Root [GUIDE] Brick Recovery

not sure if we are doing same thing. I am not currently rooted. On stock zv5.
Havnt been able to figure out how to change ports if thats needed. Is dl mode when u use power button and down volume key? If so have done that but once ur in there do u just reboot normally?
You change the port in device manager on your computer. Download mode is accessed by turning off the phone and holding volume+ while plugging in the USB cable connected to your computer.

volume+ doesn't seem to do anything....volume - puts me into where u reset phone. Ive looked all over but cant find where port settings r in device manager

I was able to root my BM LG Volt Zv5 using the One Click Root v1.2. I tried to use the graphical version but it errors out after looking for LG serial port. Using the command prompt worked perfect, though you have to be patient when it looks for device, I think it was maybe between a 5 to 10 minute wait before it got past that and started the process. I just wanted full sd card access again now I have that. Thank you for this thread!

While apparently am rooted...as of yesterday...as of this writing have not touched a thing but today this phone is really reacting VERY slow and almost unresponsive and delayed to touch and access to apps. Have no idea what may be the problem...so far worked better before root....is there anything in this one click method that effects phone

All it does is push the su binary to the system. Does nothing that would impact performance.

Turn off the phone and pull the battery for a couple minutes and see if it acts better.

What graphical version are you talking about? Link?

Thank you bg4m3r so far pulling battery seems to have helped responsiveness..hopefully that will last...at moment have no plans on changing roms but would like to figure out putting a recovery in to back up system

If you are rooted, just download Flashify to install the TWRP recovery (KitKat version) found in this forum.

Yes, that is the Flashify I'm referring to.

We only have TWRP, and it's only on this forum. (Link in the guide) You aren't going to find it in any of the apps or general guides out there. (It was made by our in house devs)

There was a CWM, but it displayed issues with certain ROMs and TWRP is much more refined.

In general, there doesn't seem to be much main stream support for this phone since it's a lower end device. Anything you want our need is going to be found here. We've found some things out there that work for us, but they weren't developed specifically for this phone.

Just downloaded flashify.....does this app do a backup or do I also need twrp...All I really want to do is save a cpy of current stock system and configuration to use if I ever needed to do a factory reset

All Flashify does is backup the stock recovery and install TWRP. You're safest move is to make a full backup with TWRP. Then you won't need to do a factory reset. Note that nandroid backups do not save the internal user storage.

Its been a while since I last did this with the zte warp and was easier...then I used cwm...If Im understanding correctly would flasify be more like a factory reset?

No, not in the slightest. All it does is backup your stock recovery and install TWRP.

BTW... The deodexed zv5 ROM is fixed. He messed up uploading the new build before. The correct one is available now.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I just ordered the volt. Will it come with ZV5? Just want to be prepared to root asap. Thanks

After installing the zv5 ROM and Radio is it supposed to do a System update after the reboot like it did after flashing zv3 Firmware?

Edit: Never mind, I just reflashed zv3 firmware and before upgrading to zv4 I quickly flashed the radio image and then restored stock recovery. After that it upgraded to zv3 - zv4 and then zv4 - zv5. Gonna root it now and flash the ROM. Many thanks for this! Love my rooted ls740 ;)

Sounds like you kind took the hard road, but glad you got it all together. :)

Updated the OP a bit. Made it clearer that the original guide is old and outdated and should only be used if all else fails. I also recently completely redid my phone and rerooted using DP Tools, so I've made it an official method. :)
