Root [GUIDE] Brick Recovery

I was under the impression that they all started at ZV3 cuzy first Volt did & I've read 3 others recently that said they were on ZV3 also. But the Kingroot say I used that on ZV5, couldn't I flash with good ol flashify the twrp image, than the zv5 rooted rom deodexed or odexed & then I wouldn't have to worry about kingroot cuz I've read that it's a tad bit shady LOL but I've also read that with a factory reset you loose root with kingroot so by flashing a prerooted rom it should take care of that kingroot stuff! Please does anyone smarter than me have any insight? Please & thank you!
What you are describing would work, but why not just use DP Tools?

If you do use your method, be sure to wipe all parts of the phone (system, data, cache, dalvik, internal and external memory) before flashing the new ROM to make sure KR is totally removed.

I've used the one click root by aveioh think I'm spelling it wrong but I used it on my Tribute & it worked says it will work for the Volt roo but is the dp tos eaiser? & if I'm on zv3 when I turn on my phone can I just towelroot, flash twrp flash supersu than flash the zv5 prerooted rom one of them with the radio fix! Cuz honestly I don't own a computer at the moment but may be able to use one. Which twrp should I use the KitKat or lollipop? Just wanna do it right the first time!

Instead of speculating about various options, wouldn't it be simpler for you to tell us what your new Volt comes with? Then we can give you answers targeting that exact version.
I started on zv4 but updated to zv5 i found a old desktop running vista, installed the drivers on it no problem than tried dp & one click it said the net framework needed to be updated or something?i haven't a clue but both stopped when trying to run the progrAms, anyone have any ideas?

Well DP Tools worked! Im now rooted on ZV5 thank you to everyone in the volt community! Which recovery should i flash, can anyone plwase chime in, not sure which one works the best & is the newest. Again thank you everyone who made this possible!

Glad you're rooted. For others reading the question raised in the previous post is the only "gotcha" that I experienced and I've described the solution in post #700. I'm sure others will chime in on the recovery issue. The main reason I rooted was to control data usage - I can get by with under 10MB a month (under 5MB most months) when rooted so I've not changed my recovery.

This worked flawlessly on V5!

Rooted and installed TWRP on friends LG VOLT w/o issues within 30min!

phone specs: factory, before rooting
LG VOLT (LG LS740)
ANDROID: 4.4.2
baseband: mpss.di.2.0.1.c8-m8926daaaanazm-1.8597.1
kernel: 3.4.0+
build: KOT491.L5740ZV5
SOFTWARE: L5740ZV5

used dp+tools, did the root option, then used flashify to flash TWRP

Any advice... I got sick of not having enough space for apps so I used the DP Tools method and I'm rooted what do I need to do now? Flash a recovery? A custom Rom? Gapps? etc... Links? Best/ verified works....

Update I've flashed the twrpvoltv2_bumped.img using Flashify

as of yet, there is not custom rom, atleast not one stable. there are some Odexed, Deodexed roms, in this Root Guide. i think they are on the xdev site.

once its rooted, its fine. no need to do anything else. Though i havent tried any free wifi hotstop for it yet.

Thank you,

I'll keep following this thread in case of any changes. Also ... after getting Link2SD set up most of my apps were able to be re downloaded but some (mostly google apps, gmail, play music etc..) giving me insufficient storage available errors when I have very little internal storage even being used....

woo hoo lg one click root worked!!!'

now if only my poor sd slot would come back to life magicaly.

since we can root does this mean lg will push a new unrootable android to our phones say 5.0/5.1?

I HAVE THE SAME EVERYTHING AS YOU AND I CAN'T GET IT TO WORK AT ALL AND IT'S REALLY FRUSTRATING ME! Whenever I click 'root device' in DP Tools it says it can't detect the LG serial port and that I have to manually boot into Download mode, but I have no idea how to do this. The directions it gives me does nothing. The only thing I can do is boot into recovery and that doesn't help me at all. I'm stuck with this guys, can anyone help me? All I want to do is true root so I can install SuperSU instead of Superuser and it's turning out to be an insanely frustrating ordeal.

To boot into download mode, turn off the phone and disconnect it from the computer. Hold Vol+ while plugging in the USB and continue holding Vol+ until download mode appears.

I actually figured this out last night but it still didn't root. I've only tried using DP Tools though. I'm going to try LG One Click today but if that doesn't work does that mean that I'll need to go through the entire depreciated method?

EDIT: Well LG One Click says that it completed the rooting process but when I check to see if the phone's rooted with Root Checker it tells me that it isn't. What's going on? DP Tools is also telling me my device is not rooted.

Well I just factory resetted my phone after backing up my phone numbers manually in notepad in hopes that it would unroot, uninstall the superuser app and supersu (which isn't even installed because I can't update the binary AND I'm not even rooted, yet I can't uninstall the application somehow?!) and it didn't do that at all! Even so, I tried to root using DP Tools, it confirmed for me that I was rooted, yet when I went to check root it told me I wasn't rooted. I am at a whole new level of super seriously ****ing frustrated. Can anyone please tell me what the hell is going on and how I can fix it without having to buy a new phone?

Okay sorry for the triple post but I'd like to go ahead and apologize to anyone who's time I wasted with my last two posts. I realize now after having taken some time to explore this forum and read through some of the 'before you root' threads that I acted in haste with my device and none of y'all deserve to hear my ignorant and annoying ranting about why my phone's not rooting properly. With that said I'd like to say that I'm going through the depreciated method right now and things are going smoothly so far! I don't have a microSD card yet so I'm going to have to pause at Step 4 for now but if I manage to succeed with this process I'll be sure to let everyone know. Thanks again for making this guide:)

UPDATE: Everything works fine! I'm firmly rooted. The only thing that went wrong was that my data went out after everything was finished but that Boost APN fix you linked worked like a charm. Thanks again so much!

I followed your steps but I can't connect my Volt to the computer. It's telling me that I'm missing the MTP files. Can you help with that?

I've noticed a way to restore complete carrier identification without a need to flash anything!

Here's what I did:

1) Flash the stock firmware, "Board DL" I usually had to upgrade and then Board to get my carrier identification back but don't!

2) After flashing is done, boot up and put the device into airplane mode (Optional, I just did it so it wouldn't start the Upgrade and take up allot of data...)

3) Go to phone and type the following in "5689#*740# "
(I suggest you remove your SD Card, as this will erase everything on it if you do not)

4) Tap "Factory Reset" and then tap "Factory Reset (Power Off)

5) This should boot down your device and wipe everything...

When you boot back up it will Activate your device and then after the PRL update it will reboot and you should have your carrier identification back!

This worked for me so it should work for you as well :)

I'm sorry if this question has been asked already, and if so, I'd appreciate it if someone could point me to the relevant post.

Anyway, I rooted my Volt back in February and upgraded to ZV5 using steps 1-8 from post No. 1 (by the way, I forgot to thank bg4m3r for the great instructions--thank you also to everyone who contributed to them!).

Everything was fine until a couple of weeks ago, and then my phone starting running out of memory left and right (like it was doing before I rooted it), and as of today, it can no longer connect to my WiFi.

I verified root access with Root Checker, and the phone is still rooted. Does anybody have any ideas as to why my phone is acting so weird? Is there an updated ROM for ZV5 that I could flash or something?

Thanks in advance.

***Update: The WiFi connectivity issue turned out to be a problem with my Internet provider, so please disregard that part.

You could try going into recovery and clearing cache and dalvik cache. I had the same issues and ended up flashing candy ROM and never looked back

Thanks for posting that. Previously I had a phone where I was going to use it unactivated as media player, and I wanted to remove the carrier ID. The only way I could find to do that was to reflash the ROM via the LG flash tool. It sounds like the dial code you posted might do the trick.

I tried to follow the procedure here to flush any rom back on my phone.
The download mode never shows firmware update (do not unplug the USB connection untill this process is complete) screen. Download mode just sits in --portchange-- step (see 01.jpg) nevermind how long do i press volume up key.

I also tried to do something in Android System Recovery <3e> but see 02.jpg what happens there,

if i try to access sdcard, i also get "failed to mount /sdcard (no such file or directory)" or "(Invalid argument)", see 03.jpeg.
Can this phone be saved?

Yes! You have to back to Z3 stock. The procedure is located up in the #1 post.

WARNING: You will lose data in the downgrade process. Prepare your phone accordingly.

What you will need:
zv3 stock tot file (Mirror) - DL to computer
MD5 = 0D7AAAFB6742CEAB7BCAEECBAE3C1F39
LG Flash Tool 1.8, Megalock, and LS740 DLL - DL to computer
MD5= C1825BA208611B23B9B0D4aBDD0C5731
LG Universal Drivers - DL to computer

Then Follow these Instructions!!
+ Install Driver
+ Install LG Flash Tool to the ROOT drive of your PC (C:/) and wait until complete; then close out of it.
+Copy all 3 files you downloaded: "MegaLock.DLL + LS740.DLL + ZV3 Stock .TOT file" and place them into the directory you installed LG FLASH TOOL to. Should be located: C:\>LG>LG Flash Tool>

RESTART YOUR PC HERE!

+Shut off your phone. While holding down the VOLUME UP button; plug in the USB cable; This boots into DOWNLOAD MODE; Set your phone aside.

**Note: In Device Manager on your computer, find LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port (under Ports) and set it to port 41 (COM41). The same Ports as the first square is labeled on the LG FLASH TOOL!
-Mine WAS NOT correct the FIRST time I tried, resulting in no connection!

-Open the LG Flash Tool. On the config window, make it look like the picture below:
(note the DLL, S/W, and Action Mode) and hit OK.

-On the main window in LG FLASH TOOL hit the yellow arrow at the far left.
-Once it finishes, unplug the cable from the computer; and plug it back in to start the flashing process.
*If phone goes to restart, Shut it off, and hold the VOLUME UP button and Plug in the USB to Start it into download mode just like the first time.

-When the phone is done and reboots, it will boot into the MiniOS setup screen.
(You can now disconnect the phone and close the Flash Tool.
Don't worry about any fail messages from the flash tool.)
On the MiniOS screen, hold power button in and press Normal Boot.

Rebooting will take several minutes, DON'T PANIC! :)
If you don't have service, just use ##72786# dialer code to reactivate.

***I then have had errors from this point on sometimes. The solution is to do a FACTORY RESET from the systems settings menu. That will fix any problems from basically "dirty flashing" a stock ROM.

This is the instructions copied from above and made into a .JPG:
