That depends on if you were trying to use the LG esteem listed under your name... But seriously, you're gonna have to give us some more info than that. What did you do to the phone, where did you get the files, what kind of phone is it?

Thank you, it appears you fixed all my issues. I'm still adjusting and deciding what works for me, but with your help I have GPS and the latest version. I think going through and updating to the latest CTMod also helped me understand more about the different aspects of rooting.

I double-checked the KoumaMod settings before following your instructions and for some reason is was set to SSM (I thought I had followed the OP's guide exactly but either I messed up or something glitched). When I updated CTMod I did select data mode and checked the disable internal memory box (it was no longer the default).

1) For the GPS problem, there should be a toggle for it in the notification bar. If you have it turned on, and access google maps, it should start scanning. There may be three notifications asking for permission; allow them, starting with the bottom. That may be why it's broken. 2) Wish I had checked back in sooner...I deleted all my most recent TitaniumMod backups since I assumed it would be safest to not use them after the update. All I really lost was some Angry Birds Space progress, no big deal. And yes, I basically followed your guide again with the information from Lordvincent, at which point I noticed you had put more updates within it (I had only seen the added the warning at the beginning)

if titanium has a recent backup of angry birds you can use it to restore the data, one here or there won't mess anything up, just don't want to be using tb as your main backup and restore. also just make a cwm backup first too before doin and then can always restore back if a problem happens.
 
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post or not, but I'm having a bit of trouble and numerous searches trying to troubleshoot have come up empty. I just recently used this guide to root my Prevail, and everything was nice until I realized that whether it be stock messaging, GoSms, Handcent, or Chomp I simply canNOT send MMS. They show as sending, but never actually go through.

Does anyone else have this problem, or did I do something wrong? :confused:
 
Using a file explorer with su, navigate to /data/data/com.Android.providers.telephony/databases/ and delete telephony.db

Then reboot and try to send a mms
 
I still have rooted 2.2. Can I use odin to get rooted 2.3 or do I need to use odin to get stock 2.2, download the update from the phone, then root stock 2.3? Thanks.
 
FF19 is the newest.
it shouldn't ask you to update again (until the next update, lol)

And yes that is the download :)

Ack...More updates. Is this one working correctly yet? The Odin thread was saying root access was partially broken, but there hasn't been a post in a couple days. I'd hate to send people to update and break stuff.

You may be right. I just don't run the stock rom so i can't say for a fact either way. But if he had gone with anything else, the update nag would have started bugging him. I'm currently using the ff19 baseband with cm7 and loving it...

I believe kouma said there is an issue with superuser and it's binaries (our maybe something in the kernel). I'm not home for another week, so i can't confirm or deny. (no access to Odin/computer)

you can always test and get back to us, you are our guide master after all ;) lol
 
okie doke. phone is reflashed, sd card is repartitioned, and i'm a pretty happy camper. now, there are only maybe three issues i'm dealing with.


1. when rebooting (not when turning phone on after it's been off already), i get stuck on the koumakernel screen. when that happens, i boot into cwm and do a reboot from there and it works just dandy.

more or less, this is a minor inconvenience. but still.


2. frequently, google services framework will give me a force close, seemingly out of nowhere. i was told clearing gmail and other google app caches would fix this, but nada.


3. on the topic of force closings, i don't know if this is just a hidden process that being rooted makes seen or what, but when i end a call i get a 'com.android.phone' force close. not a big deal. however sometimes after that, if i try to call someone, it just.. doesn't do anything. and i have to reboot.

any suggestions would be seriously helpful. :confused:

I have done this process with my 4GB card and everything worked for the last month or more. I try to do the same process with the new class 10 32GB card, and as soon as I click 'data' mode and 'disable internal memory' and reboot, the phone hangs at the kouma splash screen on reboot.

I've waited hours at this screen, re-rooted, went back to stock, re-rooted many many times. I've changed the partition sizes to all options. Every time I get to this point and click 'data' and reboot (with disable internal memory checked) it will hang at that screen on reboot.

thoughts?

I had the same happen to me...... exactly the same...... Here is what I did :

After doing the base FE16 with Odin, I updated CWM with Odin and "one package" with this file : CWM5027-SPH-M8200-FOR-ODIN-FIXED2A.tar, then I installed in Clockwork via "install ZIP from SD" the file : stick.zip, booted back into CWM and installed SPH-M820-CWM-5027-UPDT-FIXED2A.zip ( if you already cerated a sd-ext patrtition continue, if not, create it here ) and had the phone fully boot up... Shut down again, booted into CWM again and run the "APKInstaller-Prevail.zip" in which I put the latest Koumamod1_7.apk..... ( in this app, there is no more the option 'disable internal memory') !!! After that install, I booted up and selected "DATA" in Koumamod, booted into CWM and formatted the SD-ext, booted up and all was good !!!!

Hope this will work for you as well........

Rooted my Prevail yesterday having only one-click rooted on past phones.

The things I like are:
-Translucency of Notification Panel and various windows
- MIUI style apps (Gallery, Music and File Explorer)
- Beautiful toggles

The things I don't like are:
- Ugly lockscreen
- Ugly progress bars
- Ugly bootscreen
- Cluttered power menu
- Battery discharges quicker than stock (On low-end phones, I tend to root for power efficiency over style/functionality)
- Loss of Swype (Swype is wonderful on tiny screens)

My previous phone was a 4.3" Windows Mobile device called the HTC HD2 which had CyanogenMod 7 on it. The bootscreen was beautiful and iconic, the power menu was enhanced but uncluttered, and mismatching fonts did not plague the lock or boot screens. Since this was my first time flashing and CTMod happened to be the stickied thread, I am stuck with this one until I have time to read about how to flash CyanogenMod, which left me with an impression it was designed by professionals, or amateurs that could be hired by Google.

Flashing Cyanogenmod is mostly the same as flashing CTmod. I went with CTmod because it's a little easier for new people to get the hang of (myself included), and there were a few little niggling bugs in CM7.

Swype beta is available direct from their website, and IMO its more better than the stock swype. You have to sign up at Swype | Text Input for Screens

As for power use, i'll go with my usual speech; Check settings/ about phone/ battery use, and it will tell you what is using battery the most. Also check out JuiceDefender, it shuts off the various radios when you don't need them, and saves a lot of power.

Just restating the obvious; make sure that changing to /data mode is the very first thing you do upon rebooting the first time, don't attempt to install anything whatsoever. also, if koumamod is set to ssm before you change it to data (like on some older versions of CTmod), you will have to wipe the SD-ext. Basically, if anything is on SD-ext when the kernel tries to make it data, it will fail.

Theres a way to wipe SD-ext only that is listed in koumakernels thread, but what you could try in a pinch is set to /data, boot to clockworkmod (instead of rebooting normally) and repartition from there. that way, the SD card is completely clean on its initial boot

Finally, there's the possibility that your SD card simply wont work. It's happened before.
