feb 29th update as current in the Play Store.

I ended up going back to my non-functioning pre-paid card, selected the "try again" button, and after a minute or so of network activity, my functionality was restored... with $5 added to my account.

I still don't know if GW updates are going to be pushed to my Nexus since I can't see the app from my Google Play app, only from a browser session if I'm not signed in.

Yeah still no dice this morning. I wonder if it is because I never actually lost functionality. I was unable to add funds for a few days, but was always able to use my pre-paid card...

just FYI, now that the GNEX is sold in the US by the big G, i went into the play store and was able to download wallet onto my unlocked gsm gnex! And they gave me $10 credit add that to the $5 from the previous time and i'm at $15 LOL w00t

I went to the gas station and walked in, paid for gas with my Verizon Nexus with Google Wallet. The woman behind the counter (I'm in Tennessee) was just as country as you can find.

As soon as the phone beeped, signalling that the transaction was successful, she looked at me with the most serious, deadpan face and said...

"Whut did yew just DEW?"

I LOVE Google Wallet for that reason alone!

:D

You are really proud of that story aren't you ;) I guess I have no room to talk, I was beaming after the cleaning lady at work asked if I had a magic phone.

So before I rooted my phone, I installed Wallet and got the $10. After I rooted, it said my device is unsupported because of the root. Anyway around this? Will it still work?

It should still work. I'm also rooted and get the unsupported device warning but I was still able to use it at a PayPass terminal.

Only if you install it through the Market install option. If you side loaded the apk of wallet you won't be able to get upgrades.

No longer the case. Even if the workaround method is used to install it through Google Play, the Wallet app no longer is listed on Installed apps. While the work-around method continues to work for me to install and update Wallet on my stock Verizon Nexus, I have to seek out the updates manually.
