[Guide] Root/ROM FAQ/Tutorial (for 1.5)

well I ran the auto rooter, got to the black & green menu, created a nandroid backup, & rebooted successfully

I thought I was supposed to lose all of my contacts after I rooted though?

I was able to download, install, and use shootme, and from what I read that alone means I'm rooted

Is there another way to check?, I was so nervous to do this, and the fact that it seems to have gone through so smoothly & quickly has me paranoid now lol

You should be good to go. If you reboot into recovery and have the create nandroid, wipe, restore, etc, you should be rooted.

You won't loose contacts as long as they are tied to your google account :)

lol.. kinda like walking along and you tripped and BAM.. you rooted the phone huh?

Well yeah, it certainly felt that way. I was just trying to flash the recovery image and bam! it worked (I heard my phone vibrate and I thought I had received a txt msg but it was that the phone restarted and then the black screen w/ green letters appeared and I was like.. oh shit lol).

I never did.. ran Fresh 1.1 with the Gumbo kernel and setcpu for a while.. it was fast..battery life was good..

then I changed to Fresh 2.0d.. no need to even think about going back to 1.1

I have Fresh 2.0d just hanging out on my sdcard whenever I decide I wanna make that jump to 2.1 ROM. Do you have any complaints about 2.0d?

I have had no problems with Fresh 1.1 or with 2.0d. I have been running 2.0d for a while now with no issues :).

my only complaint for 2.0d is... why did I wait so long before flashing it :D

seriously.. for me it works.. and it works all the time.. after running 2.1 for a little over a week... there's no way I'll be going back.

I made the jump yesterday on impulse. My only complaint is that my phone still sucks in terms of battery life. I've tried that fix from XDA where you change the GSM Auto network to CDMA Auto so that should decrease cell standby but it's not doing much of anything to preserve batt life lol.

have you configured autokiller? if not, do it.. I set mine to aggressive.. works great for me.. also make sure you DO NOT have setcpu or overclock installed.. and make sure you reboot..

I have Autokiller set up on moderate. Do you recommend using aggressive?

I switch between Optimum and Aggressive. Lately, I've been keeping it on Optimum.

As far as radios, to be honest, I have never flashed an upgraded radio yet. I have good battery life and good signal so in my mind, no real need for me.

Some people have reported better battery life after flashing it, so it might help you. Just make sure you always flash the correct one as an incorrect radio flash will brick your phone.

I don't really feel like I need to flash an upgraded radio. My signal is terrific everywhere (especially at home now that I have the Airave). I'm just looking to get the minimum of 10 hrs out of my battery. I don't think that's too hard to ask for lol

How many hours are you getting?

How often do you have facebook, email, weather, etc syncing/updating?

Are you using live wallpapers?

Are you making sure when you go to exit an app you are using the back button to completely exit out instead of just hitting the home button?

These are a few things that could be affecting your battery life.

I don't use the Facebook app, it's terrible. Email syncs every 2 hours. Weather, I dunno how often it updates. I do back all the way out instead of using the HOME button. Do not use live wallpapers at all. My battery charged full around 8 PM last night and by 11 PM it was almost halfway already.

I guess by that logic I'm getting about 6.5-7 hrs on a fully charged battery

If I understand correctly (unless it was a typo) you are saying you were down to 50% wihin 3 hrs (8pm - 11pm)? If that is the case, you have something else going on.

First, go into settings>about and tell us what your up time/awake time is.

Download Spare Parts if you don't have it already. Once you have it installed, go through a normal day, then report back. Change settings in Spare Parts to show Partial wake Time and let us know what shows up.

It sounds to me like either an app is keeping your phone awake, or you are always searching for signal (which I'm doubting as you stated you get good coverage).

also go to menu>settings>about phone>battery>battery use>cell standby what is your Time Without Signal. you can also check what it using a lot of battery in the battery use menu.

Time without signal is at 0% and Cell standby at 42% - it's gone down a bit since this morning b/c earlier it was hovering around 49%

EDIT: As of right now, my up time: 1:56:56 and awake time: 48:20

I will do exactly that. Thanks.
