This is a bit vague. We need more details then "This didn't work" in order to help you. What didn't work for you. What step are you on? Take us through what you have done, try and post screen shots or any errors, etc. The more details you give, the more you help us to help you.

I believe these are the commands:

Code:
adb remount
adb shell rm -rf /system/sd/dalvik-cache

I had the same problem.

Open command prompt and connect your phone(make sure usb debug is on)

Use this to go to the sdk directory
Code:
cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
Use this to start the adb shell
Code:
adb shell
Use this command to reboot your phone into recovery mode
Code:
reboot recovery
Wait for your phone to fully boot into the recovery menu!

and this command does the wipe
Code:
wipe dalvik
This is all in the command prompt on your computer. I hope that helps, it is how I did it and my install was successful.

Someone may want to add this to the rom tutorial, it might helps some other folks.

Edit: ha, beaten to it. His is much simpler too :)

I flashed 2.0 and went well (except for wiping davlik but ccapasso said it may have occurred despite the error message) except SU request black screen so I decided to reflash but I was getting the same error message when trying to wipe davlik-cache

I tried both of the above (from command prompt) but wasn't sure what the letters before the first line of code offered by ccapasso. I tried the second as well and it said it wasn't recognized as an internal or external...

If some could help me that would be great.

In your post #726 you wrote that your SD card was mounted. The SD card should be unmounted. Secondly, double-check that USB debugging is on, and leave it on. Try again and let us know.

debugging on, usb connection type is charge only. I opened command prompt and wrote (copied) this
c:\android-sdk-windows\tools
adb remount
adb shell rm -rf /system/sd/dalvik-cache
***prompt read "rm failed for -rf, Read-only file system

So I tried the writing "wipe dalvik" like the second post had once the phone was in recovery screen but still not working.

Any ideas?

You said all went well... I t was flashed and running? If so and the su black screen was the only prob, then my guess was that usb debugging was NOT on. That is usually the problem with the black su screen.

It was working fine but with a few apps (tether wireless, navigation) it would always come up with SU request. I ensured that debug was on but SU request frequency didn't change.

When you were doing the initial setup, you clicked always allow, correct? That could have been the issue.....

Do you have the SDK installed? If you are copying and pasting, then yes, you obviously hit enter after each command.....

I have it installed properly i believe, i unzipped asroot2 an put rec image to tools inside sdk, when i enter first cimand an hit enter it sais path not found, the sdk is tittled android-sdk_r05-windows, i just downloaded it from the link given, wth :-( why can it not find tge path

Actually, bare with me im a mechanic so i have a technical brain but this is new to me, i think the problem is i didnt do sdk setup, so i guess no, i didnt install it right sorry, if i do setup it sais run, i hit run then it sais failed to fetch url, so i see thats what was happening, feel behind the basics here, still dont know why the hell it wont install the sdk though...

so i'm trying to root my phone for the first time using the latest fresh kitchen..and when i run the tests it says remount has failed because it isn't rooted or i'm running a rom that doesn't support it..do i really need remount to root my phone? because it's saying that remount failed cause i'm not rooted and i'm trying to root my phone. can someone help me please?

No no no no no.....You didn't read correctly and carefully. Your very first mistake is the sdk. Look carefully at what it says. You extracted the sdk, but the folder name isn't correct. I'm willing to be that if you look in your android-sdk_r05-windows folder you will see a folder called android-sdk-windows. If you read carefully you will see that is the folder that should be placed on your c drive.

Are you by any chance running the leaked 2.1 RUU ?

This might explain it....Otherwise, if you are having issues, just do it manually. You may spend a lot of time trying to get the kitchen to work. All that time could be spent just doing it manually, and it would be quicker.

Ccapasso, thanks, i was playin withit lastnight an figure the comand said android-sdk-windows, so i figured that part out, still cant find path after comand though, when i open comand screen it sais,"documents and settings/administrator. Then i enter comands, still no path, i even put the sdk, the correct one as you stated, in a folder on c drive called documents an settings/administrator, im really irratated i cant figure out how to get the right path cuz it looks right, an as an auto mechanic i spend alotta time figuring things out. Really just wana get this licked :-(

So im hacin a tough time but i misses the simple step of placing sdk on c drive, i was tryin to putit in c drive inside a folder...my bad, i got to step 13 comand, adb push recovery-ra-heroc-v1.t.w.img /sdcard, it tells me permission denied, the tutorial sais im rooted at this point, can i disconect an leave my current shell an have root access?cuz really i just want the root access for tweaks not to change my interface/shell, if not any ideas why permission denied:-(

Your permission denied was likely due to either your SD card being mounted or USB Debugging not being enabled. You do not have to flash the Recovery image, but without it you Will NOT be able to make a nandroid backup. I would suggest trying again. Make sure, as it says.........that your SD card is not mounted and that USB debugging is enabled....

Thank iv been waitin for a reply, originaly i had sd unmounted, so i tried mounted, still didnt work, i keep checkin debuging to make sure, it is checked on, ill try unmpulounting sd again an see if i have any luck, thanks

That worked thanks bro, now that iv done it would take me 15 min..haha, apreciate ur help, i did on a second hero i have, im gonna activate it an check it out, do you have any suggestions for a good rom, somethin with live wallpapers thats not buggy? Thanks again for the help

Ok. I have been worried like all others out there about rooting. But following the directions and searching a few errors, it all went perfectly well.

FYI - I had errors trying to wipe the Dalvik, but rooting worked without having that go thru. Great FAQ and tutorial! Thanks all!

i am not running leaked 2.1 RUU.

i'm totally new to this whole rooting thing so i wouldn't be comfortable doing it manually. i would just rather root it automatically with the kitchen.

Try installing PDAnet. This will give you correct drivers. Then run kitchen again and see if that helps.
