Root [GUIDE] Brick Recovery

Apparently not as well as in thought. New at this, still learning. Thank you for your help!
BTW, not a bro. Guess I'm a sista lol
Oops, my bad. I was just giving you a hard time. ROMs are all in the root forum, for future reference. There's a custom kernel and some CM ROMs as well as custom and stock KitKat ROMs.

Not even sure what all that means but I'm trying to figure it out. Bricked and unbricked a couple phones tho, I got that down fer sure

Being able to fix your messes is almost more important than getting it right. ;p

What exactly are you wanting to accomplish in tinkering?

Whenever I try to start the LG Flash Tool it pops up an error saying, "LG USB/Parallel Lock Key is not detected!!!" and then asks for a country, id, and password. What exactly am I doing wrong, here?

Edit: Nvm, I was typing this as another person solved it for me.
How did the other person resolve it for you? Trying to restore my soft bricked LG Volt

Since I haven't rooted an LG Volt in a while, what's new with the DP Tools method? After I do root with DP, can I just flash TWRP with Flashify and install CM12.1 or another rom just like that? Or do I have to unlock the bootloader just like the old one? If so, could you link me to a fourm with how exactly I can do that?

We've never unlocked the bootloader. Just flash and go. :)

OK. Wasn't sure if it was bootloader, or what but someone helped me before and I went into fastboot or something. But I'll take your word on it. :)
The fastboot unlock command can be used, but it doesn't actually unlock anything. This phone seems to like to make you think you've done something when you haven't...it will let you use a kernel with overclock, set it to a faster speed, but then not actually be faster, lol.

Hi, just posting my results, in case anyone else hits these problems. Was trying to root an LG Volt, android 4.4.2. Sprint device. software build v5.
I tried option option 1, to no avail. Option 2 was strange. I was first hitting an issue with Norton. Everytime I downloaded the file, norton would delete it immediately without any notification. Overrode that, and installed but nothing happened on my pc. Program doesn't show up anywhere, so I couldn't run it. Maybe norton was deleting that as well.
Anyway, moved on to option 3. This one looked like it was working. Had to manually restart the phone with the vol-up and inserting the usb cable. The program went to 90% and said something like "rooting phone" but froze up at that status. I gave it a good 30 minutes and then just shut the phone down. Restarted the phone and saw that SuperSU was installed already. Went to my root checker and it said I was rooted!!
So not sure what that last 10% was that needed to complete, but it seems to be working fine.
I didn't have to do anything else, all other functions are still working fine, so far.
Thanks everyone on this forum!

Thanks for sharing. First off, the first option is for zv3 only. It says as much right there. The other 2 are both the same, number 2 just has a nice GUI. Odds are Norton was blocking it. (Get rid of Norton, it's crap. AVG Free is my personal choice)

As for the not completing, it did that on me too, which I mentioned. All it's doing is installing the su binary and SuperSU app. Not sure why it trends to get stuck at the end, but you should be good. :)

Sorry, my first time rooting, so I by the time I finished, I knew alot more than when I started. I probably didn't know what zv3 was at first. Still not sure what those versions are vs the android version. I see my volt is notifying me that it's ready to update to v6 now, but I'm not sure if I should take it. Don't want it to break anything like tethering.
As for AVG, I used it a few years back and it was slowing down my whole computer. Probably is not as bad now, but I didn't keep it long.
Thanks!

The Android version is KitKat 4.4.2. zv3,4,5,6 is the LG firmware version. If you update you'll have to redo everything, but everything will still work. However, now that you're rooted, you can just install a custom recovery and install a zv6 ROM (or we have a few lollipop ROMs, if you don't mind a few things being broken). The only thing really changed with zv6 is a stagefright patch.

Says it found a virus. I have used 3 different browsers.
Weird... Downloaded just fine for me using Firefox and Chrome. What antivirus are you using? I suspect it's not the browser that's giving you a problem, it's your antivirus. Still, there's no reason for anything to be finding anything.

I was seeing that also with Norton, but it seems to be fine. I should have taken a screenshot or noted the name of the virus that it was claiming to have found.
Thanks bg4m3r for your help!
BTW, I didn't update to v6 yet, but I might update the rom later. Just playing with it for now.

Thanks to bg4m3r for this extremely helpful thread. I used it to get TWRP on my Volt which had been on rooted V6 but without a custom recovery. My Volt is less than a week old and I had just started setting it up, but all of a sudden I started getting boot loops and spontaneous restarts. A battery pull solved the boot lops, but I thought I had better start looking for a way to put on CWM or TWRP so I could make backups. Then I found this thread. I believe but can't confirm that Link2SD was the cause of the boot loops and other instability.

After doing a factory reset I had to reroot and this time I used DP Tools instead of the bat script method I used initially. DP Tools worked without a hitch, and I didn't need to set any COM ports on my PC or anything like that. The thing is that it was so fast and said "waiting for your device" or something similar at the end that I didn't know if it had finished or not! When I checked my Volt, though, it said it was rooted in red on the screen and a check after confirmed that.

Again, thanks to the OP and all others who contributed to this thread. Making these mods sure helps to get a lot more out of these smartphones than one would think possible.
