[Guide] Root/ROM FAQ/Tutorial (for 1.5)

my google navigation isn't working properly so i think i'm just going to reinstall the 2.0d rom again..if i do that do i just flash it again like a normal rom or do i have to delete the extra add ins i put in [[lwp and vanilla lockscreen]] and then reflash it.

Don't know why your google Nav isn't working. If you choose to flash a different ROM though, it is always good practice to wipe data/dalvik before flashing. You don't have to uninstall the apps you put it, they will go away once you wipe data anyways.

Yes, I understand that. But if you click the link for the post by ccapasso (and his quote of mysticmead) then you see where they mentioned Fresh Toast 2.1 and OC. Both agreed OC was not worth it.

I understand what you are saying now. I think you misunderstood what I meant though. While OC isn't worth it sometimes, in this case, if you are using FreshToast 2.x You Must use either the OC Widget or the SetCPU. From what I've read, Flipz recommends OC Widget. If you do not use either of those, the CPU scaling will not work properly.

If you don't want OC, then you are best to stick with fresh 2.1.1.

OK, I reinstalled OC widget. I was confused by what you and mysticmead were saying, but the translation seemed like OC was really more of a detriment. Since I didn't get around to flashing Fresh 2.1.1 before Fresh Toast 2.1 was released, I just went from Fresh 2.0d to Fresh Toast 2.1. The accelerometer doesn't seem as snappy as it was with Fresh 2.0d, but I am still settling into the ROM, trying out apps and uninstalling them (because of the huge memory gain), and have not had a complete cycle of 3-4 days of just regular use without me fiddling with things. So the accelerometer or anything else may be my mistaken impression.

There is so much info on this site, a search sometimes makes it very difficult to find what you are looking for...

Being a new member of the Root Club, so much of this is very foreign to me so far. I am sure it will become easier with experience!.

Debating what to do next. I tested the waters and deleted some of the Sprint Bloatware from my 1.5. Had a few issues, but with help from Kelmar, I was able to do it. THANKS! OK...

But I realy am interested in installing one of the 2.1 ROMs. Fresh 2.1.1, DC 2.08.1, or even the latest "keep root" 2.1 leak that Damage put together. I have a nandroid backup on my SD card and computer. If I flash one of the above ROMS, can I still go back FULLY to 1.5 if I need to from the nandroid? My concern is apparently Bluetooth is not working well in 2.1 for some. I have it working as I need it to with my car in 1.5. I am willing to test 2.1 if I can go back with all settings restored and everything the way it was in 1.5 if I need to.

What is the best way to back up what I have now on 1.5 for use in 2.1? Apps data and settings. I understand contacts will be fine as they are Google contacts. I dl'd Titanium, but get errors...

Thanks for the help, with a little time playing with this, I will also be able to offer help to others here.

Are you rooted?

Yes unless I did something that would mess that up. Every time I hold the home button and the red send button it goes to the same rom I installed two week ago. Not sure why I can't get back the the recovery page and not the clearstorage page ? What am doing wrong

What rom did you install 2 weeks ago? the unofficial leaked rom?

Aloysius 2.0.8 2.1 update rom . The reason this all started was today I got the same message over and over Data Call Failure error code 67. Can was unable to fix it so I thought I would just wipe it and start over with a new rom but now I can't get pass the same white page

could I have some way un rooted my phone today ?

I just got the same thing. Was weird. I used fresh kitchen and booted right into recovery. Do you have kitchen installed? You could try it if you need to get to recovery...

not yet but im about to

When you get it installed, there is a tab at the top for tools. click it and there are a bunch of options. reboot recovery is one. try it out, it should work. I don't know what that other screen was... I have never seen it before....

after I send it to my phone what is the next step? do I power it off then hold the send and the home button then go from there?

Fresh kitchen is an application that you install on your computer.....NOT your phone.......Please take the time to read and research....

Hey there, cc. What is the screen he is talking about, and what causes it to show when trying to reboot to recovery?

If you are trying to get into recovery and are having problems here is a way that I do that always works.

Make sure you have the sdk installed (if you don't know about this, refer to this guide).

Open a command prompt, and cd to android-sdk-windows/tools directory.

Once there do the following commands

adb remount
adb shell
reboot recovery

I'm not 100% sure what it is, but I know others have seen it. I would imagine he was rooted before, as he was able to flash a ROM, which I assume he was able to get into recovery before to do this.

Do you happen to know what version of RA you flashed?

I only ask, because it just happened to me. I was able to boot into recovery with the kitchen, though. I have never seen or heard of it before...

And I know you weren't asking me, but i have 1.6.2 flashed
