Root [GUIDE] Change the CARRIER text

still not poping up then again there wasn't any txt there to begain with maybe cuz it was remove ? i'm using broken out 1.1 ldk ick broken out..

then again no big deal tks anyway :p

Edit the file on your pc. Copy and paste into the data folder which is on the main screen of your folder options. Where you would choose system, sys, mnt, android etc... Data folder is there from which shouldn't already have this file in it. Paste it. That's it.

worked for me! I used dropbox to get the files to my phone and then ROM Toolbox root manager to get the eri.xml to the right place. I changed my text to GTOgirl1969 because it's the name I use on most sites I go to.

Hell yeah. Did you try the lock screen edit too? Give it a shot. Little more difficult but you can handle it :D

I just put a blank space (one space) inside of the quotation marks instead of using text, and not only did it remove MetroPCS from the pull down bar, it also got rid of it on the lockscreen. Awesome. So now both my pulldown bar and lockscreen are blank and completely void of MetroPCS...plus I already got rid of the MetroPCS start up screen from my phone, so it's basically impossible to know my phone is from Metro. Cheers. :D

Excellent! I simply plugged my text into your example and saved a copy of it with notepad on my windows 7 pc as "eri.xml" I then used mass storage mode so i could drop the xml file onto my SD card....then used Root Browser to access the Data folder. Also the lock screen text changed as well. Good Job fine sir!

I read on xda forums that this trick is supposed to work on any Gingerbread phone..so not sure why it wouldn't work on the Admire

This Guide will show those who would like to and still have the Carrier text on the pull down notification bar where usually our service provider's name is (MetroPCS) how to change it.

-Download and unzip the eri.zip.(http://dl.dropbox.com/u/51753039/eri.zip)
-Open the eri.xml with Notepad++ (Notepad++ Home)
-Ctrl + f your text here.
-Replace all three with your text. Make sure all three of you texts are EXACTLY the same and do not use any symbols.
-Save and Exit
-Push the eri.xml inside /data/
-Reboot and done.

This is what it could look like

Would you like to learn how to change text that shows on your lock screen? By popular demand i will release a "small" guide showing how to do this as well.
works well in LGconnect + LG Esteem thank you very much....(*_*)

Is there a way to get rid of that bar altogether?

-Thanks.

This is cool.

or..

You can use Broken Out 1.1 by mtmichaelson and get rid of that bar altogether. It's so much better without anything there since it gives more room for notifications. I have Juice Defender and SetCPU profiles running all the time, so the extra real estate is great.

hey got a little piece of info you can add to the guide :D

if you edit the eri.xml to your liking, you can place it in a decompiled framework, recompile it and it will permanantly change the carrier text for you, so this way you dont lose it after a data wipe :D or if your making a custom rom
